Did the prequels have boring visuals?
Time

^True dat!  And screw doug chang!  The x-wing is the coolest fighter in sci-fi IMO!  I love the SFX on camino, its the best part of the PT for me.  I think the arena scene is just horrid, especially the shots of nute gunray, dooku and their cronies in their arena box.  And I cant stand the jedi vs battle droid cgi mayhem.  Cant see myself watching that crap ever again.

And I concur about the silly design of the battle droids. They look like something a preschooler would design.  Hardly menacing and overly boring.  Get a sack Luca$!

Was George Lucas a trickster the whole time?

Im right there with ya GF. I dont really think Luca$ is a trickster, just an overrated, talentless shmo that got lucky and made lots of shrewd business decisions.  Personally I dont hold Luca$ in the same light as I did from 77'-99'.  I used to think the world of him.  For the past 13 years Ive learned the UOT to be a collaborative effort, but with Luca$ name on it.  Originally George just wanted to make a Flash Gordon film, when that was rejected, he cobbled a bunch of space characters/ideas around on paper, and with TONS of collaborative help and editing and direction from REAL creative minds, we got ANH in 77.  Years ago at TF.N we had a forum called the "bashers sanctuary", which was created at the time of TPM, for obvious reasons.  Its shut down now, but I do recall there being many articles posted on Luca$'s original unedited scripts for the OT.  They were as circus-bad as the writing for the prequals.  I find it a blessing that Luca$ had executives telling him what he can't do and honest colleagues standing up to his silly ideas.  All in all I dont think Luca$ a trickster, but I do think he has held a grudge against all the people REALLY responsible for making the UOT spectacular, and has gone to great lengths to change and distort the UOT in order to avoid paying royalties and to thumb his nose at them.

HN, we go back to the TFN days at the Bashers Sancttuary, and I think both sides goes too far in praise and criticism of Lucas.

I think the Pro-PT think Lucas had EVERYTHING to do with the success of SW, and think of him like a God and state that when they say, "Its his movies, so he can do what he wants with them."  So in that respect, they're wrong as they were more collaborative and there were others should be acknowledged for the success of SW.

But I think our side is wrong sometimes when they say Lucas is a talentless hack.  You can make that argument today, as I believe once he built Lucasfilm he was never going to be that renegade director who tooks chances.  But we must acknowledge whether it was collaborative or not, that he deserves alot of credit for the OT movies.   Of course Kersh, Kasdan, Kurtz, Hirsch, Marcia Lucas and others should get credit, and the 7 Academy Awards will always make that point.

I have always said Lucas is a like an athlete or musician and he was making SW in his prime, and making the PT well PAST his prime.  I mean Jedi isn't as great as SW and ESB, but that happens in every movie series.  Lucas isn't a GOD, but he's not a hack either.  He just a jerk for not releasing the OOT.

I see your point GF, W_C and CO, and appreciate your opinions.  I agree that both sides do go too far, and Ive been guilty of that every so often.  Currently , Im trying to accept the fact the Luca$ did what he did, they're his movies.  But after all Ive read the past 13 years, and observing Luca$'s behavior, not to mention the shoddy prequals,  I stand by my earlier post.  But, my main frustration is from his not making the UOT on bluray.

'Why the SW prequels are better than the OT' - article inside
Time

I didnt even bother clicking the link.  Ive read so much of that garbage from TF.N years ago that I already knew what this poor excuse for an article said.   And people  like that article's author will buy anything Luca$ throws out anyway.  Luca$ could have the jedi council in each of the PT films performing a "circle jerk" and that author plus the knuckleheads at TF.N will not only buy the revised films, but swear by them as Luca$'s  ingenuity.

It's Official: George Lucas hates his fans :P
Time

georgec said:

Georgie can say and do what he wants because 99% of SW fans will always be there, frothing at the mouth for any table scraps he throws down to them.

Now the UOT crowd is the mean group of people who hurt Georgie's feelings so badly that he decided to quit the movie business. Of course, George isn't quitting anything nor has he been particularly active in Hollywood since ROTS, other than with Indy 4. It's an erroneous, misleading statement but it succeeds in painting the UOT people and other non-apologists as haters who turned on their beloved creator and ruined SW for everybody.

I seriously don't comprehend why anybody who dislikes Lucas' antics continues to support him in some way, be it watching Clone Wars, playing SW video/PC games, buying books, buying the blu-rays, etc. Now Lucas has called out anyone who dares question him and blamed them for his selfish behavior. How many times can he tell his fans, "FU," before they stop giving him money? Georgie is curious to know because everybody always comes back. "Oh, I don't like the new changes, but I guess it's Star Wars on blu-ray."

I probably sound harsh and arrogant but people need to get over the need to have SW continuously in their lives. I love the originals and that will never change, but I don't need to watch them all the time nor do I need to fill some void for new SW material with anything that exists out there today. That's not to say I don't think the fan restorations (Adywan, Harmy, etc.) are amazing efforts. I'm talking more about newly created SW crap.

