There is no merit to Greedo shooting at all, but there is merit to him saying Maclunkey.

Looks fantastic! I know this thread is already cluttered with people asking for links, but I’d also love one, too.
Ohhhh! That makes sense! Very interesting. Mystery solved then!
Having re-watched the movie recently for the first time in awhile, I can safely say I really love it. Now, it isn’t perfect, (no SW movie is), but it is still really good. I don’t hate Palpatine coming back at all, in fact I quite like it, I just wish that it was part of the outline back in 2014 so it could be hinted at in VII and VIII, but that’s entirely wishful thinking with hindsight. As mentioned by others on this thread, Exegol and zombie Palpatine are fantastic, and Snoke being an artificial creation of Palpatine isn’t a bad explanation by any means, better than not even being mentioned like in CT’s script. Rey being a Palpatine is fine, I didn’t like her being a nobody anyway, plus pointing out the reshot scenes is fun.
My biggest complaint is probably the cut scenes honestly. Unlike other heavily re-edited movies like Suicide Squad, the chopped up footage isn’t very extremely noticeable here, and alot of the cuts feel fairly natural or have creative transitions. The first act is by far the weakest and is also the most heavily edited, so that makes sense. Animatronic Maz doesn’t look the best, compared to CG Maz she moves far slower, but it is impressive the amount of detail they were able to give her.
Overall I’d give this movie an 8/10, it’s a fantastic end to the Saga and Sequel Trilogy, and is just a fantastic movie in general. It suffers from over-editing, but not to a horrible extent and the film still manages to carry itself. The characters are charismatic as hell, the locations are vibrant and more creative than in JJ’s other SW outing, and the villains are definitely more competent and threatening than in Episode VIII. Here’s to hoping we someday get some deleted scenes so we can make an unofficial extended edition.
Well, I’ve found something.
Courtesy of my cousin, one of my christmas gifts was ‘The Star Wars Archives. 1977-1983’ by Paul Duncan. I was just reading through it and came across this photo; as it’s from LFL archives, I doubt I’ll find it online, so I took a photo of it.
The caption for the image reads: “Han, Luke, and Chewbacca surrounded by Gamorrean guards. In the background right a man-in-lights walks by, as reference for the Lava Man creature, which was not included in the movie.”
So, it’s a ‘lava man’. They MUST have had concept art for that… what the hell does a creature made out of lava look like??
Woah. Okay, now I NEED to buy this book. Rinzler’s Making Of Trilogy clearly isn’t enough! Anyway, I’ve started looking for “Lava man” concept art, but no luck yet, still more to go through.
Shadows Of The Empire
Tartakovsky’s Clone Wars
The Han Solo Adventures
The Lando Calrissian Adventures
Only EU material I actually enjoy. The rest I could care less about/disslike heavily.
See J.W. Rinzler’s conversation with Rick Worley for more details.
Great interview, thanks for sharing.
George had nearly all of The Empire Strikes Back written before Lawerence Kasdan polished it up. See J.W.
Well that was already known and Rinzler discussed it in detail in his book. Even Kasdan basically confirmed that by saying: “The structure of the story was all there–it was the skeleton for a movie. What was needed was the flesh and the muscle.”
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: George is good when it comes to writing a general story outline, but horrible when it comes to dialogue and character arcs. Kasdan came on and was the guy who really fleshed out the dialogue and characters, as he did with Jedi. Had Lucas gotten Kasdan or someone who was half decent at writing dialouge for the Prequels they would’ve atleast been slightly more enjoyable.
There’s absolutly no mention of any lightman in the 1981 script that I could find, or the revised '82 script either. If it were to occur anywhere, it’d be somewhere in this small section. Although not written anywhere, I’d imagine the Lightman would be a guide through the darker areas of the Palace.
9 INT DUNGEON CORRIDOR
One of Jabba’s Gamorrean guards marches Artoo and Threepio down a dank, shadowy passageway lined with holding cells. The cries of unspeakable creatures bounce off the cold stone walls. Occasionally a repulsive arm or tentacle grabs through the bars at the hapless droids. Artoo beeps pitifully.
And that scene/segment is in the movie, so no mention of the Lightman whatsoever in the script. I checked the Lost Media wiki, nothing there either. This scene is truly a specter.
Such a tiny amount of detail about this guy. It seems everything that’s public knowledge about the Lightman has been shared on this thread already 2 posts in. A true oddity that such an advanced alien creature has a total of 2 photos and 4 seconds of test footage released. Hell, the deleted scene that Lightman is from sounds incredibly interesting itself, leading Threepio through the dark areas of Jabba’s Palace? I’d love to see that!
In Return of the Jedi, there was supposed to be some sort of luminescent alien creature that guides Threepio deep into the darkness of Jabba the Hutt’s palace. This scene was eventually cut due to not fitting the pace of the edited movie, but what was the scene actually supposed to be? I’ve never been able to find more than 2 photos of the on-set suit and the information I mentioned above. My question is how did they intend to make this scene look real? The photos of Lightman show a man in a race suit covered in lightbulbs, were they planning on replacing him with a stop-motion creature? Was this some early form of motion capture? Also, what was this scene even intended for? Leading Threepio into the depths of Jabba’s Palace? For what? When was this scene even supposed to take place within the movie? So many questions, so few answers. If any of you know anything about this scene, I’d love to know, because this is certainly an oddity to me. I even looked through Rinzler’s Making of ROTJ and there was no mention of it.
