Back-Up's of the OT a New Forum or Offical Thread
Time
Thanks, I am glad to hear everyone is liking. Since I got my Faces LD and even before, I knew this day might come. Right now, I think the new forum or thread would first be about menus, pics of the chapters, things like that. I figure the layout of the SE(UE) DVD's can be copied from the same part of the LD. The important thing of course are the specs. So if any of you out there SEE some LD to computer stuff, email me at JediMasterDJR@yahoo.com. Right now my primary concern is to get the movies perfect on the harddrive. I am not even going to worry about burning them for real until the dual layer DVDR(RW) formats come out, but I will probably burn a part of the movies on a DVDRW just to see if it would work.

EDIT:

I feel your pain. All I can suggest is preserve the VHS copies as best you can, and if I can, I will see if I can figure out how to back up the VHS since I have two copies of the Faces Pan & Scan Trilogy on VHS.

Though with everyone's permission, I will start an offical thread in General Star Wars Discussion unless someone thinks another forum would be better. I'll post it in 2 days.

Back-Up's of the OT a New Forum or Offical Thread
Time
I think we should devote a whole new forum or offical thread to Back-Up the OT to DVDR formats and such. I don't think the site should have anything to do with selling copies of anything, too much legal hassal. But to have a forum or dedicated thread where we discuss in detail how to back them up. step by step, onto the current formats and the newer formats of DVD recordable, such as the ones that will have dual layer, would be great. And as I said, don't sell anything. Just have a disclaimer that says, "This information is for the legal backup of fans who own LD versions of the Original Theatrical Versions of the Star Wars Trilogy." And after all, who else would care about the information but those who could actually use it with their LD copies? What do you Jay and everyone else think? Yes or No?

most teenagers would... they need exciting action sequences to hold their attention to movies these days anyway... too much MTV!

While your last statement may be partially true, there were criticisms of the Ewoks (or just that they sucked) sense the day they hit the big screen in '83. I wouldn't chalk that all up to teenagers, especially since I'm one that I guess is in that minority? who didn't hate the Ewoks or Jar Jar. But what I do I know.

BOYCOTT (the 2004 OT SE DVD release)
Time
Thought the boycott idea does still sound great in some repects (thank the maker I got my Faces LD 2 days ago), perhaps buying it would prove a point as well. GL probably thinks of us, if he thinks of us, as spoiled brats. No matter what he does, we will never be happy. So he claims the moral high ground as an "artist" that has the "right" to pick one of his children and throw the other to the street. However, what happens when we say the following. "Gl, we bought the prequals. We bought the SE set in September. We politely petioned you to simply release the 'rough cuts' of your films, the original theatrical films on DVD, just to preserve your art. And once you do, we will still be buying, you know that. Otherwise, why have we continued to fuel Star Wars in the first place?"

Now honestly, after all that, who COMPLETELY has the moral high ground? Who will the film critics respect? Him or us? I think you know the answer to that and that is the reason I will be here, petioning for the original cuts until the masters are completely gone or I am dead. I am in it for the long haul. And regardless if you buy these sets in September, aren't you still in this? Isn't the classics of the 70's and 80's as they originally were worth fighting for? If you answer that as a no or you don't know the answer, perhaps you shouldn't be here in the first place. May the Force Be with you.

Yes, I am geeking out September 21st, most of us will. I still hold firm that GL should release the originals and I am going to buy the Faces Laserdisc to make sure I always have them.

But what I liked about the SE.

