I like The Thrawn trilogy and Duology the most, the rest of his EU stuff is okay if you forget the prequelisms. The Disney stuff is solid writing but boring as hell without a Luke Skywalker, or Mara Jade.
The original arc of the trilogy and duology are almost perfect. Except for the invaders hinted at beyond the galaxies that turned out to be the Vong. Hated Thrawn and Palpatine being turned into the good guys. Hated Mara saying she didn’t believe the emperor reborn was Palpatine, that was Zahn taking a shot of Veitch.
Don’t care for in the trilogy how it is described Palpatine used the force to give strength to the Imperial Navy and after his death how they were routed. Too lord of the rings and Sauron.
The VHS Faces Cassettes, yeah all i could afford was the pan and scan not the more ritzy widescreen boxed set. And i had the earlier non THX Star Wars set, which i preferred to watch Star Wars on because the 1995 release had the smashing glass in the detention block which i never liked. The one i watched the most on tv and on tape was the 85 sound mix.
I didn’t get a laserdisc player or the definitive collection til around 2005. About ten years too late for it to mean anything but by that time they were cheap enough. Then i got some of the fan made DVDs and the rest is history. All the way up to the release of the GOUT DVD’s and 4K77 hitting the net. Buying the awful Disney 2020 4K Special Edition watching it once and putting it on the shelf.
He had a lot more legends stories planned as well. More Thrawn, Mara and Talon Karrde. But of course Disney had the EU shelved and rebooted. And his new stuff is tailored to the Disney verse. Boring and uninteresting and political. Chiss politics. Imperial politics. Couldn’t finish Thrawn Treason. Don’t care for Disney Thrawn either. Not in Rebels, Not in the novels. Don’t care if he is in live action. He was slightly less unbearable in that comic Marvel made. Only because of its brevity.
The Nolan Batman trilogy is overrated. And Batman 89 and Batman Returns are underrated. I used to believe the opposite but Batman begins hasn’t aged all that well IMHO. Nor has Rises. I will say i still view Dark Knight as almost flawless except for Aaron Eckhart’s Two Face. Bale is just okay in it, Ledger plays Joker to the hilt.
I already got the last go round of 4Ks on sale for cheap. No OOT is a nope.
Disney did the MASH HD remasters.
I would keep it basically the same. But have his turn to the darkside not be about learn the dark side to save Padme. Would require a total rewrite of the prequels. He would be a moisture farmer on Tatooine who gives up his farming to join Obi Wan on a damn fool idealistic crusade joining the Clone Wars. Obi Wan recruits him sensing a he has a gift for the force. Obi Wan is a general in the republic. The Enemy is clone masters and Mandalorians not Jango Clones fighting trade federation. Anakin is a great starpilot and a cunning warrior, and a good friend. He is slowly seduced to evil and a descent into madness. There is no Qui-Gon, we see Vader in the suit destroying the Jedi Temple but we aren’t sure who he is. Obi Wan thinks he killed him over the volcano they dueled over.
I’d keep Padme basically the same but have her actually be a character with something to do in II and III. She would help surviving Jedi escape the Purge, be a senator and one of the founding members of the rebel alliance. She does this in secret because she knows Anakin sees it as treason and a betrayal of his mentor the President of the Republic former Senator Palpatine.
She’s doesn’t die til later on Alderaan when Leia is very young. She is one of Queen Breha’s handmaidens to be close to Leia until she dies somehow?
I think it is like the Star Trek situation they want to spend money on new shows instead of remastering old ones. Probably put their money into a Buffy remake.
I like the opera scene. and how slick and evil Palpatine is. Still not sold on choose the dark side to save Padme. The movie needed something else for Anakin’s turn.
Worst aspect other than the out of place slapstick comedy, or cartoon cgi graphics are the lightsaber duels, or lack of them.
Wish they had done the battle of the heroes more like Empire’s fight except with the Jedi in their prime. And i wanted Mace to duel Anakin.
A one note character who represents hate. Who is dispatched easily by Obi Wan. Even less of a character than Boba was in the OT. Boba existed to get Han to Jabba, Maul existed to be killed by Obi-Wan and to kill Qui-Gon.
Was he a better character in Rebels and Clone Wars debatable but that character isn’t the same Maul.
