Politics 2: Electric Boogaloo
Time

He was pulling up his pants. Why would he decide to pull out a gun as he’s being faced down by 2 officers with rifles? Why would he comply with their endless stupid demands if he intended to pull out a gun? If he intended to shoot, why not do it before surrendering? Those cops got on the scene intending to kill someone. They shouted confusing demands at him, hoping for him to slip up; as if to justify their cold-blooded murder. If they intended to arrest him, they would’ve done so the second he surrendered himself, but they wanted to play with their prey. Whether or not the cops genuinely believed he was reaching for a gun is immaterial, because everything else surrounding the case shows that they’re totally unfit for the position.

Bon voyage! Have fun in jail, shitbag!

He should’ve gotten life, and this is only one case stacked up against a mountain of cases where the cop gets away with it; but it’s a start.

I agree justice was done in this case. Yes there are cases where the cop gets away with it, there are also cases where people presume the cop guilty and won’t give the evidence an open-minded evaluation.

This absolutely fucking enraged me. I can not think of a punishment too cruel or too unusual for those cops.

I will agree that there is one big difference between a male being harassed and a female being harassed. Most men are bigger and stronger than women, that is just the biology works. So when a man gets harassed, he can defend himself because he is stronger, most of the time. But when a woman gets harassed, most of the time she can not.

I suppose they could, but how would that reflect on them? You may be able to punch a male harasser (even that would look bad, as Terry Crews said)

why/how would a woman punching a male harasser look bad?

A man punching a male harasser, sorry if it wasn’t clear.

I think that’s because I got to the article from a link on Twitter. You can delete that part and it works fine.

I just hope Disney pulls the plug on EA’s Star Wars license in the future. I’d love to see a new KOTOR from BioWare (or a new RPG from CD Projekt Red).

I’ve lost what little hope I had for a KotOR 3. Even with EA owning Bioware, having exclusive rights to the Star Wars license, KotOR being made available on Xbone and KotOR 2 having a massive update a year or two ago on steam. Setting aside that the game series is over a decade old and it’s no longer considered “canon”, what really made me lose hope was EA shutting down Visceral because of the “linear single player” Star Wars game they were developing. I still had hope. After seeing Deus Ex get a sequel after over a decade I had hope for KotOR, but no longer. It’s a shame because it is one of the finest role-playing experiences out there along with Ultima Underground, The Elder Scrolls chapter 2: Daggerfall and Baldur’s Gate.

OMG I need CD project red Bethesda to work on a Star Wars game that would be amazing

That would basically just be Fallout 4.

But Star Wars. Which would be amazing.

Bethesda is seriously overrated when it comes to making RPGs. Now, if they got the team that worked on New Vegas, I’d be all for it. Pagliarulo is just not a good writer, and I’d rather he not attempt a Star Wars game.

STAR WARS: EP VI -RETURN OF THE JEDI "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - ** PRODUCTION HAS NOW RESTARTED **

I found something that more accurately depicts what I think Vader could look like. He’s not freshly burned, but he’s not pale white.

I definitely don’t mean to tell anybody how it objectively should be, though. There’s arguments for every side, this is just my opinion.

I wouldn’t be opposed to a more natural burn scar/skin graft look, but the charred black “crispy” look doesn’t fit with it being two decades after the incident to me.

Of course, I didn’t mean completely crispy, just something less healed than what we got.

Here’s a solution that may not be feasible (or it may just be dumb, I don’t know), change Vader’s skin. Make Vader’s skin less less smooth and egg-ish and instead, to continue with the breakfast analogy, more like crispy bacon. The first one’s a joke picture, but my point still stands.

With Net Neutrality coming under attack yet again, I think it’s important that people understand that Government isn’t the only entity capable of oppressing the populace. Oftentimes, regulation of an industry is meant to protect the consumer from oppression at the hands of megacorporations. I see far too many people confusing Net Neutrality with the government trying to crack down on free speech and free enterprise, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.

My head actually hurts reading the last few pages.

Is it too much to ask that members think and then explain their opinions and thoughts… instead of seemingly posting whatever first comes to mind for the rest of us to suffer?

I suggest we leave it there and get back onto politics again.

I know that I’m going to be disrespecting a moderator and will probably be disciplined for it, but I have to say this.

This is what people have doing with discussions about women’s issues for decades. “Could we just move on to something else?” This is the attitude that caused all the cover-ups of sexual harassment. It’s a kind of erasure. No, we cannot move on. This is important stuff, and people need to realize it. It’s an especially privileged position to take. People need to realize the nature of our society and our culture. While I have found this discussion inane, it’s still important. I just hope after enough times, people will finally get it. Maybe I’m a bit too optimistic.

No, you’re not going be disciplined - why would you be?

As posted by myself in the part you chose not to quote:-

‘If anyone wants to start a thread on females and Star Wars or sci-fi / culture - feel free - it’ll hopefully be a lot better than what has appeared in here today.’

However, if you’re going to put words in my mouth and 2nd guess my request, thoughts and attitude… then we will have a problem.

I’ll just say at the beginning that this will be my final post in the matter, and that no personal offense is intended.

I did read that part that part of the post. My issue is with the larger cultural, institutional, and societal context of that attitude. I did not mean to insult you. I’m just saying that it’s emblematic of a trend to hush these issues. I am not saying that you did this intentionally. I am not blaming you. I do not hold anything against you. The problem I have is not with you; it’s with culture in general. I think men should not try to get as offended when they’re shown the cultural issues that we have at hand. If we do that, we’ll work closer towards increasing equality for all. I hope you consider this.

This is my final post on the matter. Thank you.

This is a strange statement to make after you chose not include the part of the post where everyone was told they were free to create a new thread on the very topic at hand.

No one here is hushing these issues - intentionally or otherwise.

It seems you are reading something into this that isn’t there.

I suggest a ‘read, think and then reply’ policy to other people’s posts for the future - and not then twist their words to suit a statement vs ‘culture in general’ etc.

I do look forward to a new thread on the topic discussed previously at hand - and as stated before, I hope it’s a lot better than the quality of what has occurred in here today.

Why don’t we just move the discussion back to the thread that started it all?

EDIT: Man, it’s crazy to see Jetrell, Hansi and Darth Id all on the latest page.

I guess my hangup is that there is one specific gendered insult that is supposed to be far, far worse than any other, even other female-gendered insults, and is unacceptable in any context for very vague reasons of nondescript power dynamics and vague references to “history”. I know about the historical oppression of women, but why this word rather than any other?

I’m pretty sure it’s the same reason that “fuck” is a lot worse than “shit”.

Perhaps to a soccer mom it is, but like yhwx said, they’re kind of on par with each other. I’d say those two are considered worse because of what they literally mean, but then that brings up the hypocrisy of people considering “crap” worse than “shit” so, like I said, the only consistent way to handle this stuff is to either say they’re all okay, or they all aren’t. OR even better, you take it on a case by case basis. Did the person saying it use it in a way that made him asshole? If no, then move on. If yes, then, well, move on but remember that that guy is an asshole.

Man, where is this place that “fuck” and “shit” are on the same level? Middle-schoolers can get away with “shit” here, but a single utterance of the word “fuck” means trouble. Anyway, the point is that there is no reason that one is worse than the other, it’s arbitrary.
