I agree, SSWR (sorry, your name is so long!). Introducing Luke in such a mundane way is going to undermine the pacing and structure of the movie, and totally ruin what is a pretty decent entrance at Jabba's Palace.

And usually when movie is edited about, you can see it a mile away. Anyone seen Hannibal recently? It's horrendously re-edited and totally destroys the original structure and introduction of Gary Oldman's character. He has several scenes where his face is hidden before he's finally revealed when Clarice visits him, but they ruined it by editing a later scene to be a prologue and you just see him full on. Not one of Ridley Scott's finest moments.

Legend is another one where the US version destroys the "big reveal". In the European and Directors versions Tim Curry is not actually revealed until 3/4 of the way into the movie, the rest of the time he's hidden, and his reveal coming out of the mirror is GIANT. But the US version just shows him in the first scene. Ridley Scott again.

Ridley Scott seems to have almost all his movies re-edited against his will, like a running gag. Blade Runner, the studio added that voiceover that both Scott and Harrison Ford hated (and it shows, Ford deliberately did it as badly as he could, hoping to get it cut), and Scott's intended cut didn't get to happen until the Final Cut a couple of years ago.

Same with Kingdom of Heaven, Scott's director's cut version is something like 45 minutes longer than the threatrical one that the studio had him release, and apparently (I've seen neither) the threatrical version is a very poor film, and Scott's version was either very good or downright excellent, depending on the person asked.

Not bad, he looks enough like him to get the idea across and he is a fun actor who could have given the role the necessary coldness.

Nobody seems to care that Ewan doesn't look or even sound exactly like a younger Sir Alec.

If they were serious about putting Tarkin in the prequels they should of written a role for him and hired someone like Nighy who could have played him without OTT make-up.

I don't think I agree with that part. They did a decent casting job there, he does have a lot of the same features as Alec Guiness did. As for sounding like him, I think McGregor really did try his best to be like Guiness in voice and "style" (actually, maybe a bit too much, I think it's reason his acting in the PT is stilted at times, especially in TPM, he was concentrating too much on being like Guiness).

Oh my...555 pages?

I think, other than the colour difference, they couldn't have a ROTJ screenshot in there because no mere screenshot could fully show the size of the lightsaber blades.

Which is everyone's favourite, of the six, by the way?

Heh, Luke's "tree" saber in ROTJ always amused me, I imagined him taking on swipe at Vader in their duel, and Vader being completely vaporised by it, with nothing left.

Actaully Angel, how the hell do you reduce the lightsaber like that?, I mean, I undestand how you change it to the new one, but when it's so big, how do you remove the light and keep the part of the scenery that it's blocking? Do you paste it in from an unobscured shot or whatnot?

That looks pretty cool. Geonosis has had a lot of concepts drawn up for it, making it a dark blue sort of colour, the yellow, Tatooine style, but I think the dark red would be best. It would't be a radical change, but just to make it more foreboding without overdoing it would be fine.

Actually, one thing I must ask, is there a comparison anywhere of the lighsabers from all six films? They change every film, I know, but a side by side would be helpful. I don't mean just screenshots from each film side by side, either, I mean like a fanmade six lightsbaer comparison, based on each of the films.

Question for everyone who's working on mockups, and for Adywan I suppose if he's around, I've not seen him comment on this issue, but what can be done about the Sarlaac?

It seems everyone (I certainly do) prefers the original, hole with teeth Sarlaac, not the beaked one. But the only source of ROTJ that still has the original Sarlaac would be the GOUT, right? Which is piss poor quality. I suppose there's always photoshop and after effects and all that to cut the beak out and restore the dark pit, but the beak is really "in there" as such, isn't it? It's huge, and it moves, and takes up a lot of the screen, and I'm just worried that replacing it fully might be imnpossible to do without looking fake. I know Angel could remove it from one screenshot in a flash, but in motion, and every frame of it would be a daunting task.

Thoughts?

P.S. I may be completely wrong in thinking it's a hard one to replace, I know nothing about photoshop, so correct me if I'm wrong.

You can't honestly expect them to show something like a vote from a Senate that big?

Actually that's exactly the kind of thing we have come to expect from Lucas LOL.

Well I don't know about just a vote on it's own being shown, but if the sequence consisted of all the senator's pods going up, them voting, and then showing their pods landing back in place, without cuts. Every single pod, of course.

Then I expect Lucas would have leapt at any chacne to cram it in the film.

I love seeing this thread so full of life, it was just crawling along before the other two "main" edit threads (ESB: R and Prequal Radical Redux threads) until recently, now I visit after two or three days and it's got five new pages of content.

