Evidence of OOT at Lucasfilm?
Time
I have just noticed that a shot in 'Empire of Dreams' is taken from the Original Original Trilogy transfer rather than the SE or the 2004 DVD. And it looks as if its of decent quality.

Top - Clearly the 1979/80 compositing work from an OOT transfer (seen in Empire of Dreams)
Bottom - the 'cleaned up' version from the 2004 DVD

Has anyone got anymore evidence of great looking OOT transfers in the possesion of LFL?

Idea & Info: THX "WOW!" Laserdisc

There was also a legitimate DVD release of this. I've got it. It's most notable for the lovely "Soundtrack!" segment featuring some raw footage from Star Wars, Empire and Indiana Jones, which wound up in Deleted Magic. The "Wow!" montage is also quite fun.

A lot of people here have this in some form.

It also ended up in Building Empire.

***//BUILDING EMPIRE\\: PAL & NTSC DVD - NEW EDITION NOW ONLINE! ***
Time
To those who have PM'd me recently - Sorry about the lack of replies, but as you might imagine my inbox is full full full.

Here are the answers to a few questions:

- I am in the UK.

- The disk is single layer

- The project is PAL, I have no plans for an NTSC version

- Returning to Jedi will follow this autumn/winter

- I will post on this thread when it's finished and ready - it's nearly there.

Thanks

Help Wanted: 1980s ITV Broadcast of Star Wars onto DVD?
Time
Russ

Thanks for doing those transfers. AS I haven't seen the VHS tape itself for some years (I don't have a VHS Player at the moment) I can't really comment on how the DVD transfer compares.

My first reaction was that it was of fairly decent quality. There's a little colour bleeding (though the colours look nice and vivid), some distortion and some artifacts. When viewed on a smaller tv or in a window on my desktop it looks pretty good.

There is some 'noise' on the soundtrack - but this is to be expected.

Overall I am pretty happy with this, though I am not sure it warrants a release as there aren't enough difference with previous releases to make it worthwhile.

Maybe after 'Returning to Jedi' and the 'TOP SECRET PROJECT', I might tackel the 'ITV ANH'.

Thanks for all your help

Ha ha! Have you taken me under your wing G?!

I must say OCP that I agree that it's good to get things right. It's been great to get feedback and have a second chance at Building Empire. I came up with so many cool little ideas - just like you said "Don't just listen to my suggestions. Think up your own."

Also, as time has passed I have been learning the software which has improved things a great deal. Furthermore, Returning to Jedi should look even better.

And don't worry G, there's one ready for you before the release. Can you PM me your address again though.

Ok, I guess it's time for an update.

The final 'product', bar a few tweaks is currently being (or soon to be) QA'd by a friend.

After his comments (I am sure there will be some corrections to make), I will be releasing the DVD to all those that can send me an SAE (Stamped self-addressed envelope) with a good quality blank DVD-R enclosed. I will make the copy and send it back.

Obviously this will be easier for those in the UK. Perhaps someone can suggest a solution for the international peeps.

The documentary has been very much re-jigged with new clips and commentary utilised where possible. Along with some great new text facts that I have found out since the provisional release.

There is also a brand new menu - still on the same theme but enhanced somewhat. I have also integrated new graphics for the submenus with new transitions between them. There is also a disclaimer, isolated restored music sequences, alternate opening crawl (on the DVD this time rather than an AVI on in the DVD-ROM folder).

Generally I am much more pleased with the overall product. I hope you are too!

It should be done and dusted in two weeks.

AND THEN..............

REQUEST:

I am currently going through Bulding Empire with a fine-tooth comb.

At the start I have Dennis Muren talking about the opening aerial Tauntaun shot. However the audio is cut at the end of his line:

"..is something that we've been using ever since".

It sounds more like:

"...is something that we've been using ever sin"

I have gone back to the source material - the laserdisc supplementals (that I got on DVD some years ago) and found that it too is cut/clipped in this way.

Would one of you lovely people check to see it their laserdisc supplemental Dennis Muren interview does this too. If however you have a 'cleaner' version I would be grateful if you could send it my way! (I literally only need that line, so an mp3 or wav will suffice)

Thanks in advance

Info Wanted: 20th Century Fox Promotional Video (1980s)
Time

I have just received a VHS shown to press for the release of the Star Wars Home Video in the 1980s.

It comes in a plain black VHS case with the a black and white “20th Century Fox” sticker on the outside.

The VHS itself is 10 mins long and shows a condensed version of ‘The Making of Star Wars’. The label reads “Demonstration Only”

The video ends with “May the Video be with You”

Does anyone know anymore about this item?

Thanks
J
