George can be a little silly with his choices, and ret-cons were a staple between the OT and PT.

Jonh also has the Sebastian Shaw version to finalize đ
Whoa! Great job, everyone.
^Did we ever learn what the third lesson was off-screen? Iâve read the novelization and such but I canât remember
The âthird lessonâ was that scene in the TLJ novelization (it was in the deleted scenes too) where Luke claims that the Caretaker village is being invaded by pirates. He tells Rey that a true Jedi wouldnât save them, but Rey runs off anyway. Once she gets there, she finds that it was actually a big party all along. Luke tells her that it was supposed to be a lesson on how Jedi beliefs donât matter anymore, but Rey gets pissed and storms away.
Some fan edits have added that scene back into the movie, but Halâs didnât, so Cinefyâs idea was supposed to be another way of incorporating a third lesson into the trilogy.
I know. If this third lesson scene was in TLJ, then the lesson would be⌠things donât appear how they seem. Sheâs already learned that from Luke ending up being a hermit instead of the epic Jedi she (and we) all thought he would be. I suppose it is a major theme in the film, but itâs unnecessary to do this again, when Rey has already been unintentionally taught this lesson from the very beginning of the film. And whole the setting of her going to like a fun Caretaker party is just one I donât really like, honestly lol.
So in the context of the film without that scene, I think what I took from it still stands. Reyâs third lesson is one you donât need to be sat down on a rock and told, like a typical Jedi Master and Padawan. That aspect of the Jedi should be gone. It leads to horror every time. Or something like it. Or maybe Iâm completely wrong and some edits are way better with that scene included; I havenât seen many for TLJ outside of Halâs!
I like the idea of adding the lesson 3 to TROS, but, in defense of the lack of a third lesson in TLJâŚ
Reyâs third lesson is something she âlearnsâ on her own. Donât nail your destiny on anyone, or youâll be disappointed. Basically.
But more importantly; screw this religion with its specific rules and lessons. She metaphorically doesnât NEED a third lesson taught to her in the old Jedi way, because its about doing things your own way for the greater good. Not following a specific, flawed guideline. Something like that.
Yeah, itâs character and story-wise wrong, like Hal said. But then itâs too loud (and wrong) or too quiet (and thus pointless) either way you edit it.
Adding a line ruins the comedy beat him staying silent brought, and it also makes the scene too corny. Finn insists Poe take his hand and say âfor Chewieâ as Poe rolls his eyes (showing to the audience to not take this rejoice so seriously). And then 3PO joins and DOES take it seriously. The three of them (or just Poe, annoyed) look at 3PO strangely, because heâs a silly robot who doesnât get it and wants to feel like heâs helping. Itâs awkward on purpose. If you add him saying something with them, it takes away the awkward comedy moment, makes it more corny because now theyâre all taking the âfor Chewieâ thing a little too seriously. And just makes it an overall forgettable moment now. I donât think anything needs to be added here; C-3PO staying silent isnât an issue, really. MAYBE if we can extend the shot of Poe looking frustrated at C-3PO AFTER he says âFor my friend!â, then we can retain the comedy beat⌠but I donât know. 3PO saying anything distracts us from Poeâs annoyed expression.
Perhaps have 3PO say a line as heâs walking over. So the silent part of Poe being annoyed is still retained. But everyone seems to be adding the line to fill in this silent gap, so I dunno haha.
Little word-y there, but I hope you get my point. And to be fair, Finn and Rey are taking the hand thing and âfor Chewieâ seriously. So maybe everyone sees it differently. Just overall not really feeling this change. It was perfectly, awkwardly C-3PO.
Yeah, I love that idea a lot. Imagining Palpatine, yâknow, having a biological child is weird. And a failed clone doesnât make sense in this context.
Wow. A Palpatine-less edit. Would the final battle be on the Death Star II wreckage? Rey just impales Kylo and then it ends.
The âWeak. Like your parentsâ line could still work in a movie where they were scumbag nobodies. I like that.
Reyâs dad just had midichlorian dysfunction, and Palpatine was REALLY embarassed about his clone son.
I know it was from the novel, but I was asking if there are any even subtle hints at all that this is the case in the actual film. This was already answered to me, but thank you for confirming it!
Were there any explicit references to Reyâs dad being a failed clone of Palpatine?
I do not think the timeline would add up on that, plus it would feel really forced. Another clone? Fully with HAL on this one, we should not even try.
I was asking if there was any direct implication of it in the theatrical film. Because that actually is the explanation in canon; Reyâs father was a âfailedâ Palpatine clone. I want any trace of that gone just as much as anyone else does, lol.
There is too much moaning and groaning for me to handle in that video, lol.
I think the line works either way.
Itâs either âI know where sheâs goingâ, we wonder how he knows, and then we see that the KoR are tracking Ochiâs ship.
Or we see the KoR are tracking the ship, and then we see Kylo knows this.
Either way gives us a sense that Kylo and the KoR are working together, itâs so seamless that the first time I watched one of the early workprints I didnât remember that scene came so much later originally and it just made sense to me thatâs what he was referring to.
You could argue he doesnât really know where sheâs going yet, but heâs waiting for the intel from the KoR which he gets in a latter scene, so what heâs saying is true, from a certain point of view. He knows the KoR are still on her track.
And it even works to soften the awkward moment where he lets them get away on Passana, as now itâs clear he has a plan. In the original film itâs not made clear if the KoR decide to track them on their own and if Kylo knew this, now itâs clear they are working together.
Agree with this, I think.
If a replacement for this âOh, Chewbaac!â line isnât found, have him not say anything.
I kinda liked 3PO not saying anything. It was cute and awkward in a C-3PO way the way it played out.
Yeah that part doesnât quite make sense. I mean, to be fair, the group just do just look at each other confused and curiously follows him in this version. They werenât running super fast behind him. I could see it working. But as it is without some heavy tweaking, itâs very awkward and random that Lando just appears in this way.
I really do like music leading into the ending credits the way Hal has it configured currently. Though the transition between the Rey theme and the credits wipe still seemed a bit off, like there was some undesirable audio bleed on the crossfade. I made an attempt to create a cleaner transition: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-r_k2ogPR2IFIih-e2dLQYCsL5gI9Igb/view?usp=sharing
EDIT: Link is now accessible
That feels right to me. Thatâs all I needed to be altered with it. Thank you.
I figured it would be the same as the film; Palpatine had Ochi try to find little baby Rey (because Palpatineâs spirit sensed how strong she was in the force; new Chosen One.) And Ochi still killed her parents in the process of trying to track her down. So Rey is still vengeful against Palpatine at the end and edging towards the dark side. The only difference is that sheâs not blood related to Palpy. Everything could happen the same without her being related to him, maybe. I was okay with Kylo telling her that âthey were filthy junk tradersâ wasnât the full truth. And maybe her finding out that her parents were good, and sensing Ben there, is her rejection from the dark?
But I guess this is just even weaker than Rey Palpatine and way too convenient for the story, lol. Iâd prefer it if her parents were just scum and thatâs it. But her parents being noble isnât the worst thing ever after TLJ.
Were there any explicit references to Reyâs dad being a failed clone of Palpatine? Itâs been a while since Iâve watched the original film. But⌠yâknow, just in case they said he was a clone, I hope we donât overlook it and accidentally leave that stuff in the Rey Nobody cut.
âHe killed my mother⌠and my father.â
Maybe itâs just the brown cloak thatâs big. And when heâs wearing that, heâs even wider than he already is.
âGoodnight⌠but not⌠goodbyeeeeeeeâŚâ Hyperspace, cut to credits.
Probably this music cue. Itâs what I personally intend to use.
