Your Greatest Star Wars Day.
Time
I have two best Star Wars days - I'll keep them short:

1) My parents took me on a birthday surprise visit to The Dominion theatre in London to see ROTJ in 1983. The experience was furthered by a visit to Hamleys (the world's biggest toy shop!) to stock up on LOTS of new figures and ships!

2) I saw the OT back to back at Elstree in 1993(?). It was the last official Lucasfilm approved showing of the OT before the SE's were released. There was even a message from Lucas himself.

Luke VS. The Abominable Snow Man/Wampa in ESB - oddly enough, the wampa didn't hit him in the face

You've obviously not seen 'Building Empire' yet. Several 'official' sources have told me that Mark's injuries were not that bad. Mark himself has said that he only broke his nose. Stories of massive facial reconstruction are untrue.

Lucas himself has said that the scene did not exist for this reason.

I guess we will never know the truth though. Who to believe??

You know, the more I look at this commentary-doco style, the more I think the ROTJ resources warrant a proper, straight forward documentary. I would love to tackle it to be honest. I have made a couple of straight documentaries in the past and to do one on a subject that I love would be great.

The only problem with a straight documentary would be the inability to show so much detail. It would however, have a much broader appeal than say 'Building Empire', which clearly caters for those of us that have watched the film many, many times.

Just thinking aloud.

BTW, I managed to get another three hours of work in yesterday. Things are shaping up.

***//BUILDING EMPIRE\\: PAL & NTSC DVD - NEW EDITION NOW ONLINE! ***
Time
Just a quick one to mention another mention for 'Building Empire' along with Garrett's excellent 'Deleted Magic' on T-Bone's Site.

I particularly like the last paragraph. But just for the record, I am over 29, married with a kid and work as a freelancer. This gives me lots of free time whilst still earning lots of money (well, enough anyway). Otherwise, Building Empire would not exist.

I have also added a VERY long overdue credits list for 'Building Empire' (it's not quite complete yet, but the bulk of it is there). You can read it over at my blog.

Rather appropriate since it is a cover for the Special Edition DVD set (plus bonus discs).

Ha ha! Whoops! I really should take my own advice and read the thread! As soon as I saw Moth3r mentioned I obviously got confused!

I am back of to my dark cave...

If there's any sequences that are particularly troubling, give me a PM and I'll see what dirt I can dig up on them. I think text commentary is better than nothing at all, and I'd hate to see you cut stuff out. Drop me a line- it's worth a shot.

Thanks for the offer Brimley. I am going to try my hardest to keep the whole film in there, I did it with Empire, I am sure with some hard graft that I can do it with Jedi. I just lose motivation sometimes. So it's good to hear that there are some eager fans awaiting this project. There is sooooo much information out there and probably enough in the 'Davdar Archives

If in the meatime you can dig up any interviews with minor cast members with relevant quotes, I would be grateful if you could contact me. I am also desperately trying to get hold of the OT version of 'Time and Again'. Unfortunately the one I mamaged to source was the PT version! Boo!

UPDATE:

- The Sandstorm sequence is complete. With use of all available stills and additional sound effects.
- Today I partially re-edited the Sail Barge Battle to fit the alternative John Williams track
- The main menu is complete
- DVD-ROM extras will be compromised to make sure that everything else fits on the disc in the best quality I can manage.
- Some VERY rare footage should be winging it's way to me very soon - I hope!
- An interview with a Jabba and Yoda puppeteer is in the pipeline
- Many old magazines have be trawled and LOTS of interviews have been found for use a 'text facts'
- Crawls from two drafts have been re-created
- A reconstructed scene or two are in the pipeline!
- Despite all this, things are moving slowly!

Thanks to the 10 people who have filled in the survery so far.

Sorry, it was totally my mistake where question 3 is concerned. I meant to allow people to tick more than one option. For now, just tick 'other' and write the rest of your answer there, thanks.

Some interesting stuff coming out. There seem to be several people who want me to cut out any scenes that aren't augmented with any extras. I had thought about doing this as it's hard to find enough stuff to fill the gaps. The behind the scenes stuff is so heavy on Jabba and the Ewoks!

This project is proving far more challenging than 'Building Empire'.

Although I was annoyed with the comments Mr McCallum made, this thread wasn't started so that people could spout abuse and profanity at him. It was posted so that we could start, or indeed continue a discussion on the relationship McCallum has with Lucas and the Star Wars fans. Perhaps Rick has gone a step too far this time, but I don't think there is any need to get personal and stoop lower than his new level.

Thanks for everyone who made a valid comment. I think we can end things here, before we get carried away.
