I did a search and didn't see it mentioned, but on the battle of Hoth, in a few scenes the wing flaps on the snow speeders open on the wrong side of the craft for the direction they are going.  The best example is around 28:21 (after the AT-AT "commander" (?) pulls down the viewfinder), where the left flaps opens and the speeders go right.

Having played Rogue Squadron years ago and from watching the majority of the speeders, they get the flaps right, but a few of them are off.  If you increase air resistance on one side, you will pivot to that side.  A majority of the changes people have listed would have escaped me, but this stood out for some reason.

Awesome job Adywan and everyone else for all the work and releases so far.

I'm not sure on how much detail Ady will be adjusting the wing flaps in those scenes, the main issue with them was that the animated scaled models had operational flaps whereas the full scaled props with actors were static.

Adywan had hinted that he was going to try and match the live action shots to the model shots.........don't know if he was going to adjust the scenes to the laws of physics, but i'd be happy if the models & live action were to blend.

At the minute the PT doesn't exist in my head, I've divorced myself from it and most of the SE material..........(bit like Alien3 & Alien Resurrection.........Jaws 3 & Jaws the Revenge) They are poor sequels that have tainted the originals.

The Original Trilogy.............(and of course Adys SW:R)

I'm sorry, I must say I could just plainly see that it was a slowed down footage as the movement looked very unnatural. Whenever you've got a movement captured on film, it creates a corresponding motion blur, the faster the movement, the more blur, now, when you slow down a footage of a fast moving object, the motion blur is too much for the slower movement, so even if you use some kind of frame interpolation technology to avoid repeating frames, the movement will always look unnatural. I think the only way to do this convicingly would be to actually shoot someone in a Vader costume...

I agree Harmy, the section I slowed down to fill that section was slowed to about 30%, it doesn't look right, gonna try it again maybe put in an Imperial officer (Commander)

@Mr J: I was wondering if you can play with vader movements in ANH.

A few examples are when he interrogates The rebel dude in tantive he turns his head way to fast for ESB vader standards. As well in the next shots that he is yelling he is moving too fast. Considering the fact making him less like a coffee freak and more as a lord we know in ESB many of his moving can be slowed down. No idea if this can work.

-Angel and Blue

Had a go at it, to make it work it required stretching a particular shot......quite a bit.........Prowse really doesn't stay still long......I was able to frame blend it so it doesn't look too bad.

Yeah Angel (& Blue), it's as though in ANH Prowse was really trying trying to make his mark, hamming it up, being all dramatic and.......overdooing it.

As everyone knows Lucas isn't great at directing people, so i would say Vader's coolness in ESB came from Prowse's own observations or the change in director....dunno.

I'll give it a go.

Thanks Angel,

The Vader scene I only just noticed was a bit daft, yunno, all of us here have seen these movies countless times, but when reviewing that scene it just sounds like its from a B'movie.

Like he's gonna say that out loud.

The Death Star explosion is just a bit of fun, The original explosion is a bit week, the SE explosion is straight from another Sci-Fi movie series, my one is a bit more like a huge mechanical thing just blew up, I might try it with a few Star Destroyers around it.

I'm not taking things personally, Ady's work is fantastic and as far as I am concerned, flawless, he makes his decisions carefully and I respect that.

This thread has been created so that Adywan can get feedback of the changes he feels are needed and also to hear suggestions of further changes that his supporters may have thought of.

While I respect the work and research being done on the socks, perhaps the discussion belongs in another thread such as the ESB/ROTJ wishlist?

R2's "socks" don't bother me. I didn't remove them in ANH:R so i won't be in this one too.

Yes i do agree with you Mr.Frenk, but If you remember Ady did say that he had no intention to add 'Air-brakes' or as most people affectionately call them 'flaps' to the Snowspeeders, until I made a video mock-up, which made him change his mind......He sometimes does change his mind.

I'll post the mock-up and that will be the end of the subject.

& for a change around here this is on topic

I've had a quick scan through ESB and all shots of R2 standing on two legs with Mr.Baker acting are shot in a way to hide the 'socks'.

He's either shot from above middle, his feet has a tree stump in foreground or whilst watching the x-wing sink has dry-ice disguising the copex.

The only shot you see the signs of Kenny's legs are at the Finale of the movie.

ANH has quite a few scenes, dunno bout ROTJ.

I'm gonna do a wee mock-up to see how the scene goes.

While I was doing some Kenny 'sock' research I noticed a part of R2's foot breaks off when he crashes to the bouncy ground after being dropped by Luke.

This part springs off

Here's the sequence

^ This grab from the next scene shows he's OK again,

I'm not suggesting it needs fixed,...just showing the results of dropping a R2 unit. (Hope Kenny wasn't in there!!!)

By R2's socks, are you asking if he should be lowered closer to the floor? I would imagine such a thing wouldn't be too hard to accomplish.

By R2's socks I meant the copex tubing used to disguise Kenny Bakers legs going into R2's feet.

Doesn't appear too many times in ESB, but can be seen in almost every movie (perhaps not in ROTS as they used a CG R2 frequently)

Don't know if Ady has this on his list, but every time I see it I know its Kenny in the can.

I use Photoshop to edit images, I use a graphics tablet If I want to be precise, but for this & the 'That's all folks', I used the mouse-pad on the Mac-Book, thats why it looks rough.

A very interesting article with Gary Kurtz:

Good find RL, also some nice links 'highlighted in blue'.

Not a bit off topic (it covers the entire series, even the [cough....splutter] prequels)

Empire really is "GOLD" in comparison to the excrement that followed, it's a pity that Kurtz had no involvement from thereafter.

damez2000 says:

I gave this edit a low rating because it was almost the same as the original. Sure, many good effects were put in such as adding extra tie fighters and making the lightsaber blue instead of a greenish tint. But, it wasnt enough to warrant a rating over 5 stars. The changes seemed to be merely touch-ups to the original.

The audio was good. The video was good. The cuts were seamless. I just dont think there was enough work put in to give more than 5 stars. A good example of a great edit would be Terminator 3: The coming storm, done by Uncanny Antman. Im a huuggge star wars fan and this didnt cut it for me. If the star rating is based on my opinion and liking of the edit, then I did what was asked of me.

For a huuggge Star Wars fan, he mustn't have paid much attention to the original movie or to Ady's edit, if all he noticed were a few tie fighters & 'touch-ups'.

It's quite sad really that this poor person doesn't really know what he's talking about.
