SFX details you never knew were in the OT until you saw them on DVD?

That is the whole point of restoration in cinema.
You know, I've recently seen some Charlie Chaplin movies and shorts which have been restored, and on a way, I find that beautiful, the image is really good, and it's maybe nearest from the original version wanted by the director (I'm not talking of Chaplin on that point).
But, in another way, when you have seen the first version, you don't want to see changins in the image you loved.

Really appreciate or hate a restoration is pretty much hard to know...

obi wans name in ANH

For me, "Obi-Wan" has always been his real name, and "Ben" was only his "hiding-on-Tatooine" name. But it's just my point of view
I understand the fact that he's credited has Ben "Obi-Wan" Kenobi, but I though that it was done like that just cause, in the movie, we're on Luke's point of view, and the character himself is introduced (physical introduction, I mean) as "Ben".

Well, the first time I've seen it, I've had real difficulties to watch the whole thing too! And more than that, I'm french, I understand written english quite well, but spoken english, without subtitles, is more difficult. So, the wookies are always growling (at some moments, it's really unbearable!), and the few scenes with english (and with pretty bad sound quality), I've had difficulties to understand all...

But I like this show, precisely cause it's so bad and so stupid... A real TV homage!

Maybe Obi-Wan has intentionaly made that Luke knows his "Kenobi" name, cause one day, Luke would have to go look for him. And don't forget that Kenobi has the power to influence weak-minded. He can easily force someone to forget him or just his full name.

And as for many events in the Star Wars universe, the Force (sort of destiny) guides characters to their fates. That could (pretty much poorly) explain a lot of things...

Guardianship. Luke wasn't officially adopted, just taken in. If they'd adopted him, Luke would call them "Mom and Dad" instead of "Aunt Beru and Uncle Owen."

Right, Luke hasn't been *legally* adopted, but it's just cause he has to be hidden, and all that takes place in an outer rim territory, far from law and legality.
Luke doesn't call his "guardians" father and mother, and he's not called Luke Lars, but we can imagine that Owen and Beru has decided from the begining that they will not dissimulate to Luke that they aren't his true parents, even if they hide all the "anakin-to-vader" story...
Oooh, I'm starting to have a headache, suddenly...

Ok, but Tatooine is not known for his good registration of citizens. That's why so many persons who want to hide go to Tatooine. I'm not sure that all the imperial computers and datas can find a guy living alone in the desert of an outer rim planet...

For the "Ben" name, I find it has sense. You say that "it dosen't take too much brainpower to know that Ben Kenobi = Obi-Wan Kenobi". Yes, for us, cause "Kenobi" name seems "exotic" to us, but maybe it's a usual name in the Star Wars universe.
If you take "Connor" for example in the real life, how can you guess that "John Connor" and "James Connor" are the same person?
So, "Ben" was just a name for his hiding.

For Luke, I agree with "Yoda Is Your Father", and if we really want a explanation, I think that Leia has a different name, cause the Organa family is famous and has a political importance in the galaxy. Keep her real "Skywalker" name would be too risky...
For Luke, he lives now in a outer rim territory, far from Coruscant and all the political plot of the galaxy. And as for Obi-Wan, "Skywalker" is surely a usual name in the Star Wars galaxy.
After all, there are 3 years between ANH and ESB, and Vader understands that Luke is his son only in ESB, and Luke seems to be famous in the galaxy since he's destroyed the first Death Star.
Again, "Skywalker", in the SW universe, is maybe as usual as "Ford" in our real world.

Now it looks really great, good job!
And thanks to have took my suggestion BTW, it's good to see people who accept suggestions and remarks.

BTW, I guess you have the THX Demo DVD, is it available somewhere?

yeah, i have it, it's a nice little disc, the musical montage with scenes from indy and the original star wars cuts is great.

it's still available over at torrentspy with strong seeders.

Thanks for the tip, I'm downloading it right there (even if I don't have any THX installation...)!

Laserschwert, your covers are awesome! Really great job!
Where can we have them in full-res?...

Time to grow up.

It's great to see the "Emperor Jay" coming here to calm down the kids!

But I think that personal attacks or not the only trouble here. Since few days, many members who don't like the SE and/or the PT claim endlessly that they hate Lucas, SE is shit and other similar stuff.
I respect the fact that some members really hate new SW stuff, but why do they say it EVERY day? And what is the point to have a "hardcore haters only" thread? I don't see the point of all that...