Is that all still canon? Not suggesting it’s been replaced, just wasn’t sure it was addressed anywhere in current canon.
It’s still Canon, but only mentioned in ancillary material.
I’m really hoping they finally show the Sith Temple underneath the Jedi Temple, or just showing the Jedi Temple being converted into the Imperial Palace. Both of those things are something I’ve dreamt of seeing on some form of visual medium for years now.
Honestly this is probably my most anticipated show. I LOVED the Bad Batch Arc from Season 7, and I’ve been dying for a proper continuation/sequel to Clone Wars that hopefully involves some of the canned plotlines from Seasons 6, 7, and 8 of TCW. I will be watching this show very closely.
It’s the same Sequel Trilogy you know, love or hate, and argued over for 5 years, only slightly different!
I would like to start this off by saying that this is the first time I’ve ever edited anything, so bear with me as this is definitely going to be a trial and error process. Despite this, I am determined to see this edit completed in a high quality manner. Now with that out of the way, let me begin discussing what this edit actually is. The Enhanced Edition of the Sequel Trilogy is a fanfix edit of the Trilogy that aims to establish greater continuity throughout all three films, and properly set up the big Palpatine reveals in Episode 9. Think of this as a Sequel Trilogy Special Edition, only done in a tasteful manner that doesn’t distract from the theatrical films, adding in only light and minor hints for what is to come. The goal for this edit is to create a version of the trilogy that feels like the theatricals and sticks with the Canon, while also avoiding the disjointed-ness of the theatricals. This is done out of love for all three films, as I want to be able to appreciate both Abrams and Johnson’s visions without feeling like certain plotpoints came out of nowhere. Before I begin listing the changes I plan on making, I want to thank both Hal9000 and Poppasketti, who not only created a vast majority of changes on this list and allowed them to be used by the rest of us, but also inspired me to make my own fan edits, so if you guys see this, big thanks to you! And now, onto the changes:
EPISODE VII: THE FORCE AWAKENS
EPISODE VIII: THE LAST JEDI
EPISODE IX: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER
Currently these are all the changes I plan on making, and this list is obviously not finalized, so feel free to leave advise or suggestions if you have any. I will update this page when the edits are finally finished, as I feel the changes are too small to crate individual threads for them. As of right now I don’t have any estimate for when this’ll be released, but as I get deeper into working on this and more efficient at editing, I’ll have a good estimate for when it will be out. Until then, thank you for reading, and may the force be with you all!
Recoloring Snoke’s golden playboy robe black is most definitely something I’m highly interested in.
Film a new scene to further add to the Palpatine - Vader hologram scene where Vader talks to Palpatine’s secretary and waits on hold for 3 minutes until Palpatine appears.
Is there any way to further hint/establish that Starkiller Base is Ilum? I know it’s Canon because of Fallen Order & the TROS VD, but is there a way to make that clearer in the film itself? Like maybe adding Kyber Crystal growths around the forest Rey and Kylo fight in, or some type of giant Kyber Crstyal reactor in the Thermal Oscillator?
Hux attempting to undermine Kylo’s rule was something I predicted when walking out of the theater after seeing TLJ, granted I excepted a coup-attempt and not giving intel to the Resistance and freeing our heroes from capture. Still it’s the closest I got to predicting anything correctly in TROS.
Episode IX is better than Episode VIII, but Episode VIII is still miles better than the PT.
Nothing happening in Mando changes how poorly the SE change you refer to was done.
As much as I would like to keep continuity with Mando, the Morrison voice dub is awful, plain and simple.
Never knew about Black Friday before, that’s incredibly interesting and saddening.
add this V.O to yoda meditation scene on Polis Massa in ROTS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWUWoJG3rT4
This is the best thing I’ve seen on the internet ever. Hands down.
If you want to re-create them, the font family to use is something in the Franklin Gothic/Trade Gothic/News Gothic family, semicondensed, semibold. You can get something very close with that. I don’t know about the PT’s, but the ST’s have “sharp corners” on the letters, which would be well-reproduced by your standard digital font. I’m afraid I don’t have anything to offer but that.
Alright, thanks. I’m currently looking for sources other than D+ (especially for TPM, they massacred the look of that film), so hopefully they should have them, but this info will be useful if I cant find any good alternatives.
Let’s go one step further with the Han-Greedo confrontation. Instead of shooting second, first, or at the same time, Han doesn’t shoot at all, and he doesn’t break his neck. Greedo shoots him and he dies, and then steals the Falcon. Replace Han with Greedo for the entire rest of the Saga, color Ben Solo green, and change his last name from Solo to Greedo.
So, I’m in the process of putting together multiple fanedits for both PT and ST films, and I’m using the D+ versions of the films either for reference, certain scenes/clips, or because they’re the most convenient versions of the SW films for me to get ahold of because all of my DVDs are old or lost. But to my dismay in re-watching them, I discovered that the classic, bold font white burnt-in alien subtitles have been scrubbed off from the D+ versions, and to an even bigger dismay, my TROS Blu-Ray was missing them as well! This annoys me greatly because not only are these hard-coded subtitles a staple of Star Wars, but they’re also in the version of the OT that I watch, so it creates an inconsistency. I was just wondering if anyone here had a file for these subtitles, or clips of the scenes that they’re in, or a website to easily add them, just something, someway that allows me to put them in my edits, because I won’t be satisfied till they’re in there. If you know of a way for me to get my hands on 'em, it would be greatly appreciated!
