What you're reading now: EU style
Time
I'm actually reading "Planet of Twilight" (by Barbara Hambly).
I have some difficulties to read it, just cause I find it pretty boring... There are some good ideas, but the whole story is pretty confused and written pretty badly IMO.

Anyway, the next one for me will be one novel of the Rogue Squadron series, which I love. Good characters, good stories (for the most) and very well described space battles.

You know what? I've had it for few years at home!!
After my father did the website for a guy who was renting pinballs, that guy has lent us this pinball for a long time. Unfortunately, one day, the ball launcher (which was not manual, just a button) has burned, and we were force to give it back to the guy...
Anyway, I've played several times this pinball, and have very very good memories of it. Thanks to remember it to me!

Suggestion: OriginalTrilogy Ad to use on fan edits and preservations
Time

Hi there! 😃

I’ve just seen on Myspleen that someone has made a little ad for myspleen.net (just right there), and I was thinking that a good (animated) OriginalTrilogy ad could be really cool too, especially if we can put it at the begining of our DVDs (maybe in the same way as the TFN FanFilms ad?).

If it’s ok, anybody could be able to do it?

Ok, but there's one important thing you don't understand.
Star Wars is Lucas' creation, and for him, every new "enhanced" version is some sort of update, not an alternate version. From his point of view, it's normal that he doesn't want to release the O-OT on DVD.
But don't misunderstand me, I'd love to have the O-OT on an official DVD too!

And you're claiming that Lucas considers Star Wars a commercial product and "he fully depended on the commercial momentum the OT still had". If it was the case, don't you think that he would already have released every movie in several versions (I'm talking about DVDs)? From a purely commercial point of view, it would be very fructuous to release the original versions of the movies (including TPM and AOTC), as well as the "final" versions, and maybe the OT SE. In this case, many fans would have bough 2 or 3 different versions of the same movies -> pretty commercial, isn't it?

Idea: If I had produced the battle of Yavin...
Time
It's right. But at this point of the attack, the Rebels are forced to be in a position of weakness, they must approach the trenchs.
And, well, in that sort of movies, the credibility often leaves place to well known dramatical effects: even surounded, the heroes win. Many "good guys" die, but the real heroes are alive at the end... quite simple... (who said too simple?)

But finally, it's an interesting point. Maybe it would have been better to see more Rebel ships. Many of them have been added for the SE, but having hundred ships instead of few could have changed too much that part of the movie, I guess.

Well, I'm not sure of that.

Of course, he doesn't have the talent he had during the OT anymore (I'm just talking about his "talent" concerning SW, not future non-SW projects, we'll see for that...), and the magic that was in the OT doesn't work in the PT, ok.

But, sorry, I really think that he believes hard (and work hard) in his movies. The term "lazy" is really not appropriate, especially when we see the amount of work in the making of a SW movie...

Concerning the term "bastard", well, I'm really sorry to hear so many people having no respect. Hey, GL doesn't owe you anything, he makes his movies as he want to. That is. If you don't like it, ok, it's you're right, but please stop with insults...

I'll see if I can find them, if so I would be glad to scan the books and both sides of the records as well. I'm pretty sure I also have the Gremlins, and one of the indiana jones ones too. It may take awhile to find but I'll start looking soon and let you know what I find.

P.S. one of the Star Wars books is the one that came with tape the rest are the record versions, not sure if theres any differnce other than the record or tape on the cover.

Thanks, snake, all that seem very interesting!

I find the Order66 scenes really well done. The music, of course (thanks John Williams!), is really touching, and the way that the Jedi are wiped out (Clones under their command, killing them from behind) is really sad. Watching extremely powerfull characters being killed by cowards has touched me.
I was waiting to see that from the very begining of the PT and, even if it doesn't take place like the way I was imagining it, I think it's one of the best parts of ROTS.

But, well, I must say that I don't really like Aayla Secura's death just cause of the Amy Allen acting: she has no expression, and fall down really too fastly IMO...
Kit Fisto and the two other Jedi are also killed really too rapidly and too easily by Palpatine. Too bad...

Surely with the small amount of material available, the instructions/scans can be provided as a viewable gallery and also a DVD-ROM extra?

Why not? I've done that for my Jedi Knight DVD. A gallery is always cool to see on a TV (you can add some music and transition effects if you want), but just because of the res (not very big on a DVD), it's always good to have the pictures in full res in the DVD-ROM content.
Just my opinion...

No info on the creators at all. Googled their names, and all I get is news about them in 1999 when these episodes started getting released. Their website, physsion.org, no longer exists, so I think its pretty much a lost cause.

You might try using the wayback machine.

^ That's exactly what I was just about to say, Adam! This site really rocks, especially for dead sites

So, I've searched on the Wayback Machine. Here are some info links (most of the pictures, and all the videos are not available, due to the fact that the archiver just can't save all files, but text infos are still here):

>The old homepage of physsion.org
>Shadows of the Empire page

A possible version of Han Solo in ROTS
Time
Chewie in ROTS didn't bother me, I think it was not too much, and was "believable". After all, the battle takes place on Kashyyk and Chewie is a pretty good wookie warrior.
But Han would surely have been TOO much, and it goes against the EU, especially the "Han Solo Trilogy" novels in which we see him from his childhood to ANH... And I just love the way that this "smuggler" enters in the OT story, he's a totally "exterior" character, coming in just by coincidence (or by the Force, if you prefer...).

I'm really really glad that we don't see Han in ROTS, thanks!

Idea: Selectable Optional Scenes on a DVD?
Time
Personnaly, I really don't like the "chapter system". I have the "Alien Quadrilogy" DVDs and I must say that this system, on a non-high-quality DVD player, it creates interrupts during the viewing (due to the time for the lent to skip a scene, or searching a supplemental scene), and sometimes, the lent go crazy (when the movie has to be calibrated to the audio).
I've experienced that with the Alien box, and I hate that, it really get be "out of the movie", if you see what I mean, especially on the 1st Alien film, where you have choice between the new Director's Cut (in this version, some scenes are not complete, so the lent has to skip some parts of the movie) and the "regular" version (in this one, the let has to skip entire extra scenes)...
Hopefully, I still have the previous DVD box...

So, I really don't know about Star Wars DVDs made in the same way. If it creates the same "interrupts", I will not enjoy it...

Someone please explain why there is a 50's diner in the Star Wars universe...
Time
Concerning the 50's diner, I must say that I love the idea. First, it's a good hommage to American Graffiti (and the 50s of course), but the look in the film is really well done.

I don't understand how someone can say that it has no place in the SW universe. C'MON GUYS, Star Wars is, and has always been, a big hommage to retro-movies and retro-objects. I really don't see why it has no place in the SW universe, in the contrary!

Don't take it as an attack, but I think that many OT-fans, after have seen the entire OT, don't want to see any "new" SW stuff, don't want to see "unfamiliar" SW stuff. But, hey, what could be the point to do always the same things, over and over...

If you can't understand the presence of a 50's diner in the SW universe, I think that you've missed the "heart" itself of Star Wars. Too bad...