SW as a phenomenon is extremely played out. Dogs barking Imperial March in commercials? Don't care. 3D rerelease? Don't care.

Move along.

You took the words right out of my mouth georgec!  Couldnt agree with u more.  I havent spent a dime on SW crap since 2005.

Wow Red-Tails is finally coming to the big screen?  If what I read in previous posts is right then, good job lucas, it only took you 23 years!  So with george's involvement does that mean Red-Tails will have a huge action figure and vehicle toy line?  Will I be able to buy Red-Tails towels, underwear, toothbrushes, bed sheets, cereal and toasters as well?

Seriously though, I'd like to read or watch the reaction from the real Tuskegee airmen once they have seen the film.  Not sure how many are still alive.

except for coffee table books and other stuff, won't be merchandising.  whats more likely - and worse - is we'll get more 'interviews' with lucas going out of his way to differentiate himself by saying 'see - look, this movie is coming striaght from the heart, its not about the money'  and more pathetic straw-man nonsense about how 'hollywood would never do this, hollywood would try to exploit this for profit'.

but if this thing cost $58 million, maybe there will be merchandise - or TPM 3D will make up any shortfalls.

as far as the real Tuskegee airmen - im sure they will like it since the movie appears to be nothing more than a tribute to all their accomplishments.   But i'll laugh if they complain that the movie has a lot of action but not much of a story - or if it turns out all the characters and events are fictionalized.

BTW Hoth, I noticed you did not call him 'Luca$' (I still remember when the TFN moderators threaten to shut down the basher sanctuary unless we stopped calling him that.) - are you becoming a kinder, gentler hoth-nudist for 2012?  ;P

LOL!  Ooops!  Forgot the $!  Yep to me he's still Luca$!  I also remember the douchecookie-mods at TFN.  Havent been there in years and not planning anytime soon.  So Luca$ is going on "the daily show" eh?  I would love for jon stewart to ask him 'how many special editions does he plan for this one!"

What HASN’T changed on the 2011 OT SE Blu-ray release – the uncorrected mistakes...
Time

For ANH I would've liked to have seen more action from the Y-wings during the DS assault.  They dont do anything until the trench runs.  Some nice dog fighting to assist the x-wings would've been cool to see, along with strafing the DS surface and taking out cannons.

Same in ROTJ, except this time its the B-wings.  They dont do anything after they lock s-foils in attack position along with the x-wings.  And another thing that bugs me is when Lando tells everybody to "pull up", there should've been more depth between the fighters and DSII.  The fighters look huge and the DS small during the initial evasive maneuvers.  I think ILM did a better job with creating depth in ANH.

Peter Cushing appreciation thread

Great idea!  Along with peter's performance is SW, I also enjoyed his parts in classic horror films.  I think he was simply stellar as Sherlock Holmes.  Ive the collected works from BBC.  His best friend Christopher Lee also portrayed Sherlock Holmes and I also have those movies on DVD as well.   Ive read that off camera, he's a total gentleman.  It would have been a treat to sit down with him and listen to his life's experiences.

Heh.  Great grammar there, mr maturity.  I didnt start this crap.  I simply rooted for my team and was attacked.  There's nothing wrong with one defending one's team.  And quite frankly, after reading some of your guys' posts on this site, NONE of you have the right to judge what is "immature" or "grade school".

George "the animal" Steele was an entertaining wrestler!  Nobody could eat a turnbuckle like he did!

George C. Scott was an amazing actor!  His performances were stellar!

George Brett (my alltime favorite baseball player) was a great hitter and is a member of the baseball HOF!

George Thorogood is great rock singer!  "Bad to the bone" will forever be a staple for great rock songs!

George Harrison is my favorite of the ex-Beatles.  Great Lyricist!

I just watched it.    I thought it was pretty good.   After watching it, I have to feel sorry for Bartman.  He's been put through a lot for just one split second mistake.  I also have to feel sorry for Cubs fans who've been through so much heart break.  If the Bartman thing had happened in Philly,  he would have been disemboweled.

that said, I am still pissed off about the Phillies losing to the Cardinals.   All they had to do to win was score 2 runs in 9 innings.     But they couldn't do that.  They couldn't score 1 fucking run in game 5.  Not one fucking run!!!  I feel hitting all the Phillies players with a baseball bat, to show them how they should have treated the baseball in game 5.

thats because Chris Carpenter's pitching kicked the phillies asses!  Thats called a "shut out".  Give credit where credit's due.

Carpenter?  no.   Our hitters have been having problems for the last 2 seasons.   No disrespect to Carpenter intended,  but I could have pitched to our hitters and still kept to score reasonable.  The Phillies flat out can't hit.

HAHAHAHA! grow up dude!  Ur phillies were simply out-pitched, out-hit, out-managed, and out-classed.  102 wins? Ur overrated!  U can just sit home with the rest of the phillies fans and watch the Cardinals play in the WS!  It just kills u and other phillies fans to give out any sportsmanlike credit!  Get some class!
