Hiatus
Time
Starting today, I am taking a hiatus from movies, everything but Star Wars. The reason for this is because I have autism and become easily offended. And the fact is, there's just too many movies out there that are offensive to me. And all my bad memories nowadays are coming from movies. So I decided, I need a break. No more movies, for I don't know how long. I'll still watch Star Wars, because it helped me fight a lot of these bad memories, and has only a few parts that offend me. I'll still come here to talk with you guys about Star Wars, but as of today, for an unknown amount of time, I won't be watching any more movies.

However, I still play video games, because as you know, I love games more than movies. You can catch me on Planet Quake discussing my favorite game of all time.

New Confession!
Time
The Quake series is my favorite game of all time!

The reason I changed: because Quake's music is more moody and satisfying than DOOM's, and I like the gameplay and monsters much better.

And I say "series" is because I like all of them. I have no particular favorite. I like all of them.

DOOM will be ONE of my favorites, because it's a relative of Quake. But the Quake series is my new favorite game of all time.

And so, the Star Wars series is my favorite movie of all time. I have no particular favorite. I like all of them, special or non-special.

Star Wars had a rough draft, so did DOOM
Time
Oh, Star Wars and DOOM are alike in so many ways...

George Lucas wrote a giant rough draft of the Original Star Wars, which he split and compressed into the 3 movies we know today.

-then-

Tom Hall wrote the DOOM Bible, which was then extremely cut down and compressed into the DOOM we know today.

You know, it would be pretty intresting to see these two the way they were originally designed to be. Not by today's standards, like the Special Edition and DOOM 3, but back in 1977 and 1993. Just imagine...

General PC Games Discussion.

Screw those games!

You know what you should play: DOOM

$10 for Ultimate DOOM, DOOM II, and Final DOOM will get you thousands of fan-made levels and missions beyond your wildest dreams. In fact, DOOM is one of , possibly THE greatest, PC games ever made!

Here's a link to prove my point.

And if it looks too dated, download JDOOM and stock up with high-res models and textures. You can also get MP3 music and sound for the game as well.

I think I tried that before, but then it crashed horribly.

However, the patch I mentioned before that can downgrade Ultimate DOOM to Original DOOM 1.1 can be found in certain locations, but NOT on id's webpage.

Yea, DOS Doom crashed on me too, but it did it with Doom 2 and Final Doom as well, so I'm not sure what the deal is.

I just hope that "downgrade" patch also maintains all the bugfixes that were present in Ultimate DOOM. For myself, I'm perfectly happy with Ultimate Doom and don't really see what's so wrong with Thy Flesh Consumed.

Holy Shit! I just ried your idea with DOOM 2 and it worked! I'm going to have to try it again with everything else, but if DOOM 1 doesn't work, there's still that downgrade patch. Thanks!

EDIT: It works with Ultimate DOOM, except it omits the fourth episode (YAY!) I'll try it with original and Final DOOM later.

My two cousins are becoming OOT fanatics
Time
I am the third of 11 grandchildren. The last 3 are a set of triplets.

The 6th oldest likes DOOM and Star Wars just as much as I do. But here's the thing: I'm with the old, and he's with the new. My favorite game is Original DOOM, his is DOOM 3. My favorite movie is Episode IV, his is Episode III.

Well, back to the subject, he's got all six official DVDs. So I figured for his birthday, I'd give him a set of the OOT, because I've been telling him about it for some time. He was ecstatic when he received the set, and now whenever I ask him about it, he says it's better than the SEs. Convincing?

Now one of the triplets is a boy (4 years old). He's seen parts of Star Wars before and he likes Darth Vader. After all, his uncle's a Star Wars fanatic (He's NOT on originaltrilogy.com, though I might convince him to join ). Anyway, for no real purpose, I gave him a set of the OOT. He doesn't care what version it is. He's just happy he's got his own Star Wars. Hey, at least no one will reveal the big secret to him in ESB (except his mom possibly :X). BTW, his mom let the uncle borrow the set so he could take a look at it. He's probably got the SEs, but once he sees these, he might want to join this site.

So now I have an OOT-lovin' cousin and one that's going to be. Lucas is probably going to hate me for this, but what the hell.

P.S.: The version I gave them was Dark Jedi's Widescreen FACES set. I cloned it with my DVD burner.

DING DING DING! WE HAVE A WINNER!!!

You're right! I AM Autistic! That's why I get offended by stuff so easily! That's why I make decisions in a silly way! Because I'm AUTISTIC!

But video game publishers rarely release old games. I mean, even if there was no Doom Special Edition, you wouldn't be able to walk into a store and buy the original Doom would you? Games are made, released, and then replaced by new versions (better graphics, more levels, more moves, different storyline, etc etc)
You can still buy old games online. 3D Realms is a perfect example of this. They're still selling their 1990-1996 DOS games for about $15-30. ID Software still sells the DOS version of Quake for about $40!

And Ingo, I see you have a new favourite game and therefore a new favourite movie. What is the reasoning? Why the change?

The only reason I made Episode III my favorite at the time was because it was a prequel like SFA3. But SFA3's final boss (Super Bison) is ridiculously difficult and frustrating. Even worse, in some versions if you lose to him, you can't continue. I got extremely angry trying to beat him without losing, then I thought "To hell with it. Bison's just an over-the-top asswipe." So I ditched SFA3 and made DOOM my favorite game of all time, because I know that game, and it's nowhere near as frustrating as SFA3. I can speed through and beat that game on its easiest difficulty, and that's what I want in a game. And with 5 difficulty levels, I can always come back for a challenge. But my favorite is the ORIGINAL version of DOOM, because Ultimate's fourth episode does not fit in with the other three. It doesn't have a world map like is MUCH harder compared to the other episodes. So I'm trying to preserve the original version because that 3-episode game is truly my favorite.

So Star Wars became my true favorite movie, because 1. It's the original like DOOM, and 2. It's to me the only one out of the six that had no offensive parts in it. And its the OOT version, like DOOM, because even though I don't mind the SE, I still think the modelwork is fascinating.

EDIT: There's another reason why I don't like Ultimate DOOM. The original DOOM worked well as a standalone game, even though it was sort of a cliffhanger. Ultimate's Episode 4 was created basically to tie in the first game with DOOM II. So now it's sort of a prequel to the second game. I reject this because I like the original DOOM to be a standalone game. Same with ANH.

OK, we all know the story: George Lucas made SW, then made a Special Edition with CGI changes which he thinks is better and unleashing it all over the world and refuses to ever release the original version again, even though people don't like the SE because the CGI doesn't fit in with the modelwork, and they're making fan edits of the original version.

Well, Star Wars isn't the only one:

Id Software made DOOM, then made an Ultimate Edition with a fourth episode which they think is better and unleashing it all over the world and refuses to ever release the original version again, even though people (like me) don't like the Ultimate Edition because the fourth episode doesn't fit in with the other three, and they're making patches to downgrade the game to its original version.

Anything else suffering this blasphemy?

Confession: My favorite movie is ROTS
Time
Good news. This time I've truly, honestly, changed my mind.

DOOM is now my favorite game of all time. Because it's fun, easy to beat, not frustrating, and not upsetting. And with 5 difficulty levels, I can always come back for a challenge.

So Star Wars Episode IV is once again my favorite movie of all time. And it's the OOT version. Why? Because DOOM has a special edition too: The Ultimate DOOM. And ID Software only publishes the Ultimate DOOM and provides no patch to get the original version. So now it's in the same vein as Episode IV. What a coincidence.
