The Rise of Skywalker: Ascendant (Released)

Just got finished watching the new Justice League. Boy, let me just say, if this movie gets the same treatment in a few years, I will be one happy camper.

As for changing Rey’s clothes to black at the end, I feel like that kinda goes against her whole Skywalker name claiming at the end. Really pointless and distracting as a result. If she said she was “Rey Palpatine”, it would make sense lmao.

Also, I always felt that one scene with Leia was hella awkward. I agree something should go there. Are there some lines available for her from Lego The Force Awakens game?

The problem with this petition is that it’s based on the JJ cut nonsense. We have no evidence that JJ was forced to cut the movie down any more than any other movie has to be cut down for run time. The “Disney Star Wars is Dumb” source the petition links to is a repost of a post originally from /r/saltierthancrait, clearly intended to stir up controversy and almost certainly fabricated.

It’s like the QAnon thing - there’s a whole culture of Star Wars fans, and particularly YouTubers, who buy in to this enormous divide and conflict at Lucasfilm because of their supposed insiders, and are sure that any day now Joe Biden Kathleen Kennedy will be suddenly ousted or arrested or something. With Justice League, the BTS issues were well-known, obvious, and corroborated by the actors. The “JJ cut” idea is just a desperate attempt to apply that same concept to this movie, even though TROS didn’t bring in a second director for reshoots or anything similar.

My point is there’d probably be more of a chance of success with a straight forward petition to release the deleted scenes we know were shot, rather than bringing in unsubstantiated speculation and begging for a cut that doesn’t really exist.

Sorry, this isn’t anything to do with Ascendant.

I was merely sharing the most popular petition I found. No need to bring politics into this. I also found it strange how they linked that article, but I felt that wasn’t the main purpose of the petition. The purpose was for Disney to release a 3-hour cut of TROS, regardless of if JJ actually wants to or not. If you look at the Justice League petitions, one got a little over 100k signatures. I shared that one because it’s close.

You have to admit that, based upon the novel, it’s quite likely that a significant amount of content was removed. True, we don’t know how much of the extra content in the novel was filmed, but I’d be willing to wager a lot of it was. Not to mention the scenes they didn’t end up using due to rewrites.

EDIT: Should also clarify that the problem with asking for just the scenes to be released is that it wouldn’t have as much support, the effects wouldn’t be completed, and they would likely end up with the infamous timecode. Can’t imagine anyone here would be too happy to remove those damn things for all the scenes.

[Edit: Burbin, sorry, didn’t mean to post so quickly together. That looks nice!]

I like it as well.

Interestingly enough, they were at one point considering having Kylo’s cracks on his mask be gold (according to the documentary). I think this is a really nice nod to that.

If I was Supreme Leader of the galaxy I would definitely have several rides. It would be like the richest person in the world only driving one car around.

I suppose it would be cool to make this second one look unique, but even if we can’t get it right it’s really not that big of a deal. Maybe Kylo just really likes that color scheme so he does the same one on all of his ships.

I think its quite funny how this movie and ROTJ share so many of the same issues, and I’ll probably get flack for saying it but after watching V1 I enjoy this movie more than ROTJ, and even TFA.

No stones thrown from here. I actually agree with this sentiment. I dislike most of ROTJ except for the Luke/Palpatine/Vader stuff. And TFA was always kinda boring.

We could make the TIE on Pasana the same TIE from TLJ? (of course non of us are miracle workers)

I’m surprised JJ didn’t do that to Johnsons’s TIE in this movie since those two enjoy destroying each other’s creations in these movies. Lol.

Yeah and he also repairs anything that he didn’t like Rian destroying (Kylo’s mask cough cough).

C’mon, man, it was a continuation of Kylo Ren learning from his failure in TLJ. After the throne room scene he stops letting the past die because it’s a horrible idea, look what happened between him and Rey, he even just becomes Supreme Leader of the First Order instead of creating a new Order altogether.

Chill my guy it was a joke.

I actually feel like it was a good decision on his part, granted not for the same reasons as you.

Watching TROS:A is going to be enough of an elevated* experience compared to the theatrical. Much more so than I imagined when creating this thread out of obligation. I’m impressed and happy with it, as you all know.

Also, I for one disagree that TROS is fundamentally flawed. The novel, if a bit messy, is proof that it isn’t.

If there were an Episode X directed by Rian he would continue the meta conversation by putting Finn and Rose back into a relationship or something lmao.

Man, I’m sensing a common theme here. Justice League was written in part by Chris Terrio and it was a big pile of doo-doo. But enough people asked for an extended/redone version and now (mostly) everyone likes the version to be released tomorrow.

I just hope that TROS, which was written in part by Chris Terrio, gets the same treatment. If it does happen, it would probably be released in 2024, so this project needs to be enough to tide us over until then. I think we’ve definitely accomplished that and some more, given what we have.

I do wonder what the thought process was, or if the TIE originally wasn’t meant to be destroyed or pop up throughout the rest of the movie. It’s not impossible for him to just have multiple ships or whatever, but it is weird for the movie to present what could be read as a plot hole like that. Just kind of weird.

I bet it was clarified at one point, but for some reason it was believed that the finale of the Skywalker saga didn’t need to be longer than the rest of the movies. So they started ripping out “unneeded” scenes and clarifications.

IMO this movie needed to be 3 hours long in order to work right. Reminds me of the whole Justice League situation. I hope one day we get a longer cut just like with that movie.

Yeah either way we’ve already made it much more believable by removing the TIE completely exploding. Flames don’t seem to affect the wayfinder, but I doubt it could withstand an explosion.

I still remember watching the movie opening night and having people gasp at that moment because they thought that Kylo literally just freaking died. Lmao.

Did he have any more reason to take the Wayfinder to the DSII, though?

I feel like he does. I made that distinction in my previous post. He first wanted to push Rey to her limits so that she would tap into her “unlimited powah”. Then he would later try to convince her to come to Exegol with him. Would be risky to bring the wayfinder with him for the first part. I know I wouldn’t if I were him.

And MR, that is somewhat true. Although I’d imagine that if the ship was considered a prototype in TLJ that they would have made at least one more since then in the year gap between films.

But it is weird that the Wayfinder would be on a second resort one rather than the first one. Unless he just retrieved it from the smashed first one. Did it go through two fiery destructions of TIEs? Sith engineering is robust.

He didn’t have any reason to bring the wayfinder with him to Pasaana. His goal was to test Rey’s powers to their limit at that point. He probably disconnected it and stashed it somewhere. But when he went to Endor he was planning on taking Rey with him to Exegol, thus why he would bring it along in his TIE.

Honestly it’s not that big of a deal though.

I could dial the pink back since it’s barely purple anyway. Feels very Easter.

I suppose you’re right.

That is from Ireland.

I’m definitely alright with pink then (like in the image above).
