The ANH:SE Redux Ideas thread (Radical Ideas Welcome).
Time

I remember commenting somewhere ages ago that I really wish Adywan had gone ahead and included the destruction of 'Jar Jar' in his edit, lol.

However, I also said at the time that I liked the overall short 'timing' of the sequence of destruction (and music cue) that we'd been used to over the years....so would have ideally liked to see only the brief shot of 'Jar Jar' and 'Bail Organa' inserted....which would have still kept the 'timing' (and music cue) of the sequence relatively unaffected, while still showing the drama of real Alderaan inhabitants being wiped out.

I've always been happy with the original sequence due to the grave way Ben describes what he feels has just happened, as it always seemed sufficient to 'sell' the events that went unseen....  However, this extra Adywan shot would have been great if inserted I reckon....not merely because I wanted rid of 'Jar Jar'....but because seeing the end of Leia's 'Father'-figure gave an added weight to the scene in light of the Prequels I thought....

Anyway, it turns out that ladyferry actually put up a version a while ago that shows this, which I've just come across!  :)   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4D-gYagJPA

(a request -  Is there anyone out there that is willing and able to cobble together another YouTube clip using Adywan's footage and explosion sometime?....again just inserting the 'Jar Jar' shot immediately after the planet is hit by the laser....except beginning at the point where Tarkin is pressuring Leia to reveal where the Rebel Base is, so we get the full build-up to the explosion....and ending after Ben tells Luke he fears something terrible has happened.  Just to get a better idea of how the whole sequence would look and sound with this single additional shot added.  Thanks)

In the meantime, here's my 2nd-favourite version of this scene....   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pt3Sh8Fxv4U

Indiana Jones 4 Fan Edit (Released)
Time

Hi thunderclap, good to see another possible version of this on the go.  While I realise it might be impractical to list all your intended changes, could you perhaps answer these particular questions about your intentions for this sometime?  (unless you don't wish to reveal anything of course)

1.  Are you keeping the original's basic 'chronological order' of sequences, or re-arranging whole sequences/adding additional footage from other sources?

2.  Are you keeping the 'Hotrod Chase' beginning in some way, or starting with an alternative sequence?

3.  Are you keeping the 'Wedding' ending in some way, or finishing with an alternative sequence.

4.  Will this be a PAL or NTSC release?

5.  Will you be doing any colour-correction?

6.  Will the audio be 5.1?

Thanks.

Anyway, i thought i'd just pop in to say thanks to everyone for their kind words. The funeral isn't until the 9th Feb so i won't be back here full time until after that and even then it will only be now and then probably for a while.

Jaita, love your flaps mock-up video. It's definitely something that i'm looking at doing

As Jaitea said, we'll all be thinking of you and your family on that day Adywan.

I've started on a few things I hope to bring up for you and others here in the near future.  And we'll hear from you when we hear from you.

Great to know that your definately going to be adding some Snowspeed 'flaps' after all.

I think this question is ontopic enough, if Ady is back to reading the forum:

Ady- With all the hubbub regarding a 3D conversion of Star Wars on the horizon, will this change your plans for your Revisited work?  I see you included the 3D conversion of the Jabba scene on SWR, so I have to assume you have at least a passing interest in 3D...

How hard do you think it will be to go back and reconform your Revisied changes to the 3D release assuming it happens?

I'm just wondering if I'll have to permanently choose between Revisited and 3D...

It seems that there's some 'psuedo'-3D technology that is already being put into some of the new, upcoming 3D-tvs....which will actually give some kind of 3D effect to 2D sources....

I've no idea how successful the effect is, but I'd sure be interested to see how 'Star Wars:Revisited' looks on them using this stuff.  It will probably be similar to the kind of software technology that TriDef has developed for this Acer laptop, which I've confirmed works with standard dvds too.  Here's some demos -

Can Yoda be added to the shot where Luke falls after standing on his hands on Dagobah? It looks like Yoda is magically transported to a spot out of frame as he falls.

Am I alone on this? :P

To be honest, this seems fine to me.  We see Yoda balanced up high on Luke's foot before we eventually see him seem to fall violently forward/sidewards as Luke begins to lose his balance.  When we cut to Luke continuing to fall to the ground, it's quite a 'close-up' vew of the area to the front/sides of him, and it seems Yoda could easily have ended up a little further away, out of shot, considering the forward/sidewards momentum he seemed to have, from the height he was at the time.

Perhaps Adywan could show something like the 'blurred' hint of Yoda's robes/foot going off-screen at some point during Luke's fall to the ground, but I reckon it still works without it, if not.

So hands up everyone that really believed this 3D 'Avatar' thing would end up beating 'Titanic' s world-wide box-office total, before it opened? -  http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/16188/-avatar-overtakes-titanic-at-box-office

It's proving to be a 'game-changer' after all, and this latest 3D 'revival' is gathering momentum rapidly now if these latest high-profile 'conversions' are anything to go by -  http://www.heatvisionblog.com/2010/01/harry-potter-hallows-3D-clash-of-the-titans-3D.html

And as far as 'Avatar' itself, the extended Blu-ray version is shaping up to be an even better journey overall -  http://marketsaw.blogspot.com/2010/01/avatart-future-earth-pic-and-article.html

Okayz.