I want the theatrical versions. Yes even for the prequels. Always had a soft spot for episode 1, no not the awful derided parts. The enjoyable ones.
You know i watched a bit of TNG remastered even the season 1 has a certain charm, No it isn’t the best but it is recognizably Star Trek. But yeah the design is dated 80s. But it is obviously of the same family as TOS and TMP.
I don’t recognize these characters in the CBS/Paramount post 2005 period of Trek.
I just got the making of Star Trek First Contact. Haven’t started it yet, i’m waiting for the making of Wrath of Khan which keeps getting delayed. The best making of the Star Trek film books is Return to Tomorrow, the filming of TMP. But it would have been better as an official book with photos and editing.
I think this will be my ranking but who knows.
1.Raiders
2.Doom
3.Skull
4.Dial Of Destiny
5.Last Crusade
I kind of like Treasure of the Peacock’s eye but not sure where it should be in the list.
Edit: loved the trailer for Dial of Destiny they showed with the Super Bowl, unironically its going to be great. Should be a thread here on the film but there isn’t one.
I’m still waiting for the vinyl release of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. I’m hoping the new 5th Indiana Jones movie will get them to release that, who knows about the Star Wars films since they went about recreating the original albums instead. But didn’t use the original album masters. I don’t care for the remixes, the hiss removal and the new vinyl reissues are not better than the original pressing for the OT.
The remastered Episode II and III are better than their original release though and finally on vinyl.
Complete OT isn’t available. Even if you have the rare lapti nek single vinyl, the arista box and the special edition CD there are the other versions of Yub Yub that Rinzler put out for instance which aren’t on any release.
The Last Jedi version of Luke when he is acting like a kid and throws his lightsaber. Yeah he is redeemed from this later in the movie and it obviously is a hard rejection of the call to adventure, but it is pretty annoying and out of character for Luke without context for what happened after Return of the Jedi and Force Awakens. I’d just as soon he handed it back to Rey, as in either his powers have grown to the level where he doesn’t need a lightsaber like Yoda or he is now a pacifist monk who won’t wield a weapon. He cannot effectively take up arms to fight the first order because he is beyond it. He isn’t able to anymore but Rey can.
I saw this video and didn’t even bother to leave a comment, it is so idiotic. A bad faith argument. And probably the worst take i’ve ever seen.
Nearly every other director with exceptions and studios for that matter do catalog releases of their films. Star Wars not being available to own is ridiculous.
The worst argument is the money, technology has advanced where if fans can restore 35mm prints for significantly less than what FOX spent on the Special Editions, Disney could easily restore the originals and it won’t cost millions. And they don’t even need to touch the negative if they restore from another source. Obviously not a release print. Fans resorted to that because they have nothing else.
Nobody is throwing rocks at George and saying he can’t have the 2020 Special Edition locked in as his final cut, what fans want is the movies they fell in love with and as they originally were released.
Little Mermaid has an AC3 Laserdisc. I don’t have that one it is the THX disc.
I figured Yoda was hiding on Dagobah with the darkside cave to mask his presence. I never once gave it thought about it being his world of origin.
But then again i never wondered who built Threepio either. Or how Boba was as a kid etc.
I actually quite like Moses Ingram after watching an interview with her. I don’t like this show at all though or Disney Star Wars. I think fans were very unfair to the actress that is all i will say.

Doesn’t George legally have final cut on the 6 films? If so it is up to him if the originals are released. He clearly doesn’t want them out there.
I mean it is strange because he didn’t direct Empire or Jedi. Even if by a certain point of view he George Lucas or Rick McCallum directed the Special Editions.
The best the film has ever looked on home video is the 4K. Any of the blu ray’s are fine for 1080P. I personally wish we had the theatrical cut on the 4K disc i don’t care for the added scenes.
I have the 35mm grindhouse and it is very soft looking. I don’t think we will ever have a version of the movie that is perfect. the digitally shot scenes like the midichlorian test stick out like a sore thumb.
I think they may have sharpened the blu or 4K but i’m not 100% sure. But it certainly is sharper looking in the scenes that aren’t dvnr waxy.
Marvel Epic Collection is reprinting Sith War. Though i’m looking forward to the reprint of Dark Lords of the Sith in the same volume more. Wish they had a book that just reprinted the Veitch Gossett run only. In hardback. At the time of Dark Lords Anderson hadn’t taken over.
