I can only say for sure I saw The Deep and The Rescuers that summer.

The Car is a cool movie. Worth watching.

Yeah, I’d be interested to see that. Also I have The Deep poster which is cool, so it has me intrigued. Had The Car poster too, actually, but not anymore.

‘Star Wars’ Franchise Crosses $4 Billion, Eclipsing Disney’s Lucasfilm Price’…

^ plus a bit more on other acquisitions under Iger

After a few rocky years, Disney proves yet again that is no dummy.

Even if the three films were prequel quality movies, they’d still be turning profit this year. SW is like printing money. If I was a billionare, buying LFL would be a no-brainer for 4 billion when blockbusters are making a billion anyways.

I suppose where I’m at with it is this: People saying things need to be mature and sensitive of others; and people hearing things need to be mature and not overreact.

The arguments people make about offensive conversation seem to gravitate toward one side or the other, when I think both are exactly equally important. On the one side people accuse the offended as “snowflakes”, and on the other side people accuse the offensive as racist, whatever-negative-stereotype.

I think the important thing is to be mature about things, whether speaking or listening in equal measure. And that doesn’t mean people have to watch everything they say, but that they can also diffuse a tense moment quickly and easily when it happens by being civil and mature.

A: "[unknowningly offensive word]"
B: "Please don’t use that word. It’s offensive to me."
A: “Oh. Okay, I’m sorry.”

I’m guilty of over-reacting here as well. And, for me at least, it’s because for a long time, it was nearly impossible to get the moderation to do anything unless a post was really over the top vile (like the guy who posted 100 anime dicks). So things naturally escalated, and we would all just basically act like bigger and bigger (anime) dicks toward each other. Walking away was probably the right thing to do. But with little moderation in place, walking away might have felt more like just handing over the thread to people who are in the wrong. Frink may have felt that way at times, and I certainly think people have thought it when they’ve stood up to Frink at times when he hijacked threads.

I quite agree. If you’re here, you’re probably of the argumentative type, which means that it might be hard to let your arguments go. I’ve felt that many times before. You hold on to your arguments like children.

I’m just tired of that. Just tired. It doesn’t matter who posts their opinion about anything, there’s always someone whining about it and needing to have the last word. It’s become so tiresome that it’s better to just keep your opinions to yourself if you don’t want the bully squad on your ass.

What feels most Star Wars
Time

If only the original, original trilogy is “Star Wars”, what else does feel most Star Wars to you? It can be other movies in the series or not, and it doesn’t have to be your favorite SW thing (for example a worse game can have a better SW feeling than TLJ but you can enjoy the film more). I also don’t mean any objects, like a toy or a lightsaber, but something that tells a story in one way or another. It can be even one picture. Only what captures most just the feeling for you. Canon or EU, if you’re in to those definitions. Name your top 5 or 10 or whatever. Could be fun to see, maybe we can learn what do people expect from any SW material.

Mine are:

X-Wing game series (X-Wing, TIE Fighter, X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter, X-Wing Alliance)
Knights of the Old Republic game
Al Williamson’s comics
Ralph McQuarrie’s artwork
and I’d like to say one of the Jedi Knight game sequels but it’s been a long time since I played them…

As it is now we’re faced with a much more obvious inconsistency than the often criticized inconsistencies Lucas introduced with the PT, and a seemingly overpowered and perfect heroine, who pulls deus ex machinas out of her hat like a great magician.

I’ll be interested in seeing her build a new lightsaber when she doesn’t know anything about the Force except those three lessons. But probably that will be an easy task, too. (being snarky)

So, did I get that right? You get the Blu-ray for free if you buy the 4K version?

I don’t think I’ve seen a 4K release without a BD. Which is why my most recent buy that was Wonder Woman, I bought in 4K even though I don’t have a player yet. Unfortunately those discs cost 50% more new and don’t come on sale almost ever that I’ve seen, while you can get BDs for 5-10 euros 6 months after their release.

Ranking the Star Wars films

Hating a movie for being too fun is such a strange idea. I sure as hell would rather Star Wars resemble the Marvel movies than the joyless DC ones.

Being fun and being funny are separate things. Also making jokes doesn’t necessary mean they’re funny. Now, this may be controversial to say since I and everyone else liked Luke in TLJ: I don’t remember Luke making a single joke in the whole trilogy and now he’s making them up left and right. Now, I love both Luke and Mark, but I think you can see more Mark in this portrayal than Luke, and we have just forgotten since for us they’re the same. But I can put it on his older age and solitude that he may have gotten a little eccentric and loose kind of like Yoda.

Also, I’d rather have Star Wars resemble Star Wars movies, not ANY comic book movies.

It burns the old Jedi texts for crying out loud, as a statement that the ancient history of the Jedi is boring.

That really pissed me off as a message the film gives at that point. “History is boring, let’s burn it for a few laughs.” And coming from Yoda it didn’t suit at all. I get the idea what it was trying to make which is let’s begin with a clean slate, but you should never turn your back on history. It always teaches something. That’s like burning constitutional laws or something.

