Mpeg-1 Audio on DVD - Help required
Time
I am using my mac and Cinematize to rip from a DVD.

It rips the video fine but as the audio tracks are "Unspecified Mpeg-1" and Final Cut Pro 4.5 won't accept them if I decode them using either of the two options - "Elementary Stream" and "Mpeg-2 Program Stream"

Does anybody have any tips on how I can get this audio extracted to work in FCP?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

***//BUILDING EMPIRE\\: PAL & NTSC DVD - NEW EDITION NOW ONLINE! ***
Time
Here's some screen grabs from the soon to be approved 'final version'

The new menu, the title screen, the sub menu (using SKY's cover graphics), a screen shot from the doco footage itself, the restored music submenu and the DVD-ROM page explaining what can be found in the DVD-ROM Folder.

For those that already have my address, send me a blank DVD-R with your name and address on it, and I will send you a copy as soon as I am able.

***//BUILDING EMPIRE\\: PAL & NTSC DVD - NEW EDITION NOW ONLINE! ***
Time
This morning I've sent copies out to OCP and Meedermow (he's a QA guy) for final review and QA.

As soon as they have got back to me, I will be sending out the final final version to everyone I can (within reason).

In reply to the plethora of PMs i've had:

a) THIS IS NOT YET FINISHED! (phew)

b) I will NEVER accept money for this project.

c) IT IS STILL NOT FINIHSED (yes I'm shouting)

That said, thanks for your continued interest. I will be posting soon letting you all know about the final version and when requests for it can be made. Until then, I would be grateful if you could hold of PM'ing me.

Thanks

Understanding the saga - A perspective from T.F.N
Time
Sorry if I started something there Adam - it was certainly no my intention. And remember guys, just because we have differing opinions, it doesn't mean that we are right or wrong. Adam's views are just as valid as anyones aged 17 or not. ADD or not.

Adam, I am about 12 years older that you mate and have had a much longer time with ONLY the OT. I grew up with it. Of course I am going to prefer it and the fact that I know it back to front (especially Empire now) means that I must have a genuine affection for it. It was and still is a big part of my life. It got me into working in the industry for a start.

I don't really like to bash TF.N either. I think it's a pretty decent site at times and at least lets us have a discussion now and again. We can be such a polarized community at times and posts like Adam's can be thought provoking and they certainly give me an insight into the workings of a kid that's grown up with the prequels.

In reference to your line "The PT basically tells you where all those mythic guys came from". I think that's the problem for most of us OT lovers. We loved the myth and the mystery of the OT characters - who are they, what drives them etc. The point is, it was ambiguous enough for us to make our own interpretations regardless of our circumstances. The PT just went and spelled it all out on a whiteboard - and simply patronised it's audience.

Adam, keep posting and we'll keep discussing (and bitching!). Some of us can be bitter old bastards though

"Future Theatrical and DVD Releases" What do we think they will be?
Time
Starwars.com:

"We look forward to bringing the same experience to our members with the two Star Wars television series in development, an anticipated Celebration IV event, next-generation Star Wars video games, special theatrical and DVD releases and whatever else the future has in store."

So what do we think these "Special Theatrical and DVD releases" will be?

My guess - A triple bill of the PT and a two trilogies box set. Ho hum.

Understanding the saga - A perspective from T.F.N

A very odd post I must say.

Isn't that all pretty obvious from simply watching the films or moreover listening to Lucas's endless rhetoric.

I still have big problems linking the two Trilogies. They seem like chalk and cheese to me.

The OT was inventive, original (well, traditional with a twist), funny, clever and above all entertaining. The PT for me was trite and derivitive and lacked all that made the OT such a big part of childhood. I really don't think that the PT will grow with it's child audience the way that the OT did with my generation. My newphews have grown up with the PT and have already moved on. They still like the OT but say that the PT is good for their little cousin - aged 4.

I don't think this TV series will do much to help matters either.

Harrison Ford's Feelings about the Holiday Special
Time
I put the Holiday Special on yesterday. I haven't seen it since about 1994. And I have to say it makes me cringe so much. It's like watching a film where all the stars are contracted to do it and clearly non of them want to be there and are just going through the motions. (is this the case?)

I must say I don't really know much about the 'why'.

Also, lets hope that the make-up artist on the Holiday Special is no longer in the business. Did they own shares in an eye-liner company?! Blimey!

Evidence of OOT at Lucasfilm?

Yeah, but that wasn't a case of actually changing the story or content. Those changes you are referring to (such as removing the snake's reflection in Raiders) is really no different than cleaning up a film or removing unwanted grain, in that the reflection was never intentional.

Yeah, I have to say that back in 1994 when the SE was first announced, I thought that a simple clean up and removal of silly mistakes was the intention. I was amazed in 97 to find that some glaring errors were still included whilst all around effects were completely redone. For instance you can still see the cable pulling that droid along in the scene where Luke is searching for R2 with his macro-binoculars. And of course the infamous R5 shot remained.
