We got hosed on more Dalton films in any event.

Yeah, although the producers had always wanted Pierce Brosnan all along to replace Moore but his contract for Remington Steele had scuppered those plans.

I also love Tomorrow Never Dies.

Me too and hopefully the original uncut version will surface one day.

Eh, I haven’t seen much (if any) love for Licence to Kill. I’d say that one’s pretty widely regarded as bad, or at least a misstep.

I think it’s been reappraised in some circles as we’ve had grittier 007 outings since then. And aside from the opening of Diamonds Are Forever it’s the only time we’ve seen Bond truly going rogue.

I met John Glen, the director of LTK and TLD (plus much more), a couple of years ago and he said that Dalton’s Bond was ahead of its time and was much closer than the previous actors as to how Fleming had depicted Bond in the novels.

Info: Robocop - 35mm print with 1:66.1 aspect ratio - for sale on ebay...
Time

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/35mm-Feature-ROBOCOP-1987-Paul-Verhoeven-ULTRA-RARE-/302438284225?hash=item466ab9fbc1:g:fr4AAOSwhf1ZnQmU

The only home video release with the original aspect ratio has been the Criterion LD/DVD. Every widescreen TV airing I’ve seen used the 1:85.1 AR. As with many prints on eBay, the audio is in Russian but that could be easily replaced. However, the print appears to be in such poor condition that would we really get any good results?

I would be interested in your opinions on this.

Are we going to have to preserve a T2 print now?

Russian audio and probably Russian credits too. The condition doesn’t look that great either, considering the asking price but just throwing it out there…

He’s probably going to wish he revised his comments on Wonder Woman going by the twitter reaction so far. 😉

Ok, caught this tonight at the BFI IMAX. Cameron might also wish he’d revised his comments about the number of revisions in T2:3D, as there’s much more than just the windshield alteration. It’s been a few years since I’ve watched my NTSC Artisan DVD but there’s a number of changes that I immediately spotted.

Somehow, I missed the censorship of Robert Patrick’s genitals though. 😮

They were on show for 26 years, why conceal them now? 😛

Info: Star Trek movies - alternate versions...

Star Trek IV - The Voyage Home

  • USA theatrical version - released on Blu-ray
  • UK theatrical version called “The Voyage Home : Star Trek” - apparently released on VHS?
  • PAL DVD version - DVD - features a new beginning containing a montage of scenes from Star Trek II and III
  • are there any more versions?

The “story so far” montage seen on the PAL DVD release was not new. It was present in the UK theatrical version in 1986 (I saw it) and it was also present on the version of ST IV included in the UK VHS TOS era widescreen collection.

Star Trek VI - The Undiscovered Country

  • theatrical version - released on Blu-ray
  • VHS/Laserdisc version - released on LD/VHS
  • DVD version - released on DVD
Are there any more versions? 3 different cuts doesn’t seem like enough, since Nick Meyer is a bit of a George Lucas and he tries to re-do his films constantly. I also heard that the REAL theatrical version had different closing credits, but I never managed to find any evidence of its existence.

There are two DVD releases of ST VI. The original, which is the same cut as the VHS/LD release and then a special edition, with a different aspect ratio (1.78:1) and the faces of the conspirators are shown during Valeris’ mind meld interrogation.

I’ve been playing a heap of Fallout 3 recently. I know it gets a lot of hate, but if this is the worst Fallout game, I can’t wait to play the best.

It isn’t, that would be 4. The best of the 3D is New Vegas, no doubt.

Really? That’s interesting, I bought PS3 New Vegas some time ago but never played it much. Sounds like I ought to revisit it.

Help: looking for... Preservations of the 80s HBO and NBC TESB broadcasts?
Time

I had a look through the forum using Google and the search terms, “HBO”, “NBC” and “empire” but nothing came up. Is there any interest in preserving these, especially since the 87’ NBC airing featured a special intro by James Earl Jones? Does anyone know if they are from the same master used for the time compressed 1985 Pan and Scan CAV LD?

From now until season 6 we will be dealing with censorship.

ARC Troopers
11:31 to 11:32 was removed for the broadcast on Cartoon Network
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P-mqn4s61no (Side note: The clip is from the Blu Ray release, but the one who posted it cropped the vidoe to 16:9)

(Unaltered Version found only on iTunes and the original broadcast)

This is somewhat confusing, you state that the Cartoon Network broadcast was censored but yet you also state that only the iTunes and original broadcast are unaltered. Is the Blu-ray not uncensored?

That’s what is believed. None of the victims match the description he gave.

I thought it was odd that the name did not appear on any of the casualty lists that were published but I put it down to maybe him referring to a middle name or some kind of clerical error.

JC has also altered the colour grading, in a similar vein to that visited upon Aliens and The Terminator.

Actually, the home video colour of all the films were wrong, if that’s what you hold as sacrosanct. They did not reflect the photochemical finish of the 35mm prints, which had more yellow, teal, purple and brown. This was the case with almost all mainstream studio films back in the day. Titanic’s colour timing is no exception.
The digital grading of 2012 tries to go back to that look but because of the limitations of the Rec 709 colour space, it still cannot achieve that result.
From what I have seen, Aliens, The Terminator, all look close to their 35mm couterparts but not the same.

Very well but I’m sticking with the earlier versions of all three films. For me, the comparison below sums up why the director does not always know best. 😃

The only things that were changed in Titanic was the star field in the sky, removal of studio equipment, re-framing the “Left Eye,” “Right Eye” shots, making the “TITANIC” credit a bit bolder. I am not aware of anything else that was changed.
