Ok, assuming we are seeing the full frame between both versions of the film you would have:

Or (in my lame overlay anyway) about 780x470 which is 1.66, so halfway between 4x3 and 16x9.

On HD-DVD I'd like to see something closer to this AR. They could give us a little more picture and thinner black bars.

That sort of makes the 4:3 frame look the more complete than the widescreen crop.

The Angel Chronicles (movie project idea) (* unfinished project *)

Right I've decided that the first movie edit will focus on those Darla episodes from the first half of season two. Maybe called 'The Trials Of Darla' or something.

update:

Currently working on this now, I've devised a new shorter title sequence and am toying with using some different music it for it. Just to make things feel a bit different and special.

The Angel Chronicles (movie project idea) (* unfinished project *)

I mentioned this in a Buffy project thread a couple of weeks ago or more. But I’ve decided to begin putting it into action. Seeing as the first series is largely stand alone episodes, I’m going to start with season two. I’ll watch the whole season and look at a way to cut a ‘film’ or two out of it. Eventually having a series of films covering the whole five seasons.

Aesthetic ideas I’m toying with are having a new film like title sequence in place of the usual TV titles. This would help a lot I feel in making the experience of viewing more special. Giving each film a new subtitle as well of course.

If anybody has any ideas or suggestions to throw into the pot feel welcome.

I hate PAL anyway, with it's 4% speedup and higher pitched sound. I always import R1 NTSC because of this.

ya but it has a better resolution. Plus you can always edit it to slow it down if you want to.

Yeah, but the resolution is a trade off. NTSC always looks better on my projector than PAL anyway for some reason.
