Star Wars prequels were mapped out in 1981, only nothing like the way they turned out

We've known a lot of that stuff long before the prequels came out. But what was the source for it? For years I had my Return of the Jedi Luke Skywalker action figure playing the role of Anakin fighting my Obi-Wan figure on sofa cushions that served as the cliff of a volcano. I've known this was Anakin's fate and what made him Darth Vader for as long as I can remember, since before I had any exposure to the EU, but why did I know this? Wasn't it in the Return of the Jedi novelization or something?

Not sure, I think it might have been said by Lucas before ESB, I think I remember when you saw the back of Vader's scarred head in ESB, everyone had heard how that happened........hmmmm

Interesting to just how different his plans were back then. It also destroys the argument of the prequel fans that they were planned out that way all along ( i bet they're going to love that ;) ).

ANYONE can learn to use the force if they are prepared to learn.

The Jedi/Sith is described as a Religion by Han & Motti, which would imply that in SW anyone could be a 'Believer'

It is a pity, a real downright pity that the Prequels turned out the way they did, my way of looking at them is the same way I regard the crap Superman (3&4), Jaws (3&4) & Alien (3&4) sequels.....they don't exist to me

^ I totally agree with you CP3S, Disney has stepped in and halted production of Prequel related projects and are refocussing on what made Star Wars successful.....to make them money........cause thats where the mainstream fans are, myself included......with all the good things the folks here say about the CW cartoon I've tried & tried to get into it but it doesn't hold my attention.

This video does suggest the creative team are in the right head space to make this good. Shame it's not gonna be drawn instead of CG but still.

It would be cool if the x-wings looked liked the RM concept versions.

I'm a big fan of Ralph, it would be cool if an early YT (Falcon) would make an appearance, this is one I'm making:

General Star Wars Random Thoughts Thread

My point was, it doesn't bother me about the Sith, when I was a kid of 9 years old in 1977 & all the information a kid could get of Star Wars was what was given to you, Snaggletooth, R5-D4, Power Droid, X-Wing Fighters, Star Destroyers, Y-Wings,......all these ships, vehicles.....aliens & people....their names weren't mentioned in the film....along with that was Darth Vader Dark Lord of the Sith

It made perfect sense to name the Dark Force users Sith in the Prequels (about the only thing that did)

A New direction for Lucasfilm Animation

That's why I'm saying that I think Disney wants to put the Star Wars Franchise back in the mainstream arena, not just for kids...or diehard fans...think of the Marvel Films & the success of those movies.

At the minute the only Star Wars productions are being made for a specific audience, it is unfortunate and wrong to abruptly end the series, but I think Disney feels that it could spend its money on something that would attract a bigger audience

Let's be honest, the prequels were bad (from our perspective) but they still made astronomical amount of money. It is quite naive to assume that today's general public and kids are after qualities of OT. Disney sure isn't after satisfying a few of us "old timers" with good taste in films. They are after money and they will make the films in a way to follow the today's trends and to appeal for the wider audience.

Yep, I agree, they made a lot of money, but Star Wars has got itself into a niche market, it's not mainstream anymore, I've got 2 kids one 13 and one 6, the 13year old had a lot of the figures & ships at the time, but they're in the attic....the 6year old is into Pixar Cars, Toy Story...all the current stuff....Star Wars doesn't come into it, I've tried the Clone Wars cartoon, but that doesn't hold his attention....it's too boring & nerdy.....his words

Disney wants the gold