It really makes me crazy to come here to read the half of thread saying that "Lucas is evil", "PT is shit",... It seems that some of you are thinking that Lucas owe you something. But it's not right. You may not like all that have been made of course, but please be respectfull...

Yeah, I do the same thing, but the trouble is that you have the jedi starfighter only at the end of the level (or with the cheat codes!).

I find you all really hard with Adam.
I think he doesn't incite fights. It's just that he really likes the SE and the PT (stop me if I'm wrong Adam), and you all don't. Every single time he give his opinion on a thing he likes, a lot of members come to tell him to "shut up" and "the OOT is great, anything else is shit", "Lucas is evil", blablabla...

The real trouble is that a lot of members (not ALL the members, of course) are intolerant and pretty much rude, and are just "hardcore haters" (there's even a topic just on that! incredible!), and jump on every "new-SW-stuff" lover to kick his ass... Some of these guys maybe sould create another website for "Lucas hating" activities, I don't know...

All I want to say is: calm down.
I've already said it and I say it again, SW is just entertainment, don't take it too seriously please. Of course you don't have to LOVE all that has been done, but repeating endlessly that you hate Lucas, PT and SE is really too much... one time suffices...

To conclude in a Yoda style: "Respect everyone's opinion, you must..."

I must say that I really LOVE the "speeder bikes zooming"!
When I watch ROTJ, and in particular the speeder bike chase, I often go back with my remote just for hearing those sounds!

Some of the TPM Pod sounds are really awsome too. The race really worth the listening!
One other sound is really really cool in AOTC: Jango's charges in the asteroid field. The first time I've heard it, I was "...WOW!".

I also love the creatures sounds in the whole saga. Ben Burtt has really made a great job on that!

This is a very well thought out creation. The menus are some of the best I have seen, if not the best ones. One thing you might want to look into is for the character profiles you have green text on a drak green background and found that hard to read on my small tv (32inch). The artwork that is also included is GREAT. The video quality seems to be sub-par but I am sure that is just how the source is. Overall a really great production, I hope to see more releases by you!

Thanks a lot for these kind words, segaflip, and thanks for your contribution on a.b.starwars!

Concerning the text of the character profiles, I must say that it looked really readable in Photoshop, but you're right, it must be pretty diffcult on a TV, and the green is not the more stable colour in video... But I haven't noticed that on my TV cause I have a RGB cable between my DVD player and my TV, which "stabilizes" colours. But I'll keep that in mind for the next release!
About the video quality, you're right, the source is very similar to the final look in the DVD. Honestly, I've really done all that was possible to avoid loosing quality.

So, just now, I'm starting the next release: KJ002 - Star Wars: Bounty Hunter Cutscenes. More infos soon...

What species is Yoda anyway?
Time
Not knowing the exact specie of Yoda is one of the last unexplained mysteries, and I like it that way!
It's just too bad that they included a character of the same species in the Jedi Council of TPM, it blow a little bit the mystery... For info, this character is named Yaddle, it's a female character, and supposed to be much younger than Yoda... quite weird...

If he was taken in by other Mandalorians (?) like his father, or clonetroopers, he would've kept his accent. If Boba struck out on his own, the primary influence on his speech patterns would've been the media, which was probably dominated by the Core World accents like Coruscanti and Corellian. Although his Mandalorian accent might not have been lost entirely, it would have been attenuated, and he probably would've suppressed it when speaking to Core Worlders like Vader. I've heard that's what Morrison did when revoicing the OT, trying to blend the original Boba voice with his own.

... Yeah... but you know, Star Wars is just Space Opera... Boba = Jango's clone , so, Boba voice = Jango voice...
You know, when I'm watching Star Wars, I'm not wondering about all those scientist or rational explainations, and I think I'm right, cause when we see lightsabers and sound in space, well, we know that we're not watching an ultra-realistic sci-fi movie...

THE Most Awesome Scene in Star Wars
Time
I really really love all the Tatooine part of ANH (even the SE scenes).

I also love all the ESB duel between Vader and Luke! It's full of darkness, and I like that!...

And, just cause it was my favourite SW scene when I was kid - I was very impressed ! - it's the Rancor scene in ROTJ. The creature design is excellent, and it's surely one of the most scariest scenes in the saga!