I really can't wait for ROTJ: R, it's my most anticipated of any of the Revisited series, and these ideas and mockups will be a catalogue of great material by the time Adywan finishes ESB: R, plus wven when he's done, ROTJ will be ready for loads more fanedits to happen, with drastic changes. ROTJ has never really been done, has it? I mean, there's been a few fanedits, but never anything major. I know Adywan's PT : R trilogy will be brilliant, but there's been loads of PT edits, hundreds, and a lot of great ones, and there wll be great oens in the future, but ROTJ has never had such attention given to it before, and it is going to be aboslutely brilliant to see it restored, renovated (as such) and revived like this.

I cannot wait.

Someone there just suggested making Qui-Gon into Obi-Wan, I think that'd have to be shot down straight away. It would be impossible to restructure, since QUi-Gon dies at the end of TPM, and doesn't appear in either of the other two prequels. Plus you'd have this guy who looks a lot like Alec Guiness, and acts a fair bit like Alec Guiness, who is about the right age throughout the PT, but who is not Obi-Wan? Yeah, it just doesn't work, in any way, sorry.

Now, Maul and Greivous, it could work, though it's definitely limited to what you can change. Greivous needs a new voice and new dialogue, which is easy to replace since he has no visible mouth, so I think everyone, if they have the resources for a redub and rewrite, should experiment plenty with different concepts for him as a character.

Definitely i would love to see a Clone Wars version of him, says very little, very skilled, dangerous to everyone, and very competent, he was intimading and damn cool in that. In the film, he's a joke, a villain straight out of a 1980's toyline cartoon. Of course, it's hard to solve the issue of him always walking around instead of standing tall and still like he did a lot in CW, but his voice and dialgoue is easy to change to make him cool again. It doesn't require much change in concept either, just cut out any bungling and get a new script, and he's solved.

Now if you want to change his character's role, it might be tricky. I'm all for more mockups of him as Maul (actually I'm for more mockups period, I do love the mockups you people make :D), and even some video concepts. It could work, it would make Obi-Wan's defeat of him in ROTS a bigger deal, and give him a rival for the PT (sicne they apparently abandoned the idea of his rival being Jango halfway through AOTC). Ages ago someone mocked up recolouring Grevious to be red and black like Maul, with the tattoo design., I think everyone agreed it was too complicated to do, but some slight changes wouldn't go amiss (the eyes of coruse have to change).

And that's another overly long post from me done. I need an editor.

Yeah this is good, what I'd like to see, still very clean and sterile but also looks like a real set.

That glass tunnel picture you're all having shots at might be lost cause by default, ocne again from the god awful bluescreen job on Obi-Wan, which is one of the biggest problems in AOTC. Though maybe that's easily correctable, I don't know anything about this sort of thing. if it is, brilliant, because that would save a lot of shots in AOTC.

Um, Boba is Jango's CLONE. Meaning that they would have an identical voice. That's one change I agree with.

Since when are accents genetic?

I felt so sorry for Ewan McGregor in the Kamino scenes, he looks so uncomfortable on screen, clearly sitting on his own on set, talking to no one.

As for the "dirtying up" of Kamino, I disagree,I think it should be kept as a cold and sterile environment, maybe even made more so. however, I do think it should be the only one in the whole prequel trilogy to be like that, except for the obvious ones like Palpatine's office or whatnot (of course those would be super clean).

ANH and Alien, both out in the late seventies, were the films that really made the whole "used future" concept popular in sci-fi films. And it's really great in both films (and ESB/ROTJ, and the Alien sequels too), it makes the sets feel so real and tangible, live people really live in them. That was a big thing in the OT, and it just flew out the window for the PT. I think it needs to return, especially on Coruscent, which, just by the fact that it's a city planet, should be absolutely filthy apart from the likes of the Senate and the Temple. Same with the other plantets, they should have the used look as well (how about Naboo looks a bit more beat up, apart from the palace of course, it all looks a little too overly idyllic).

And then comes Kamino, which is exactly the "ultra white, clean, perfect future" that SW and Alien subverted in the first place, which would comes as a complete culture shock to the viewer, and perhaps give them a bit of apprehension about the place, which is what you want.

In conclusion to yet another way too long post of mine, I think instead of Kamino getting dirtied up, everywhere else in the PT should be dirited up instead, with Kamino being the unsettling exception.

I think the reason the reactor core version is preferred is because it's just a lot more "epic" a death for the big bad Emperor, even if it makes no sense at all. I think TV Tropes calls it the "Rule of Cool", instead of the Emperor of the galaxy being killed by Darth Rorshach Vader throwing him down a lift shaft and him exploding for some reason at the end, being thrown into the reactor core of his own giant battlestation is a much more "dignified" death.

Still, if you can't reconcile the two things coming together (almost nothing in SW makes sense really, it's science fantasy rather than sci-fi really), I guess a new matte and maybe a new reveal of the tower is in order.

