Jedi Rocks is absolutely horrific. Whenever I watch ROTJ I mute my television out of embarrassment when Rocks comes on.

Has anyone ever made an Extended Edition of ROTJ with upscaled deleted scenes ala Bobson Dugnett’s ROTS Extended Cut?
When I was a kid I thought that Boba Fett was the leader of the Stormtroopers, and he was only with Jabba in ROTJ to make sure the Rebels didn’t steal Han back. I always pictured him kneeling before Palpatine right next to Moff Jerjerrod if he hadn’t died.
Not sure where it originated from, but back in the day, Fett’s armor was said to be that of a shocktrooper, predecessor of Stormtroopers and Fett was possibly a veteran of the Clone Wars.
Kind of more interesting than the backstory we got. 😉
Before Episode II the Clone Wars was so mysterious and strange. I like what we got in Eps. II and III, but it would’ve been interesting to see some of the other theories/concepts for the Clone Wars on the big screen.

I have my problems with TROS, but none of them can be solved via the power of fanediting, so minor changes like Leia having a purple saber, Palpatine red lightning, and the Knights of Ren actually having dialogue go a long way in giving me more enjoyment. But to each his own I guess. I should work on a minimalist cut of TROS that only makes minor tweaks and changes…

What kind of logic is that?? It’s still obviously force lighting, and given that Palpatine was rejuvenated by the Dyad, the red lightning is apart of that. It’s just more powerful force lightning. What makes it red? The force! It’s Star Wars! It’s really not hard at all. I sound like a broken record but you’re overthinking this way too much.
I’m just saying that if the movie came out in theatres that way, it would be confusing. It’s something new and different, with no introduction or setup, being introduced at the last possible moment.
Personally not a fan because of that. I guess the approach I try to make with any edit, fan or for work, is thinking story first, then cool looks. Doing something because it looks cool, even though it makes no sense, is kinda what gave us the mess that is Rise of Skywalker to begin with.
You’re making this way bigger than it actually is. I cannot understand for the life of me why you think this doesn’t make any sense.
Red lightning = more power. Even general audiences could understand that.
I just feel like the colour doesn’t explain anything, and forces us to ask questions without answers.
If the monochromatic Exegol is the problem, I think changing up the colours of the planet, temple, or even just the mist/fog would better break up the blue than to introduce new powers/looks for established powers.
What questions does it force you to ask? It’s literally simple.

I just think the red lightning provides a good contrast to the blue of Exegol, and would maybe explain a bit better how it was able to disable a whole fleet.
I personally love the red lightning idea- ties into The Son from Clone Wars and provides a nice contrast to the blue of Exegol.
TROS could’ve been fine if it was longer. Pairing Chris Terrio, who is known for long, messy scripts that always create movies over 2.5 hours, with JJ Abrams, who doesn’t like movies longer than 2.5 hours, is just a bad combination. That’s why TROS has such poor pacing and editing. Too much plot to get through in not enough time.
I think ROTJ has some really strong moments, some of the best in the entire Trilogy in fact. But at the same time, it also has some of the weakest.
The Hobbit Trilogy is underrated and on par with the LOTR Trilogy. Peter Jackson & co did a fantastic job of telling the core story of the Hobbit, while also introducing so many new elements. Showing us the White Council and Gandalf’s Investigation of Dol Guldur mentioned in the Return of the King Appendices was a great use of those materials along with a great way to tie the story of The Hobbit closer to LOTR. Jackson & co also did a fantastic job of distinguishing all 13 dwarves from each other and making them unique, something that the novel struggled with.
Also An Unexpected Journey is better than The Two Towers.
Are there any “extended cut” fan edits out there? For example, something like the Darklighter Cut, that just integrates deleted scenes back into the film.
Abrams and Terrio are both competent writers, they were just poor choices for Episode IX. They tried to please everyone, make a crowd-pleasing movie that made everyone feel warm and fuzzy inside, but that’s not how it works. Attempting to please all factors involved and injecting your movie with fanservice is never a good idea. It only worked on TFA because of competent character writing from Arndt and Kasdan.

Nothing made up. Paxton Solo was a real name for a real character. Look up Alien Exodus, it was a canned novel written by Robert Sawyer. Pretty interesting stuff.
Not really. While Lucas was distracted with working on Indiana Jones with Spielberg, Irvin Kershner shot Empire in such a way that when George Lucas came back to edit it, he pretty much had no choice but to follow Irvin’s ideas. Very few takes were shot, and among the ones that were shot, there wasn’t a whole lot of variety. While George Lucas wrote the broad strokes of the story, the final product become much more of an Irvin Kershner movie than a George Lucas movie.
Like JakeRyan said, Lucas’s complete lack of control over Empire was a huge influence on RotJ. He took a lot more control over RotJ and hired a much weaker director (Richard Marquand) who wouldn’t pull the kind of stuff Irvin Kershner pulled. This is why I think RotJ feels a lot more Lucas-y than the other two movies. I think this is also why Empire is George Lucas’s least favorite Star Wars movie.
I don’t mean to downplay George Lucas’s contribution to the OT. This isn’t an early 2010s conspiracy theory about how XYZ rando was the REAL creator of Star Wars. But we shouldn’t swing too hard the other direction either. Even ignoring his rocky relationship to Empire, the idea that he was a sole visionary force behind the Original Trilogy is wrong. Most movies are group projects, and hell, Star Wars is the example I usually go to for this, where so many people were putting their ideas for Star Wars, sometimes directly against George Lucas’s wishes, that are now some of the most important aspects of Star Wars. Which is why when the prequels rolled around and George Lucas was in complete control, and all these other creatives were either dead or had had a falling out with Lucas, to most people the movies felt like they were missing something integral to Star Wars.
Marquand did still bring his own contributions to RotJ, even if minor. If I remember correctly the claustrophobic feel of Jabba’s Palace was one of his big contributions, along with attempting to show Vader’s emotions behind the mask.
Alien Exodus is how humanoid species arrived in the Star Wars Galaxy, but due to lack of hard evidence the theory is mostly discredited by galactic scholars as a fictional story. The Imperial Officer who gave Han his last name had read about Alien Exodus on the Holo-Net the night before, and gave Han Paxton Solo’s last name.