Did someone actually say ‘Godspeed’ in a SW film?

Ha ha. Stuck out like a sore thumb. “May The Force Be With You” is what it’s supposed to be, isn’t it? 😉

I don’t remember that but they also they said “cops” which took me out of the movie, too. Well, the whole casino scene did with all the slot machines, champagne etc.

I don’t have a problem with people who like the film, I just don’t like being preached to as to why I should. I haven’t criticized anyone for liking the film. I don’t appreciate being attacked for not liking it.

So true! But that happens a lot on here. Lots of people have been banned doing what Dom is doing! But only if they don’t like the same movies as the mods!

Get used to it. There are some people who only see their own opinions and don’t appreciate others. I like to read other members’ opinions wheather they like a movie or not, both can have good points and I don’t have to reply on every single post I see if I disagree with. Unfortunately this has lowered to prequel-level where all valid criticism will be argued against similar to “but Hayden was meant to be annoying!” etc. Ugh.

Even though I don’t like all choices the film-makers have made on this or TFA or whatever, it doesn’t mean I hate these or people who enjoy them thoroughly. But I do hate when they are trying to force-feed their points like there can’t be another opinions or that others “are not capable of understanding”. That’s just some high level BS, people can understand and still have criticism about it.

Anyways, I also need to see this again. But the more time goes on, it does feel less and less SW… I mean, if you watch SW and then TLJ, they are from a different universe as films. Or ROTJ and TLJ, same thing. There is a massive gap in many ways. Some think it’s good, some don’t… It needs to be digested a little more for me.

Hey guys, what was this dices-keychain thing? Have we ever seen it somewhere?

It’s been in the Millennium Falcon since ANH. Though it is somewhat of an obscure reference. This is the first time they’ve been shown in any detail (movie-wise anyway.

Actually they were only in one two-second scene when Chewie’s head hits them in SW but they were never seen again until now.

So, should I wait for a few days before posting my thoughts on the movie? Or is a spoiler warning enough?

Go for it mate - the film has been released to the general public - it is fair game.

In 8-and-a-bit hours I’ll have seen it myself 😃

OK. I’ll start without spoilers, then give a warning, start with light spoilers and work my way down to the big ones.

I’m kind of conflicted about the film. For now at least. Maybe I’ll change my opinion after a second viewing (I usually do).

Many parts of the film was amazing, others just felt weird. The Luke stuff I absolutely loved, but a lot of the Finn scenes felt really weird, and so did a lot of the First Order and Resistance stuff.

The humour was a mixed bag for me. Some was great, some if it felt a bit too cartoonish.

I also feel that it overdid the CGI a lot. RO has so far been the most balanced film VFX-vise. For such a character-based film, TLJ went a bit too big with the effects.

SPOILERS FROM NOW ON!

Canto Bight was a bit disappointing. Cool idea with much potential, but it didn’t really work that well within this plot. It really should have been reserved for a RO- or SOLO-type film

Admiral Holdo was pretty interesting, but the whole thing about the cruiser being out of firing range was pretty weird. I didn’t think much about while watching the film, but on the way home my brother pointed out how much of a plot hole it really was. Why didn’t Hux just send out TIE fighters? They’re much faster and would have decimated the ship in short time.

Yoda scene was great. I loved it. It was funny and emotional. And I was so glad they did him as a puppet again. Probably my favourite scene.

BIG SPOILERS!

Rey’s parents are nobody important. Maybe it’s petty of me to enjoy the thought that all those stupid fan theories will fall apart, but I did. It also works better in terms if Rey’s development. I’m very pleased with this development.

Snoke’s death came as a huge surprise. I enjoyed the scene overall, but it still bugs me. Who is he? Where did he come from? This isn’t that important, but the OT never did anything like this. Yes, there’s the EU to explain these things, but it seems kinds weird to me.

Also surprised that there were no Knights of Ren what so ever.

Leia’s force self-rescue scene. I honestly can’t tell if it was brilliant or idiotic.

Luke’s force projection was, to me, a wish come true. I’ve wanted to see this in a SW film for soon long. I wonder if Rian Johnson has read Dark Empire, as a lot of TLJ reminded me of it.

Not too sure what to think about Luke becoming one with the Force. It was unexpected, but I think it worked.

Speaking of Dark Empire, I’m glad they borrowed from DE 1, not too sure about the DE 2-style ending. The entire Resistance was literally reduced to like 20 people.

SPOILERS OVER!

I definitely liked it more than TFA, but until I’ve seen it again I can’t call it a “masterpiece” like so many others has. For now RO is still my favourite new SW film.

Pretty much agree. It was better than TFA, it had actual surprises, I liked Rey a lot more, Poe a little more, Luke was awesome… Music was great I think, Chewie sounded more like Chewie and not just Chewie Soundboard. Finn stuff were like pasted on to the story, Rose character was just a weird and useless addition and I didn’t like it at all. The casino scene was cringe-worthy to me. Leia stuff were great too, except like you said, that space flying… that was super weird. Etc. etc., you pretty much covered it.
