Mos Eisley is the biggest reason I prefer the Original Untouched Trilogy to the SEs.  What made ep. 4 so special was the lived in believability of the environments.  It came from the European comic books Lucas was into (he has a copy of the book Valerian in his office which is a great Heavy Metal-esqe comic).

The original Mos Eisley looks run down, not alot of people, and overall dumpy.  Its a very used looking Space Port.  The special edition version is populated with CG characters that our eyes know are completely unreal.  It takes us out of the scene and reality of the movie completely.

The dewback scene, which comes earlier, is similar.  The Dewbacks in the background of the OUT are not moving but our eyes can't make them out that well so it looks real.  The CG dewbacks are obviously animated so the reality of the situation is lost.

I agree this this wholeheartedly.  I feel the same way about Ben's hovel.  The  ranch house that he now seems to own in the SE is not in line with the dirty unwashed desert dweller's robes he is wearing when we first meet him.  The original hut reminds me of the dwellings you would find in spaghetti westerns of the 60's and is in every respect the dwelling in which I would expect to find a desert hermit.  Additionally, Ben is said to live at the edge of the dune sea, a geographic feature that is not visable in SE version, but is _definitively_ implied in the bleak, sandblasted windowless hut of the OOT.

Does everyone know about the very OT friendly podcast, "Far, Far Away" over at Geek Nation?

http://geeknation.com/podcast/far-far-away/

It's an actual professional and consistent podcast by one of the Schmoes Knows guys.  Editorially, they take the same view of the PT and SEs as most of the real life people that I know. I.E.  They happened, it's unfortunate that they happened, there no reason to let them ruin the OT.  No more having to sit through gushing at Force Cast or Rebel Force Radio to listen to pro broadcasters talk about Star Wars.

...With apologies to any of the dedicated professionals at either of those  podcasts that, besides the PT gushing, otherwise put on fine shows.

How would you all feel about the Disney sale and the ST if there was no EU, SE, or PT?

I would be majorly excited.  Imagine the possibility of new Star Wars _without_ the decades of GL and KJA, Et al. fucking ruining it!  I'd probably be a little more nervous about what they are going to do with it due to not already having witnessed the depths to which Star Wars can sink with GL helming, but I think it would still be an incredible event that I would be beside myself looking forward to.

Why are you bringing up either Nolan or Earth, neither of which have anything to do with Star Wars?

I was trying to say that a Star Wars movie that takes place in the same universe as te EU (what some are advocating) would be like a Batman movie that takes place in the same universe as the Batman comics.

 Ouch.  That would be terrible

What was the point of making everything look McQuarrie accurate if the animation is going to look this cheap and awkward?

I'm going to watch, but so far I've witnessed childish comedy, a Kyle Katarn clone, lightsabers, an alien in a position of power within the Empire, and heightened reality physics.  The "Might Suck" meter is creeping up...  I sincerely hope that it's just the marketing department trying to hook the people who grew up watching the fan fic version of Star Wars from the PT era.

Why didn't Han pay off Jabba in between ANH and ESB?

You should check out The Empire Strikes Back sometime. It's a pretty good movie. ; )

I've seen ESB. I just don't feel the need to memorize every line.

 Or remember plot points.

It was such a brief mention that you'd have to be thinking about while you watch the movie in order to notice it.

or just not be playing Flappy Bird while watching.

It's explained in the conversation between Han and Leia in the hallway scene in ESB that Han had decided to stay and help the rebellion. He'd be pretty hard for Jabba to find while running with such an organization. However, as is explained in said scene, a bounty hunter still managed to track Han down, changing his plans. So, as the rebels prepare to evacuate the Hoth base, Han and Chewie prepare a trip to deliver the money to Jabba. However, those plans get changed as well....

Same question same answer, 4 pages of whining about it at TFN...

What in the EU would you keep?

Nothing.   ...and because I consider the SE, TPM, AOTC, and ROTS badly executed fan edits/ films they would be out as well with ROTJ on probation.

That said, I will continue to treasure the Marvel Comics, the Archie Goodwin comic strip, the Daley Han Solos trilogy, the Lando Calrissian trilogy, the Thrawn Trilogy, the Infinity OT comics, The Star Wars comic, The radio dramatizations, The novelizations of the OT, and Splinter of the Mind's Eye regardless of their status.

Just for clarification, and so that I know I wasn't hearing things... "Canon" is now the movies I-VI.  I'm further under the impression that everything else will be reviewed and determined to either be "canon" or "not canon"... and that there will no longer be levels of canon with the exception of the afore mentioned "canon" or "not canon".

Is that accurate?

Can Episode VII ignore the prequels?
Time

Here's what I would like to see.  I would like to see the characters talk about the clone wars and Anikan Skywalker as much as they want with the caveat that they refer to them in exactly the same way that they are referred to in Wars, Empire, and Jedi.  I have zero problem if what they say doesn't match up with what was said in the PT as long as it matches what was said in the OT.  As far as I'm concerned.  Jedi came out in 83, and now, 33 years later, we are finally getting another Star Wars movie.

Yes, I believe that they can and should ignore the prequels.

Hello, many of you may recognize my username form the now infamous topic "sick of star wars prequel bashing" and also "you prequel-lover-haters have no argument against the prequels".

I would just like to say that a lot of rude things were said in that thread, both by me and by other people, however I cannot remember who was the first one to be rude or what members, if any, deserved what I said to them. I would just like to apologize to anyone I was rude to who didn't deserve it.

Thankyou.

For what it's worth, it was kind of an awesome thread, and I didn't find it insulting, nor was I offended in the least.

It will be interesting to see whether people look at the prequels with a more forgiving eye based on what JJ did to the franchise, or if they will wish JJ had done the prequels.

For my own clarification:
If JJ makes a movie that blows, are you thinking that one of the possibilities is that people like the Red Letter Media guy will say to themselves, "I guess the PT wasn't that bad after all."?  I'm not trying to challenge your statement, I just want to make sure that's what you mean.
