I didn't think the Star Wars Holiday Special was THAAAAT BADDDD...
Time

When the Holiday Special isn't boring, it's so bad that it's good.  If I could measure the number of laughs and good times I've had with my friends watching it on bad movie nights, It would easily blow the PT away.  I definitely find myself in the mood to watch it more frequently than any of the movies in the PT.

!

I never thought about it until I wrote it down just now, but I think that probably means I like the Holiday Special more than the PT.  :o

At this point, I could care less. If Abrams fucks the ST up, I can choose to ignore it, just like I ignore the PT, the SE, and the parts of the EU I don't like. Things would go on as they were before.

This.  It's terrible that it has come to this, but 16 years of pummeling me with terrible Star Wars movies has definitely led to a life of waiting six months after something Star Warsy comes out and seeing what the non-PT/SE fans say about it before committing to watching it.

The Fall of the Jedi Trilogy (Released)
Time

I wish I had time to gush.  I'll simply say that Fall of the Jedi is how I introduced my 5 year old son to the PT and are, in my opinion the definitive versions of these films.  I had a sneaking suspicion that there were some halfway decent movies inside the PT dying to get out.  Thank you for creating (yes, this was an act of creation,) prequels to the OT that are as good as the limited footage available to you would allow.  Inspired.

If George had only changed Special effects for the SE and DVD, would people have complained as much?
Time

I wonder how forgiving I would have been with the SE changes had GL not taken a big shit on SW with the PT.  Greedo Shooting first, the zany robots scene on the approach to Mos Eisley, Jabba turned into a cheap hood who can literally be walked on by drug smugglers, these are all pretty bad and turn the movie into things that I prefer to not watch.  But I don't feel like I would have cared as much... like I would still be carrying as much of a grudge about it, had those changes not been followed up with the PT.

In a theoretical world where there is no PT, GL not making the OOT available is still a huge problem, but I don't feel like I would feel this strongly going on 2 decades later.

Especially given the fact that in my mind, thanks to Harmy, the problem of OOT availability is no longer an issue.

Info Wanted: Best theatrical original trilogy fan preservations?
Time

There is so much in that last explanation that assumes a certain level of knowledge on my part, (MITM'ing on the wire, SSL encryption, NZB's, seeding,) that I feel like I just need to quit while I'm ahead and find a less hardcore place to learn this stuff.  Seriously, thanks for the answers.  If someone is willing to spend a little time and spell this all out for me step by step, please feel free to private message me.

Info Wanted: Best theatrical original trilogy fan preservations?
Time

Is anyone able to offer a step by step guide or to provide a link to a step by step guide for downloading either of these movies?  I'm very new to the concept of fan films and and want to become a collector, but torrent is totally alien to me.

If this is totally legal to do as long as I own a purchased copy of the ( alleged ) original, why can't I just click on a link and download the thing?  It seems excessive that I have to install something, learn how to operate within a community of, ( Torrenters?  Torrent people? ) make my computer available to other people, and whatever seeding is...  I know this post is probably causing a flurry of eyerolls out there, but I am seriously stuck. I  don't want to engage in risky behavior with the computer on which I earn my living.

Is there a reasonably safe way to get copies of these edits that doesn't amount to a game of Russian Roulette with my computer?  Is there a legal loophole which lets us just flat out buy a digital copy or something?

If my noobness about this annoys you, sorry about that.  If you are the kind of person that can help me, thanks in advance.  :)

I see Han as a criminal. At no time was he ever depicted as being anything other than that.  He wasn't going to college on the side to become a paralegal.  He wasn't hoping to one day become a writer.  He was a 30-40 year old man who smuggled drugs and other contraband.  I can totally see his character arc going in the same direction as, say, Jax on Sons of Anarchy, especially if the thing with Leia didn't work out.  By the time he is 70 (where he kind of would be if Ep VII is written to the actual actor's ages) Han might be a glitterstim kingpin or working for the much more entrepreneurial and driven Lando. Not because he hasn't matured or grown, but just because that is the life he knows.

Have you seen Toy Story 3? Or Little Miss Sunshine? Anrdt seems to be a great character writer, which may be just what the new SW needs.

I think Arndt is probably a very good writer, BUT, he worked very closely with George Lucas to develop the script .  He's not a miracle worker after all.

Star Wars has been a children's cartoon for decades.  Let the adults have a few hours for a change.

Well Star Wars always had both adult and children elements. There is a huge misconception among many fans who say the prequels were for the kids. The prequels had as much adult stuff as OT. The difference is that both adult and kids stuff in the prequels was bad/annoying.

I don't think it's a misconception necessarily.  It's my observation that it is a lie that the PT/GL apologists at TFN tell other people and themselves in order to stave off that sinking feeling they'll get, (that the rest of us felt in 1999) when they sit down on opening night for Ep VII and are schooled in what Star Wars is supposed to look like.

I don't see any relevance of rumours among kids. If it is not in the film it means nothing.

Certainly there is no evidence that might suggest Stormtroopers were clones. Actually there is strong evidence that they are not.

The "aren't you a little short for a stormtrooper" line always made me wonder if there was some kind of expectation of uniformity.  I too remember there being talk in the 80's that at least some of the stormtroopers were copies of copies of copies of clones... which is why they couldn't hit anything when they were shooting.  I think that originated with talk from he who shall not be named in that time period.

Yoda indicated that the force is between "me, you, the tree, the rock, everywhere"  ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMUKGTkiWik0h0m55s&t=0h0m54s ) Midichlorians are not in these places, yet, according to the older and wiser Yoda of ESB, that is where the force is located, not merely inside the cells of living organisms.  If I'm making assumptions about things that happened off screen, it's that Yoda figured out that Jedi Master Lucas was making shit up when he scienced up some bullshit explanation about how the force works.
