The hair… wow, that looks so good and seamless. As if there was any doubt with your work!

However, I do have to nitpick as well. There is something a little bit off about the brown cloak. On the left side, it’s almost… slanted too much? It almost looks like it’s floating on him. Maybe there needs to be some more shadow on the white robe to blend it in better? Something like that.

(Not trying to start a hate swarm, it looks really good regardless.)

So I checked this edit out, and it’s solid. Your effects look pretty great! The editing of getting rid of Han being jealous and little things like that were great too. The use of music from the other movies fit the scenes they’re in.
Maybe not every new piece of music is appropriate for the movie on its own and for my personal liking, but it works well for your goal of a movie that fits in perfectly with the saga at large.
Great work. You should be proud of it!

I’m sorry if I have suggested some reconsiderations that have already been set in stone. If I’ve made a suggestion about something, it’s because I have not seen the message saying the edit is solidified already. (And I can understand how annoying that would be.) Sorry that I’ve only suggested stuff to be changed or complained about edits. Either way, I feel that’s the only legitimate input I can provide. But I recognize I’m just saying words and don’t have the talent to actually put in any work a lot of you guys into this. I want this edit to be as good as it can possibly be so Hal’s trilogy is perfect. Don’t mean to cause drama here or bog down the conversation if this recent stuff is because of my antics, lol. It is Hal’s edit, after all, not mine.

Hm. The 3PO line is just some extra context to hit the point home that this planet is so extremely remote that not even a robot can find it on a map. I don’t mind it, I guess.

Cutting the Luke line might add a tiny bit more suspense and surprise when Rey turns on the purple lightsaber. But it does sound like something a ghost Obi-Wan would say. It evokes that same feeling to me, a little. Can be cut.

The Finn line is tricky. It might be unclear what is happening off Exegol. We see all the ships on Exegol shut down because of their loss of connection, right? And then the off-world Star Destroyers are destroyed because of the galactic uprising, and those are just people doing it on their own. It’s unrelated to the Exegol connection thing being destroyed. That line from Finn, while it doesn’t make much sense, is necessary to convey the message that an actual uprising is happening all over the place at this time, not that the ships are just shutting down together (unless… they were just shutting down together.)
Off-topic a little, but if I could add in an extra scene, I’d show people on Naboo watching a Galaxy News Network broadcast of the success on Exegol, and then show the viewers looking up into the sky and seeing the new shot of the Star Destroyer there getting attacked and defeated. This wouldn’t flow with the montage as it is, but I find it kinda neat in theory.

I have a little nitpick with the force ghost scene in the final battle in the movie, am I the only one who thinks it would make more sense to have Sebastian Shaw, the original actor who played Anakin in the ending of ROTJ, instead of Hayden Christensen? We have an old Obi Wan, and old Luke, but Anakin who is the grandfather of Luke is still young, it’s just a little nitpick in my part, it doesn’t work that much for me, other than that, the edit and concept of that scene is still fantastic, and I’m a big fan of the work that has been done by the fan edit community, it’s fantastic!

Jonh had something in the works (as requested) when I spoke with him a couple months ago. The little work in progress he was working on looked great. Luckily, Anakin is just standing there still in the scene, so we could use still images for it. I hope Shaw gets the Star Wars justice he deserves!

My argument for it not being canon is… Obi Wan gets both voice and physical spirit mixed up with Ewan and Alec. So why can’t we have the voice of Hayden and the appearance of Sebastian Shaw? 😁

Speaking of the ending, the music transition into “Directed by JJ Abrams” still feels weird. I know it’s been discussed a lot, so sorry if it’s already been decided upon and everything. It’s, like, abrupt and there is no flow or the usual “jolt” feeling you get when the credits roll. It just feels jarring and jump cut in the audio. I’m sure it’s incredibly difficult to get a proper timing with what appears to be two seperate audio tracks, but it’s just not feeling right.

