thats true... but look at the content...
its religion based... and if we know one thing.. you get flamed whenever you voice your opinion on religion... you cant please everyone...
i still dont see why jewish people were offened.... maybe they should read the bible...

i also agree that the force lost its mysticism...
i could have done without the explanation

Well, you asked about when Hollywood didn't kiss each other's butts and that was one of the rare exceptions. And as for the Force, I don't think it lost all of its mysticism, just some when the explanation went further then 4 and 5's.

This is where I disagree with the sentiments of many of the site, being the middle on this. I don't want GL to give it a rest. The fixed snowspeeders, landspeeders, and new ANH battle alone show he can make things much better then the originals. And I don't think he will continue every few years to update once he can sit down and finish it all off because he seems to like how CGI portrays his vision and I think he will be done with it all soon enough, otherwise he would make Episodes 7-9, which he is not. So while I understand the joking, give it a rest. I want him striving to improve, but I also want him to preserve. So he can have the originals and the directors cut he likes. I definately dislike the stigma he is starting to get here for wanting a better cut. There needs to be a Seperation of Logic, like Seperation of Powers. The petion is to preserve the originals, not say the SE is inferior. And really if everyone thought the SE was better, I would probably have had to make the petion because people are missing the point. It doesn't matter which one is better. Take LOTR. It doesn't matter if the EE is better or not, just that OT and EE(or whatever it evolves into) are preserved, period. There's my clarification of my position and what I think is the main point of the petion, not this arguing over versions.

i agree with that too. i maybe could even like the SE if i knew that i could get the OT too, that they could co-exist peacefully. but since it isn't the case, i see the SE as the "murderer" of the OT and thus dislike it with a passion. i guess this will change when i'll get my bootleg dvds or when (being idealistic now) they will finally release the OT too.

and i also don't think that the SWs movies are only George Lucas'. he would be a nobody doing movies about teens in the fifties and space ducks if it weren't for the fan. let's face it: movies are not like books. you might be able to print your own book, paying the publishing costs etc by yourself but for a movie it is impossible, those cost waaayyy too much. and guess with whose money GL made the SW movies (especially the prequels and excluding ANH)? with the fans'. so, in a certain way, they are ours too, it's the money we've invested that made it possible. and they should release the OT at least as a sign of respect and ecknowledgement for this. and for historical preservation because it is the OT that established SW as a popular phenomenon. if it hadn't been that successful there wouldn't be a SE, let alone the prequels. so it's actually our own fault that this happened. we killed the ot!

I disagree in that GL made the decision not to release the OT. And ANH could have been a flop, he never knew it would do so good. But see, I don't hate the SE because GL won't let the OT come to DVD. I dislike GL in that regard, but only GL since he is the one with the legal power after all.

I personally like the Special Editions more. So I can live without the originals. Still even then I would sign if it wasn't for all the prequal bashing. Attack of the Clones is a masterpiece how dare people bash a movie that good.

Well, people bashed A New Hope when it first came out and really classics many times are not appreciated in their own time. But even with all that and liking the SE more, you don't want to preserve the originals? What happens if you began to like the OT more in the future? Or if the UE that comes out sucks compared to the '97 SE? Wouldn't you want the SE on DVD if the UE sucked? Why not then the OT if you answered yes to the previous question?

How do Star Wars people go to the bathroom?

This is what I am talking about, though it appears theforce.net was never able to pick up a copy and review them.

Star Wars Technical Journal of the Planet Tatooine
Star Wars Technical Journal of the Imperial Forces
Star Wars Technical Journal of the Rebel Forces

and I remember reading the answer section of a Star Wars Insider that mentioned the Incredible Cross-Sections showed the spot where the toilet was located on the Falcon, though I don't have that one.

I would disagree. While I think midi-chlorians are fine, it does explain why some people can't use the force even though they create it and the Jedi had to have some way of finding new Jedi potentials, it was still contriversal to do. Before Episode 1 the Force was a bit more mystical, a more techniqual explanation did demystify it and to some fans' eyes it went over to Star Trek. (But that is another debate for another time.)

and i didn't mean that they do that to con people in believing that those are the original ones but only that they are using the poster of the movies that established SW as a cult trilogy, for releasing the SE.

Ok, I see your point. But I mean that is a pretty popular Star Wars image, but like I said, I agree it can be misleading. Perhaps the disc covers inside have some kind of SE image inside.

Alright, I see we will not agree on this point. I think there will be just casual fans who will buy it because they think it is the exact Star Wars they remember for the most part, you don't. So I guess the thing would be to agree to disagree.

And as for the main idea of the topic, I must say I have no plan to boycott, calling me a Tory of the American Revolutions but I will continue to petion the King. (j/k)
