Shoplifting is a very big deal in China, as it should be (5-10 years in jail), but not to father LaVar. Should have gotten his son out during my next trip to China instead. China told them why they were released. Very ungrateful!

If we lived in the world you envision, microwave ovens would continue to run even if you opened the door. Users don’t deserve to have their faces burned off just because they make a mistake.

I would say it’s more like the microwave runs perfectly fine, as if it were a normal microwave; but if you trust your skills, you can open up the back panel and tweak the microwave to have a cooler looking timer, or even supercharge the microwave to heat really fast. If you don’t know what you’re doing, you may accidentally mess up the wiring and the microwave will stop running as well, or maybe even stop running at all; but it’s usually alright in the end because you can rollback the microwave to before you tweaked it at all.

My point is not that Apple caters to idiots and as such people who like Apple must be so. My point is Apple is very user-friendly-centric to the point of blocking off certain customizations, both in the front end and the back end, that I desire (many of which don’t come to mind, but I could immediately point out with an iPhone in hand)—and in being so it’s simply not for me.

And I’d argue that that’s a better decision, as the operating system should yield to the user, unless it is very likely that the user will do something bad.

Firstly, it’s not just specifically Apple’s job. It should be every tech company’s job.

Secondly, because technology should be for everybody, not just those who have dedicated a significant portion of their lives to learn the intricacies of it. Technology helps people, and we shouldn’t make it too hard for other people to use it.

90% of people use Windows on their home computer, 70% use an Android phone of some sort; if non-Apple tech is so hard to use, why are so many people using it with no trouble?

It’s actually pretty hard to ruin an operating system, it isn’t something you can just do accidentally.

Not a single person has ever had to dedicate a ‘significant portion of their lives’ to learning how to use a Windows computer.

I have heard of this guy! Just for some background, Meek Mill was sent to jail around 2008 for gun and drug possession. He served 6 months and was let out on probation. Ever since then he’s been on parole, which he has violated many times. The consensus I’ve seen is that he should definitely be punished for violating parole so many times, but 2-4 years is excessive. The judge was also accused of suggesting he [Meek Mill] remake a Boyz II Men song and give her a shoutout, as well as saying he should leave his record label—Roc Nation—and sign with her friend.

Totally agree. I do believe the developers care about the game, it’s just that their bosses don’t.

I’m pretty sure lightsabers still require some force (in the Newtonian sense, not the Force™) behind them, they don’t just melt through everything with no resistance. Think of the scene from Phantom Menace where Qui-Gonn has to cut through the blast doors on the Trade Federation ship. He was clearly putting a considerable amount of effort into cutting through the doors. I’d imagine a thin floor could be cut through, but the lightsaber would have to be dropped at the right angle, and very forcefully. I doubt it could get through a thicker floor, or even a second thin floor.

As silly as it is, I hope 4k never really takes off. Something bugs me about all the fanedits I have saved becoming increasingly obsolete. 480p is probably the lowest resolution I’ll go if I really want to watch something, and I do have some 480p fanedits saved; I just don’t like the thought of those becoming nigh-unwatchable on a 4k monitor. Hopefully upscaling technology gets better, as well, so it won’t really be a problem.

It’s not specific to Hollywood, it’s everywhere. The only reason we’re hearing about this stuff from Hollywood is because we know those peoples names, and often the names of the victims. People in less famous professions aren’t so lucky (or ones in professions where political affiliation will save you from any amount of heinous crimes).

I didn’t say it was specific to Hollywood, just that it may be more commonplace in Hollywood than other professions. And you’re right, it is only a big deal because these people are famous. If this kind of abuse was happening in the Lawyer ‘industry;’ I doubt people would even hear about it, and those that did probably wouldn’t care beyond a passing “that’s unfortunate.”

It’s happening in law, I can assure you that. And, I know that was just a random example, but it’s one of the most dangerous professions for this, as the predators there know exactly how to get away with it.

Not random at all. The articles I linked place ‘Lawyer’ as the 2nd most psychopath-prone profession, right under CEO and right above Media. But perhaps I shouldn’t have said ‘if’, because I’m sure it is happening, people just aren’t hearing or caring about it.