The new shot of the Jawa sancrawler.
The fixed landspeeder shots
The pan into Mos Eisley, don't care one way or the other about the goofy scenes (The droid smaching and the Jawas falling around)
I like the Wolfman almost gone, both GL and the modelmaker of the Wolfman HATED that mask and would have put just about anything else in IF they had anything left to use.
I like the Jabba scene, not the CGI. I can deal with the stepping on Jabba's tail only because it shows that Han has some backbone after he was neutered with the Greedo scene. (hate Han shooting second by the way)
The shot of the Falcon lifting was good, even with the different geometry.
I liked the new explosion of Alderaan.
The improved matte shots of the Falcon in the Death Star
Threepio's explanation of the schematics of the Death Star, instead of silently looking at it.
The restored Biggs scene.
The new Battle of Yavin, far superior and no more of these repeating shots of things like in the old one, not counting the Death Star turbolasers.
New explosion of Death Star, looks more like a battle station exploding instead of more like a chemistry experiment on film.
The replacing of the cardboard looking soldiers in the Celebration at the end was good.
Liked shots of Wampa, but they need to replace the old head
The new windows are good in Cloud City, but ILM needs to fix the lighting and ABSENCE of windows when you see the shot of the stormtroopers that trap Leia, Han, and Chewie when they are facing Vader.
I don't like the line chance of Luke in Dagobah, but if Ben Burt says the source material was not in good enough shape, I'll believe him.
Mixed feelings about Vader's new lines and getting on the Star Destroyer, could live with or without it.
Mixed feelings about Luke screaming, but considered he has always screamed when his hand is cut off(his father didn't with most of his arm cut off, just an ahh) and considering Luke is still a Jedi Padawan/Apprentice, I can deal with it.
The new addition to the top hatch of the Falcon when Lando goes to save Luke is good.
Didn't like Jedi Rocks as much as Lapti Nek, but I can live with it, it is somewhat catchy I suppose.
The Twi'lek falling in the pit was cool, built up more, "what does this monster look like" suspense.
The bantha herd was cool.
The fixing of the shot of Jabba's sail barge was good, it doesn't look like bad 80's shadow people are walking on it anymore.
Mixed feelings on the Sarlacc. I could live with or without it. It destroys some logic of the sharp spikes around its neck? but also adds more tension to the scenes.
Like Han's new line of "I can see a lot better now," from the old line "Trust me."
The explosion of the Second Death Star was better.
And finally, the new celebration is far better to the old. I like the new scenes and the music. A more fitting end to ROTJ and the SW saga as a whole.

SE Trilogy on DVD coming this Fall
Time
I would like to say hello to everyone, I have been away due to being massively busy, but no more. And you can bet this Jedi Master stands with you. I am going to get more signatures and I am going to figure out where to email GL. He is getting my mail, everyday. It will not be HATE mail, but I will civily inform every day that this is a mistake. That is what I am going to do.

TO Jay, Don't Give Up. Thousands more will join us in this news. We only have begun to fight. It is time that we show them we are a real market and force.

"Control, Control, you must learn control."

That simply statement heard round the world more then 23 years ago is something GL definately should have considered with TPM, but its all over now. I would like to point out though, alot of the reason AOTC had less merchandise wasn't just because the stores were burned(even though burned is probably not a good enough verb to describe what happened in the opinion of some stores I am sure), but also because even as the Star Wars Insider said, GL wanted to keep the AOTC more low tech then TPM, for obvious reasons,

Couldn't have put it better myself. I wish I could go back and redo all the posts that happened when I got in that shouting match with Jedi Master DJR. It's all fixed now, but I am a lot more careful about what I post. The last thing I want is to be misunderstood, and I think that goes for all of us. How is GL supposed to take us seriously if we're all sniping at each other?

I wish I could rephrase and take back alot of the things I said as well. We all have bad days, and as long people are willing to stop, apolgize, and move on I am fine, as well as most other people. This is a message board. Many things are miswrote or misunderstood. Being a Christian personally and realizing these facts about message boards, I am glad that everyone seemed to be ok. We're all friends as said before, if we should be debating with anyone nicely, it should be good old George Lucas. GL, if you ever read this, none of us hate you, we just want to see those old rough cuts of yours.

What do you think? Does this petition make a difference?
Time
Do i think this petion will make a difference? Yes, for one big reason. If a single editor from a major outlet and/or magazine, we have it gold. Can you imagine what would happen if the published New York Times or USA Today published this? We wouldn't have tens of thousands, but hundreds of thousands of signatures within weeks. The goal is to this on a major newspaper, or maybe something as simple as the front page of AOL that has millions of members.

GREAT NEWS ALL!

That article was awesome Luke, and I sincerely think we may be able to get this on the New York Times. No joke. They had an article lamenting how much they want Star Wars on DVD, especially after hearing about Indiana Jones coming to DVD. If we all send some emails to them, it could happen. I suggest to Jay and all the rest, email them!