P.S. For some reason, as a kid I never actually clicked that the Emperor's throne room was in a tower above the surface of the Death Star, I though it was just on the surface, so I never thought it didn't make sense that he fell to the reactor core (massive distance covered in too fast a time aside, my kid brain didn't consider that).

I know it's from a couple of pages ago, but about the Emperor's death, I think most people reckon he falls to the reactor core because of the whole "giant blue glowy explosion thing" that him falling onto the surface really wouldn't accomplish.

Also, I'm kida surprised at these screenshots of ROTJ, it seems to have aged way worse than I thought it had, and in dire need of a restoration. Then agian, that might just be the blue filter they had on 2004 DVDs making it look much worse than it should.

The lightsabers are definitely in dire need of a revamp, though, either way.

Perhaps the whole deal with the pit of death in the throne room is that it's unfinished, and oce it's finished construction, the Emporer will have a Bond villain style trapdoor over the pits, which he activates from his chair to drop unruly underlings (and his guards sometimes if he's bored) to "witness the power of of the fully armed and operational battlestation", for roughly 1/10th of a second before they get vaporized.

On a completely unrelated note, I always wanted my own version of the Emporer's chair as a kid, I thought it was the coolest chair ever. Still think it's pretty nifty looking.

I think the PT needs to be set up to mirror the OT, if that makes sense. In Episode 1, we should see a scenario similar to ANH, Clones should see the shit hit the fan, akin to ESB, and Revenge should see something similar to Jedi, if the Emperor had won.

Actually, that could be pretty cool for ROTS and ROTJ. Sort of like, you watch Episode 3, and think the good guys will win, but it all goes to hell unexpectantly, and that trilogy ends on a bad note. Then at the end of the next trilogy, the same situation has occured, only this time the light side manages to win, after failing once, and we get the happy ending.

I know this is already what we get, but some structure and tone changes to make this sort of an evident theme would be good. ROTS and ROTJ are both in need of a shake-up, anyway (in terms of structure).

Glad to see this thread has really revived in the last few weeks, it was really slow going for while.

ROTJ might just be the most exciting of the whole series to see edited up. ANH and ESB are just polishing up masterpieces, after all, and the prequels will just be very different to see changed. ROTJ's changes are shaping up (provided some of these big ideas are both feasible and used) to be spectacular.

He may do that, he did it with the Ben/Vader fight in Star Wars. There's nothing wrong with the duels as such, just that the prequels had much better choreography and they make them look a little pedestrian.

I disagree. Aside from a few shots in Duel of the Fates, the PT lightsabre duels look contrived, rehearsed, and choreographed. Of course, that's because the duels in all of the Star Wars movies are in fact contrived, rehearsed, and choreographed, but the OT duels (aside from ANH, of course) don't look that way. In Luke's duels with Vader, it really looks like they're each trying to skewer one another. In the PT duels, it just looks like each contender is trying to swing his sabre around fancily and make contact with the other's blade.

Sure, the PT battles look pretty. So do acrobat routines, parades, and rock concert choreography, but there's no real danger to be found. I prefer my lightsabre duels to be a little more realistic and spontaneous, myself. The PT duels are many things to many people, but they certainly aren't spontaneous, or believable.

To sum it up.

On battledroids, for the most part they'r grand in TPM, they sound just like emotionless robots, and are mostly functional, except for one or two instances. The first time they talk, with the roger roger crap, is usually muted, which makes perfect sense, why would they be talking loudly outside where two Jedi might stil be alive, shouldn't they try to creep in? Also the "Where are you taking them/does not compute" joke is corny, but seeing as it's pretty much the only battledroid joke in the whole film, it doesn't really stick out. Very little work needed on this film's droids.

Now AOTC, the droids aren't in a lot, but when they are, their voices have gotten a lot more annoying, and goofy. The super battledroids don't speak at all ,which was nice, it kept them intimadating. Again, very littl needed to do, but what does need to be done, really needs to be done.

But ROTS, god damn, what a horror to the senses. Every single droid in this is annoying, and childish. Every single one. Even the hulking super battle droids got those stupid high pitched voices, it's so juvenile. Worst of all, they feature the most out of all the prequels. This one needs as much redubbing as possible, preferrably similiar to the emotionless tones of the TPM droids, or at least something just as neutral and robotic.

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION

I was very pleased that Adywan added the Emperor's Theme to the meetingin ANH:R, and I hope he's added it to the hologram scene in ESB:R, if just so that the Emperor's eventual arrival in ROTJ:R, accompanied by a full blast of the Theme, has been well foreshadowed by the leitmotif throughout the trilogy. And that was some run-on sentence.

Plus IMO next to the Imperial March and Force Theme, it's the coolest theme music in the series :P.
