Back to the Future II: not necessarily a digital alteration but definitely a visual one.

The original: featuring “Coming Summer 1990”, as seen at the end of the theatrical and home video versions, including the Blu-ray:

Removed from the version shown in recent years by ITV (UK) and the “BTTF Part III” logo also appears to have been altered from the original.

Spielberg yet again, this time with Minority Report. In the theatrical version, the Swedish dialogue spoken by Peter Stormare to his assistant was subtitled in English. This translation was removed from the home video (and from what I’ve seen), the TV broadcasts.

An insider at Paramount claims that from 1997 onwards, the colours on The Godfather and Part II have never been correct and very likely, never will be. A depressing read that also includes details of how the original negative was mishandled during the 80s for home video transfers.

UK Blu-ray uses the the original US Taco Bell dialogue, whereas the Scandinavian release uses the Pizza Hut lines and contains the digital alterations seen in the comparison clip above. However in recent years, Sky Movies has apparently begun screening the Euro version.

These revisions will also be present on the 4K BD and (presumably) the standard BD that comes with it.

That means it will become the default HD version of the theatrical release, much like with the Star Wars Blu-ray’s. I’ll stick with my DVD, just as I have with Aliens.

That’s so amazing, I’ve heard so many horror stories about dubbing in France, Spain and a few other places. One friend told me that during the VHS era, in France, you had to go into a specialist section of video retailers if you wanted English language versions of films. Even now in the UK, dubbing has been long retired but non English language content is still relegated to arts and culture channels and late night schedules.

Indeed! One of my French pals can speak over half a dozen languages fluently, they’re the fan subbing dream! 😃

I’ve always loathed dubbing and regarded it as an affront against the viewer. A Polish friend said that for years, a small set of people provided most of the dubbing voiceovers for the stuff they saw on TV and you could immediately identify them.

Yes, extremely unusual. I’m in the UK and although there were a handful of widescreen broadcasts during the 80s and early 90s (I remember in particular, 2001, Manhattan, THX 1138), most films that aired on TV were panned and scanned and it’s even more surprising that it was shown with the original English language track and Portuguese subtitles. I was expecting dubbing, which is commonplace in many European countries.

For your future videos, consider fleshing them out just a little. Add some sort of audio commentary, where you discuss the differences, title cards that introduce the comparison and that also include the name of your channel, maybe a burned in watermark and a closing title card with the channel’s name, thanking people for watching and asking them to share and subscribe.

I know it’s extra work but that way, your videos are definitely transformative and those additions will strengthen your ability to issue claims with Y.T. when others steal your clips.

Ok, I see where you’re coming from. There’s no evidence of him selling or soliciting sales in any form. These individuals on the other hand, are online, collecting money for content that they know was never made commercially available and was never produced with that intent.

You mean the people selling the discs, of course. Harmy is not selling them, which is the whole point…

Then, once you have the refund, also report them to the relevant copyright protection agency for selling bootlegged content.
