More in the Google manifesto saga:

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-08-08/google-fires-employee-behind-controversial-diversity-memo

Alphabet Inc.’s Google has fired an employee who wrote an internal memo blasting the web company’s diversity policies, creating a firestorm across Silicon Valley.

James Damore, the Google engineer who wrote the note, confirmed his dismissal in an email, saying that he had been fired for “perpetuating gender stereotypes.” A Google representative didn’t immediately return a request for comment.

Google’s Chief Executive Officer Sundar Pichai sent a note to employees on Monday that said portions of the employee’s memo “violate our Code of Conduct and cross the line by advancing harmful gender stereotypes in our workplace.” But he didn’t say if the company was taking action against the employee.

Looks like his criticisms of Google being an ideological echo chamber were, in fact, accurate.

Yikes.

https://gizmodo.com/exclusive-heres-the-full-10-page-anti-diversity-screed-1797564320

Sidenote: This is not to be anti-Google or pro-Apple or pro-/anti-anything. These sorts of ideas exist in many many companies in this country and I’m sure just as many abroad. I am 100% sure that Apple might have these problems in the same amount or maybe even worse. This happens to all corporations. It’s a systemic issue.

Googlers,

I’m Danielle, Google’s brand new VP of Diversity, Integrity & Governance.

I’m not going to link to it here as it’s not a viewpoint that I or this company endorses, promotes or encourages.

lol

Are people really going to say the next President should be someone with zero experience after how well the current one is doing?

I think the idea is “Trump won, and he’s a well known celebrity, that must be why he won, let’s try it too.” But Trump winning was a total fluke, and if Zuckerberg, or The Rock, or Mark Cuban, or whoever else actually runs in 2020, they’ll be destroyed.

Very good news!

Booker Introduces Landmark Bill to End the Federal Prohibition on Marijuana

Followup:

http://thehill.com/homenews/345028-poll-finds-support-for-marijuana-legalization

Only 14% of people think that marijuana should be illegal. DAMN.

can all agree it should remain illegal for people under the age of 18? Can we also all agree that driving while high on marijuana should be illegal just like driving drunk is?

Of course, that’s obvious. I’d even say it should be illegal until you’re 21, since it can affect brain development if you use it while you’re still young.

I seem to remember Jeebus cheering on WikiLeaks during the run-up to the election. Wonder how he feels about them now?

I don’t know about him, but my thoughts were always that we shouldn’t ignore the shady stuff exposed by WikiLeaks purely because it came from WikiLeaks.

Unless it’s shady only because they trimmed out the context that would have revealed that it was normal (like their Mueller hit job)

It wasn’t though, the context was all there. Sure, the tweet was dishonest, but they didn’t remove contradicting information. They fooled only the people who look at the tweet and take it at it’s word; anybody who cared even remotely to follow up the information looked at the actual document. My point is, there may be reason to doubt the contents of the leaks in the future; but this isn’t it.

I’m disappointed, for sure. I don’t think they’re a Russian puppet organization, I don’t think they’re publishing false documents, but I think it’s very plausible that they’re withholding publishing information that contradicts their ‘narrative’. For example, the RNC may well have been hacked, and there may be juicy things in there; but Assange obviously has something to gain from Trump being in power, so he didn’t publish them.

I said a lot of stupid shit during the election, though, and I’ve distanced myself from much of it. I got caught up in the theatrics, and it’s a mistake that I hope not to make again.
