A New direction for Lucasfilm Animation

Here's a dumb question, is Star Wars making enough money? The movies will be huge naturally, but is the ancillary stuff in trouble? I recently heard that the merchandising from Episode I 3D last year was the biggest retail disaster in the history of star wars merchandise (and the clone wars toys and ratings took a major hit even before that). Maybe disney is just taking a hard look at the numbers of everything that isn't a movie.

I really hope that Disney is taking a fresh look at what the general public think of what is Star Wars,....it's not the Clone Wars or Jedi & Sith....what everyone knows as Star Wars is the OT.

Focus on that....Rebels, Scoundrels, Empire & Bounty hunters=$ & £

Lucas has been sanctioning the prequel era stuff, I think Disney realises theres bigger money to be made elsewhere

What do you want for the future of Star Wars?

Welcome 'Hey, it's me'

The style of the Original films is a must, and with the general consensus Disney should know that it would be a mistake to not to go in that direction.

As far as enemies go....would it not be an idea to follow history.

The Empire's style is based on Nazi Germany, how about the new enemy being one of the allies who fought during the Rebellion, the Mon Cal for example?

the last scene is him and Chewie going into hyperdrive in the Falcon and landing on Tattooine.

If you lead right up to Episode IV, then how would you explain Han looking so different? Assuming he meets Luke shortly after landing on Tattooine.

To explain the different appearences there should probably be at least  a few years between the spinoff and Episode Iv.

Talking of different actors playing the same character, how about Wedge.....

......and that was in the same movie

And the Rutger Hauer like guy replaced in the next shot:

Hmmm

Besides, OT too have more villains. In Hope Tarkin is the main villain. In Empire it is Vader. And in Jedi it is the Emperor.

But in all the one sheets of SW the largest character depicted....the villain....isn't Tarkin, also the original Palitoy toys.....there was no Tarkin....hmmm

Oh & Bingo, I think making Leia turn to the Dark Side would be worse than if she were now a Jedi.....really the less the original cast play a part in this film the better, I hope their parts are as little as Sir Alec's & Cushing's are in the original film......new Trilogy, new start, I can't imagine Disney considering using the original cast beyond Ep7, (apart from perhaps Hamill) they'll likely be there to bridge the gap.

Exactly Bingo, Dave seems to get a lot of slagging for his role.

David Prowse was the actor who was Darth Vader, the power of his stride & screen presence in Star Wars & Empire Strikes Back were essential in creating the character, the VO of James Earl Jones and the mechanical breathing were the finishing touches to make Darth Vader the top Screen Villian.

JEJ didn't think his VO deserved a mention in the end credits of SW

Re: Kenny Baker and Anthony Daniels... there's a show called "Bring Back Star Wars" that came out 4 or 5 years ago.  Basically, this guy tries to put together a reunion of Star Wars actors.  It's true, apparently Baker and Daniels despise each other.  The whole show is on youtube, definitely worth a watch.

Yeah Justin Lee Collins did a few 'Bring Back' shows (A Team was good), I remember JLC running in to Dave Prowse in Soho......"raise eyebrow"

When Luke leaves to save his friends, Ben tells Yoda, “That boy was our last hope.”  To which Yoda replies, “No, there is another.”  You eventually find out in Episode VI that Leia is the other hope to which Yoda refers.  Soooo, Ben forgot that Padme gave birth to twins?  He seems to remember that when telling Luke about it in Return of the Jedi, so why doesn’t he know this in Empire Strikes Back?  A conundrum…….

The 'other' is implied in ESB to be another potential Jedi hope, but in retrospect if you think of the way that the trilogy played out, Leia could be just the person being the other offspring of Vader to make him see the errors of his ways.....no force needed.

There's really no-one else in the universe fitted for that role.

.........It was this special edition negative that was scanned completely in 2004 to create the high def masters for DVD and Blu Ray.

As far as I understand Lowry were handed the 2k files of the 97SE versions, which they were expected to clean up.

Yes that is correct.

.......This 2004 article that coincided with DVD release states explicitily that it was the special edition negative that was scanned(and not the 1977 o-neg)---therby implying that there is a physical distinction between the negatives of 1977 and 1997.

Interestingly, the negatives that were scanned were not those of the original releases but of the 1997 Special Edition reissues, because of their additional effects sequences (more of which are said to have been added in the DVD releases). Defects such as dirt and scratches from the original negative, then, had made their way through to the 1997 negative

An interview with Lowry:

Did George Lucas actually let you borrow the original camera negatives of his Star Warsfilms to do your high-resolution scan for the restoration? No. We sent one of our 6-terabyte servers up to Skywalker Ranch in San Rafael , California, where they loaded it with full RGB [red, green, and blue] data without having to go through the component output that tape masters would demand. We processed those images, cleaned them up, and sent them back in little packages of discs. The net result was that we never lost a bit in the process of moving all the data back and forth, and we were able to work on full high-definition-bandwidth imagery. It was an unusual approach, but we got some pretty stunning results.

So the Star Wars films were processed at high-def, but not at the 4K level - four times high-def resolution - that you've been using for some other films? At high-def, yes.

So......Lowry did not scan any negatives.....he was given data

So what do you guys think about this:
http://geektyrant.com/news/2013/2/14/ewan-mcgregors-obi-wan-spin-off-star-wars-movie-idea.html/

I think if done right it could be quite cool. Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan was one of the best (or more like least embarrassing) parts of the PT and with a good script this could be a cool SW western :-)

I'm fed up with the Jedi's because of the Prequels, I'm hoping that the spin-offs would involve smugglers & bounty hunters rather than humourless swordsmen......but.....if done right I'd prefer to see Obi-Wan struggling to keep the remaining Jedi alive than see a Yoda movie.......dull
