I used an HDR source and a non-HDR output. I haven’t fixed it yet. I’m also not a huge fan of the over-saturated look of Abrams’ films… the red sky when the New Republic is destroyed looks like the ending of Joss Whedon’s Justice League.

Honestly, if I knew what a Gungan ship would be, or knew of someone who’s mocked up a cockpit and Jar Jar to be in it, I would add it to my cut. Poor guy gets way more hate than he deserves.

I feel compelled to point out that in earlier cuts, the reason Lando was the person who went with Luke is because the First Order (or, rather, what they’d later find out was the First Order) had taken Lando’s daughter; Pasana is where the trail went cold, and so that’s where he stayed, trying to find more leads and find peace for the next ten or so years, and joining the local community. This is retained in the novelization and visual dictionary.

As always, I’ll maintain that most of the problems in this movie have to do with JJ Abrams extremely attention-deficit editing style.

Maybe it’s worth creating some dialogue where Lando mentions his daughter here then… could take some of his dialogue from his conversation with Jannah and some of Rey’s or Poe’s dialogue from… I don’t know where, all they have to ask is “why?”

Him asking them to send Leia a message contradicts the idea of him being in contact with her more than assuming friends and compatriots in a war would find out where to go after she died.

I don’t really have a problem with Lando’s scene in the desert. Cutting it makes Lando’s appearance even more random, and it contains some important exposition about the hunt for Ochi.

I felt like the implication was “Leia told me you were swinging by” more than “she told me to meet you, and that’s how I got here way before you did and found a way to blend into the culture when she only realised you were coming here right before you set off.”

I never once thought Lando had just stayed on Pasaana for 30 years. I assumed he was either back for the festival or some reason

It’s just kinda left as “I was helping him look” and he is still there. There’s no “I came back for the festival” or “Leia mentioned you were picking up Luke’s search” or any sort of logical connection to why he’s there.

For what it is worth, I am not in favor of this change. I like the Lando introduction and his exchange about sending Leia his love. Sure it is overly nostalgic and perhaps interrupts the pacing a tad, but without this scene then Lando is definitely nothing more than a glorified cameo in my opinion.

Added Across the Stars to the ending celebration scene in place of Yoda’s Theme. Hopefully this makes Poe and Finn’s embrace seem more romantic.

I slid the Han/Leia romance theme from Lando/Jannah’s scene over to Poe and Finn’s embrace, and added Poe’s line (originally to Zorri) “Can I kiss you?” And his flirtatious head motions to it. Full on StormPilot.

That might be why I kept it… I had a feeling I didn’t chop it for a reason… maybe add that line to the last shot of Jannah when they’re talking at the end? 😂

FINALLY!!! I was told never to bring it up again, and I’ve had so many arguments online about that ship. You’re the only person whos agreed with me! I found several ways to play that scene out but I think I’ve picked the best one where it now looks like Kylo is coming from one side and the TIEs are coming from the other to pin them in. Rey loses control because of fear now, which gives Kylo the upper hand. 😃

That’s an idea, to make it like multiple TIEs, I feel like I’d need a shot of First to Final Order pilot to really sell it… but it’s a thought for sure!

Your version sounds fine, but I think the issue is that Hal wanted to use the extended jump without TIEs that skenera and poppasketti worked on. I think ya’ll are probably looking for something more like this with the audio:

Is there a consensus about whether to move the first Falcon sequence to between “I’ll earn your brother’s saber” and “the Falcon’s back”?

I think the difficulty is we no longer have an opening shot from space to end the crawl on. All 9 films start with a ship travelling by or to a planet in space.

Yeah, I just found there were too many coincidences so removing Lando and Ochi at that point makes it feel a little more accidental and poignant when Rey sees ochis ship

I’ve worked on this scene so much and I even found a way to remove Lando, ochi and the dagger up until Rey picks the dagger up in Kylos quarters. Then Landos intro can either be at the base or in the falcon cavalry. It does take a large chunk of the movie out though.

If you wanted to be more conservative, you could just cut the scene with Lando, going from running from the Trooper Lando would have shot, to them stealing the speeders. There isn’t a lot of new information in that scene, other than explaining why Lando is there. Rey already knew Luke was tracking Ochi to Pasaana, how much more she knows from his journals is up to interpretation.
