I am so stoked about this one.

( crossing my fingers for an NTSC version http://209.85.12.227/2087/182/emo/51.gif )

Its pretty cool to have so much interest around this, I can tell you. There is still so much to do and so little time to work on it. I really hope that a copy of 'Time & Again' can be arranged. THX is doing a great job on that for me. I am still waiting on some raw footage from a guy that owns a very interesting (read -deleted) item and within a couple of weeks I "should" have some footage of the Yuma set that has hardly ever been seen before!

I have been adding to the commentary track from a number of official sources and hope to get some more rarer sources in the coming weeks.

The October release date is getting close and I really do hope to have it out by the 31st. But things are a little out of my hands at the moment. It might have to be revised a little

Oh and by the way Will, I am only really using the Radio Drama for research purposes at present. I will not be including it on the disc as I am optimising space for the main doco.

Thanks for those links Big Blue Rig. I will be sure to take a look.

Ha ha. Oh well. I have resigned myself to this inevitability.

Looking at this guy's history, he has already sold a couple of copies of 'Building Empire'. I guess £3.99 is a bit more realistic for non-profit making. But as I've said, I just don't like the idea of my disc changing hands for any kind of money.

It's a shame that he is using that mock-up cover that I made in about 5 minutes. And all the other picture links are dead. Looking at the dead links does reveal some clues. Perhaps a name?

I wonder if this is the same guy again. I noticed that they became ebay members within 3 days of eachother.

Thanks for the heads up boba feta.

£2.50 was a very generous estimate, it's probably more like £1.50 He is also charging a further £2.00 for postage on an item that will cost less that £0.80p to post. So lets say he makes £3.20 on each disk.

Given that he has an ebay rating of 102 every transaction than can be viewed is for the Deleted Magic disk. Thats £3.20 x 100. That's a profit of £320. Thats $596. Not bad for a student or somebody who needs a little spare cash.

Besides, this is a thing of principal. Nobody should be making any money on these discs. Plain and simple. But I guess this is a certain amount of inescapable inevitability.

I think that would be down the end of a very long road. I would love to tackle it actually and it has crossed my mind several times.

Given that I have the raw files of 'Building Empire', 'Returning to Jedi' and 'My Secret Project' on my hard discs, space might be the biggest set-back! I also wouldn't want to upset Ocp. I am sure my version would have it's differences though. We'll see.

I bet he doesn't even realise that Jambe was the one who emailed him!
What he's doing is not on.

I just got another message via ebay from a different user saying:

"By the way. Nice to meet you Jambe."

I think it's the same guy. Looking at his history he has sold the Holiday Special on DVD.

So, definitely an OT.com member or viewer.

I think it's time you revealed yourself mate. Though I doubt you will somehow.

I got a reply from the dude selling Deleted Magic and Building Empire:

"These dvds are not copyrighted. They are freely available for public distribution as they are a fan created documentary. The creators of such works actually encourage distribution of said documentaries through 'pay it forward' selling. I.E. Selling to someone who hasn't the resources to download, burn, and print the covers themselves, and so, charging them a reasonable fee for the cost of production.

I am not making a profit from these disks. It costs a small fortune for the packaging, ink, disks, equipment and electricity to make these disks. I am simply distributing the disks as much as possible within the Star Wars community, giving the documentary as much exposure as possible, which is what the creators want."

Opinions please.

I'm eagerly awaiting to see how the PAL release of the OUT comes out, but am determined that a glitch free version of ANH will be done, and if Lucasfilm won't step up to the plate....

I have had a sneek peek at the PAL OUT DVD and I was not as dissappointed as I thought I would be. There is a fair amount of telecine wobble, and of course the film dirt and scratches remain, but overall I was pretty pleased given lack of attention Lucasfilm have given this release. I will take a closer look on the 12th!

I have just had a look and you can report unauthorised copies

here

All you need do it type the item number in the first field and express you concern in the second field.

Lets face it we would all like to make some money on the side, but this isn't the way to go about it!

If you feel the same then please take the time to contact ebay.

Yesterday I contacted a guy that was selling Deleted Magic on ebay asking him what other titles he has for sale (out of interest you understand. I would nenver buy a 'bootleg')

As expected, the reply contained something interesting:
---------------
I will be selling Building Empire VERY soon. I am in the process of securing cover and disk art, and once I do, it will be on sale. Keep a look out at my items, rest assured, the wait won't be long.

Thanks for your question, and may the force be with you.

Cheeky bugger!!
----------------
My question is, what shall I do now? Report him to ebay? Bombard him with emails? Ask for a cut? (joking)

It just annoys me that he/she is making money out of other people's work without even giving credit to anyone.

Grrr

(I just remembered reading somewhere the explanation of Luke's green-coloured lightsabre aboard the Falcon. Apparently, the lightsabre is set to "training mode" - presumably to stop him from accidently slicing off parts of his own anatomy during his practice sessions.)

I actually assumed that as a kid. It just seemed to make sense to me. "Why else would he be waving that thing around in a space ship?", I used to think to myself.

Calling all Star Wars fans!

I am still looking to obtain a copy of MSNBC's Time & Again.

The programme takes a look at the Original Trilogy. I think it was originally broadcast in 2000, but has been shown since as I have a partially recorded copy (recorded by my sister with a very dodgy aerial signal).

It actually contains some behind the scenes footage that I have never seen anywhere else before, including, someone trying to perfect the Gammorean walk without the suit on. And more footage of Lucas discussing Sy Snootles with the creature shop people. Additionally there are several interviews that could easily be implemented as commentary tracks given the right editing. It's such a resourceful show, it would be a shame not to include it in my project.

I did recently think I had tracked down a copy but unfortunately it was another episode that looked at the Phantom Menace.

So if anybody has it, I would love to get a copy!

Thanks
JD

It's posts like this that leave me wondering what we are doing in this place. Whilst brilliantly funny at times, some posts just scare the crap out of me.

1. They are only FILMS. I know this may sound patronising to some. But lets just get a handle on this!
2. George Lucas is the boss regardless of what some may think.
3. Seriously consider what you are saying, before you say it!
4. Obsession can be dangerous. I do what I do out of a love for the films, an interest in the FILMS. That is as far as I will ever take it.
5. Blimey, I need a break from all this.
6. I am going to find a quiet corner

Star Wars: Return of the Jedi recut ending

I have to say that I didn't like this at all. In fact it left me rather cold.

I'm not a fan of 'Prequelizing' the OT, and this attempt, although bold, didn't really work on either an emotional or technical level for me.

Perhaps the editor should have conformed to one of the film conventions for flash-back sequences by at least doing a bleach pass on the PT footage to make it look different enough to draw the viewer's attention.

Also, it might have worked better if the viewer was able to see more than a flash of the PT footage, though this may have required some clever editing of the sound, as well as the pictures.

Unfortunately it just reminded that rather than making clever links between the PT and OT, Lucas simply re-cycled ideas.

As always though - thanks for posting!