Thanks to ady that passed one more new pic under our nose

here is the comparison :)

Good catch about this one being slipped onto the Facebook page vaderios.  It's great to see the shadowing on the Stardestroyer is now consistent with when it goes in-between the 2 SDs a little later.  The colouring and overall look of Adywan's latest shot is awesome.  Wow!  :)

And that was a neat 'mock-up' of the Snowspeeder flaps there Jaitea.  I'm hoping that Ady will add something along these lines too.

Something ive noticed navigating through the menus.

Vader in the menus is taller and his stance is more straight.

Plus there is a better definition of forms and detail between the stair section.

Who is the more aggressive?

Okay, since you're asking, I'd have to say I definately prefer the existing Vader stance at the top here, rather than the one in the 'menu' version below.

And as well as the subtly-different stance, I also prefer the existing 'composition' as it is too....where Vader is positioned further back on the right of the shot.  I also prefer the look and angles of the set details in the existing shot too, and the whole layout of this reveal just looks superior to me I have to say.

While some of the 'menu' elements are neat, this fast-zooming animated one is very different from the great build-up seen in the existing static shots in this scene.

3D STAR WARS for the masses...has ARRIVED!
Time

Hmmm, GL keeps on hinting at it, but I'm beginning to wonder if he's gonna be at the straggler's end, rather than the forefront, when it comes to the upcoming 'conversion' revolution....

http://www.accesshollywood.com/george-lucas-avatars-technology-could-make-3-d-star-wars-a-reality_article_27866  (That Facebook User comment wasn't by me by the way, lol.)

Although the 'converted' portion of 'A New Hope' that supposedly impressed the few that have seen it, was done long ago....it sounds as if nothing much has been done since the early demo was shown to GL....and since I remember reading somewhere that any 'conversions' would be released at the rate of 1 per year, starting with 'Episode 1'....then I guess it'll be a while before anyone gets to see a 'dimensionalised' big-screen re-release of the O.T. after all.

LOL.

Also i realised in that shot the roof doesnt look like the one that we see from outside. From outside it looks like a high double roof, and from inside it looks much more simpler.

You'll be pleased to know that Adywan previewed a shot a while back showing that he'd removed the roof detail to match the interior ceiling.

How all this started?

I blame Walt and his 'Multi-plane' system....  ;)

Which I gotta disagree with BmB about, as I thought it rocked personally!

The recent comments have reminded me of a couple of other shots I'd love to see enhanced a little if possible, and I'll pop by later to go into them.

You reminded me of something else too vaderios.  :)  (no, not Dagobah, yet....)

I'm not against the 3D effect either for that matter, if you find the time and effort to do it then kudos to you, but at least do it well.

I think I did.

You definately did DE!

I really loved that 3D-style 'zoom-in' effect. Thanks for that split-screen version.  :)

As far as the design of the Vane itself, the thing I always wanted to see as a fix, was the long extending arm/tunnel (that Luke follows Vader through) being moved higher up to align nearer where Luke exits near the round window.  I always thought this was the most straight-forward change to make to the current look....meaning that the actual 'Carbon Chamber' was situated in the 'surrounding wall' at the other end of the arm/tunnel.

But as Adywan seems to prefer the location of the 'Carbon Chamber' as being inside the Vane, then I'm really looking forward to his final re-design which will make this more plausible.

3d camera projection is to project an image to a 3d geometry. To have a more real look with subtle movements (im refering again to darth editous bespin shaft matte)

Since you brought it up vaderios, here's that neat Darth Editous shot for anyone that missed it -  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1TQ11frJ0A

Although a comparison clip would have shown the difference clearer, you can see how the walkway at the front of the Vane rises upwards in relation to the surrounding backdrop behind it....compared to the static 'zoom-in' of the original matte.

It really adds depth, and that's some great stuff that you and Jaitea have shown about all these kinds of effects.

Can't wait to see what Adywan has decided to do with his whole Vane sequence eventually....

battle

Although it may look like some copy & pasted troopers, they are all in fact different troopers. There are subtle differences in their movements and angles. What i don't like about this shot is the "Vaseline" effect on the troopers.  The ESB:R second unit will be re-filming the troopers for this and a couple of other shots in February in the US. We have a production meeting this saturday and i have to finish some of the costume pieces and props and get them sent to the US in time for filming to begin.

What?  'Adywan Productions' has his very own US-based 'Second Unit' now?

Terrific stuff, and that 'extras' bonus disc is sounding more and more required viewing!  :)

You mentioned you were itching to get back to ESB:R a few posts ago... is there anything holding you up (lack of money?  time?).

It was to do with his monitor packing in.  However, Jacen has kindly posted him a good replacement from abroad recently.

As far as the 'reflections/scratches' thing on cockpits etc., while it may have been a nice touch if introduced from the start of the 'Revisited' edits, I wouldn't like to see an inconsistency with 'Star Wars:Revisited'....

And it would have been an incredible amount of work to include I reckon, considering the amount of various shots we see out of different craft throughout these movies.

WOW!  The 'asteroid chase' sequence was always a highlight of the movie for me, and your latest exclusive New Year preview is sheer awesomeness.

It had some brilliant tweaks I wasn't expecting, and the stuff I was hoping to see has turned out wonderfully.  Everything done so far has made this great effects sequence far, far better.

Incredible stuff Adywan!  :)  I've sent you a PM about it all.
