EDIT: Sorry, that was supposed to be a PM.

Yeah, that would be cool. Maybe a few frames if you could.
Also, here's the Ben ghost scene as it's supposed to be - in the WP the colors of it are all messed up:

Don't pay attention to the audio.
Well, I guess I could maybe use something from it but given the inherent limitations of P&S, I doubt it could be useful for much beyond maybe using a still from it of one of the small SDs in the background.
Yeah, I tried that before but it really doesn't work. I will however definitely try to improve the quality of those shots for the final release. It was the last thing I did for the WP and I didn't have time to give it a proper treatment.
There's no GOUT footage there, it's the 97SE.
Actually, in the Executor reveal, it's more about the irreversibly crushed blacks. I found that unfortunately ESB is generally much worse off in this regard (both crushed blacks and blown out whites) than SW.
I will definitely put some more work into the Executor reveal shots - they come from '97SE and the dirt is exactly the same as on GOUT, so I asume it was always there, nevertheless, I will probably attempt to clean the shots up somewhat and maybe look into some other sources as well.
Oh, yeah, that's another mistake with the cropping. I will put a consistent mask over the whole video in the final render, so I'm not worried about that.
I am using a cooling pad. I could try turning off the Intel Turbo Boost software for the AE rendering - it's gonna take longer to render but if it helps, it'd definitely be worth it.
And that matte around Ben's ghost is definitely a mistake - I forgot to turn one layer back on there - it should look like it does in the shot with the taun-taun appearing.
Well, since this reddish kind of ghosting is present on every version of the ESB crawl I've ever seen, it seems likely it was always that way and is also why I made no attempt to remove it.
It's straight from the BluRay.
The crawl's not SD in the workprint nor in v1.0.
Well, because the recompositing in those SW scenes didn't change the look of those shots as significantly as it did here (where it did change the look significantly, the shots were also replaced - like most of the fighter explosions in the Yavin battle).
And the shots in ESB are not simple GOUT upconverts either - just go ahead and compare these shots to the GOUT.
Well, I'm sure that as soon as they are ready, h_h will post links for everyone and you guys will be able to use it too. :-)
Díky :-)

p.s. Just noticed the first one is .mkv format ("ESB-v2.0-WP1-R1.mkv") and the mirror is in a .m2ts container ("ESB WP1 reel1.m2ts")…just curious, are both the same video content?
Oh, crap. I uploaded the wrong file there. The m2ts doesn't have sound, so if you're downloading that, you'll need to download the audio separately from here and mux it in yourselves.
OK, here's a mirror: http://79i9la.1fichier.com/en/
Yes, I definitely want it to have the same chapter stops as the GOUT DVD.
So, last year I released SW v2.0 on my birthday. This year I wanted to release v2.5 on this day but it didn't work out, so I decided to do something else to celebrate my birthday and release a workprint of reel 1 of The Empire Strikes Back v2.0.
Because I had a pre-set release date, I couldn't quite polish it as much as I wanted, so it is very much a work in progress and I already spotted quite a few blunders (including quite a few rendering errors, which are already there in the lossless render from After Effects - if anyone knows what could be causing these kind of bugs and how to avoid them, please help!) - it should nevertheless give you a fair idea of what ESB v2.0 will be like.
I'd of course like you to report any problems you find (at this point, all is game, even color). Please use the time code from the WP when reporting problems :-)

I actually think George did a great thing when he shot episodes 2 and 3 digitally - I do think that digital film making is a great thing at the quality level it reached now, because it can be artistically freeing - look at Slumdog Millionaire for example. And in order to get the development started to get to the quality level it reached now, someone had to make that first step and shoot a big budget movie digitally, even though it looked shitty compared to 35mm and will forever be stuck at 1080p.
What I'm really getting at is, that I think that George Lucas did the world of cinema a huge favor, when he made that first step with shooting two of the shittiest big budget Hollywood flicks ever made - it is definitely a much smaller loss than something like Lord of the Rings trilogy being forever stuck to a shitty quality like that.
@imperialscum: Because 70mm requires heavy cumbersome equipment and is really expensive.
re TFN: Well, I totally understand these people thinking this. They do after all believe all the crap George tells them about other stuff as well.
AE can do a really good job on this - it even has a match grain function, which samples the grain from a chosen shot and applies the same kind of grain to your footage.

Yeah, I'd say download v2.1 of SW (or wait for 2.5, which should be out soon but it will only be a pretty small improvement over v2.1 - mostly things you'll never notice if you've not seen the original since the 80s) and watch v1.0 of ESB and ROTJ, because v2.0s are still quite a long way away for those two and the v1.0s are finished products, it's not like they're some half arsed attempts - it's only that v2.0s will be even better - I'd say that for ESB and ROTJ downloading the v2.0 will be kind of like buying the remastered BD of Casablanca - the first release was perfectly ok and adequate, but the remastered is even better.