Could it just be because of how we’re hearing the music as the Falcon is slowly entering hyperspace? Is the timing just all out of whack for my liking?

+1, I was a strong supporter of letting the music play out a little more because the timing cuts in perfectly.

That feels better. Still not 100% perfect, but that feels like it’s as far as you can take it into perfecting the transition. Or maybe not!

I don’t think cutting to the inside of the ship you just heard starting up for a fun moment as Rey and BB-8 leave frame, suggesting new adventures on the way, and then cutting back outside to that ship flying through frame is “random.” I think it honestly makes spatial and storytelling sense to do that. “Rey Skywalker” - They leave frame on the suns. Cut to the inside of the ship you just heard start up. Cut back to the suns, now in different position, a short time later - ship flies through that frame. Time has passed, the feeling of “they’re off on new adventures” is underlined, and iris out.

Maybe find some kind of unused shot of Rey and maybe BB-8 in the cockpit to make this sort of thing work? I dunno.

It felt a little weird that Kylo asks “what could you give me?” after Emperor kinda just explained it by saying “kill me and my spirit will pass into you, as all the Sith live in me.” Like… you’ll be getting the power of all the Sith, what more do you need to know? I appreciate getting rid of the eye-rolling ROTS line he originally says, though lol. The new line placement is growing on me the longer I think it through, and I don’t know what I’d do to make it perfect for me. So whatever, it’s fine. Either way, the change is definitely better than what he originally says.

However, doesn’t this create an issue? Since Kylo has now learned the Emperor’s goal, why doesn’t he just kill the Emperor then and there? Become an unstoppable super villain off the bat. Or something. What exactly are Kylo’s “other plans” now (kill the Emperor… together? Does Kylo not believe what he said about his spirit passing into him?) Also, lol, why does the Emperor sense some things coming, and is oblivious to other things? Is it something like; he’s so evil and full of hate, he can’t even foresee them both becoming good together and turning on him? But that’s just weird and also not explained. I can’t put my finger on it, what the root issue is (Believe me, this message went through many extensive drafts that went super off-topic.) I think of an issue, then a solution… but then something else pops up in my head that makes no sense about this storyline. It’s so frustrating, this one. The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi were so clear to me. Then The Rise Of Skywalker comes along and mucks it up with this story that I have to spend hours trying to piece together; making whatever conclusions and assumptions I can come up with. Arrgh. Sorry for going off-topic at the end there.

Oh yes, the AT-ST bit was one of the worst parts of the movie, lol. And I actually liked the original film. “Hey look, it’s BB-8! The top of the AT-ST comes off to show you!”

I guess that’s another good reason to remove the fight all together; since he’s involved in the fight and it has to end with BB-8 getting them out of there. Oh well. I hope someone completes that deleted scene one day at least.

Why was the Finn & Phasma fight cut? I’d love an explanation that can fully convince me on how pointless it was in the original movie. So I can get over it in V4 and beyond. I know it was worthless for Phasma to get a her own big action moment, but I thought it was such a big moment for Finn to be able to say “Rebel Scum” to her that it didn’t matter.

I could also see that removing Finn defeating his old Stormtrooper Captain is to fit with the lack of that subplot of him starting a Stormtrooper uprise against the First Order in the original drafts of Episode 9. Or the change could be because Finn shows that he has become unselfish by that point in the story with his attempt of self-sacrifice on Crait. And you don’t NEED to ALSO see him fight Phasma and defeat her. The arc of his character in the film is understood just with the Crait sequence. If it was just that, I can understand that.

But I dunno, it doesn’t quite sit right with me when I think about it. I might just need to watch the again from the start with an open mind towards this.

It’s not a HUGE issue. And I don’t mean to complain, since I love everything else that’s been done. These edits have been almost mind-bogglingly well edited, lol. I would go back to V2 to get me preciousssss scene back, but all of the improvements and changes since then have been too good to forget about. So I’d love to be more okay with the loss of this scene.
