Well, seeing as how the first Hobbit movie sucked and from the trailer it seems that the second one is going to suck even harder, and we don't know how good/bad Ep.7 will be, it is a distinct possibility ;-)

Could I maybe just get a link to the Polish .srt subtitles? Polish is rather similar to Czech, so maybe it could help me with the Czech translation.

While I understand that you'd rather use a 1080p version for this project, you must realize that the number of pixels isn't always everything - for example, the aforementioned Ady's 1080p color corrected version has less detail than the 720p DeEd, because of compression, so if you zoomed in and cropped that, you'd still get worse results than when using the DeEd.

Also, I never said there was no loss of detail (because there is) only that it is minimal - definitely much less than there should be between a proper 1080p transfer and a 720p downscale.

That's possible? That would maker syncing the VHS rips of the Czech dubs so much easier!

I really hope there won't be any old characters coming back as force ghosts. That was one of the things I really liked about Zahn's books - he recognized the stupidity of the scene in ROTJ, where Obi-Wan, instead of being a disembodied voice or a flickering apparition, appeared as a ghost to rest his but on a stone and have a whole expository conversation with Luke and so Zahn had Obi-Wan appear to Luke one last time telling Luke that he's moving on and Luke will have to deal with what's coming on his own.

It really cheapens the death of a character, when you  can just bring them back whenever it's convenient - it kinda worked in ESB, because it was handled pretty tastefully but I think that on the whole, it's a pretty cheap plot device and it would be even worse to use it just to give the dead characters some kind of a cameo. Plus, imagine the horror if they brought Hayden back as Anakin's ghost... Urgh!

Yeah - and it doesn't seem to be actually HD, or at least so compressed, that the extra detail just isn't there.

The '04 version isn't really suffering from any kind of heavy DVNR. It has many flaws but with the exception of a few shots, DVNR isn't really one of them.

Well, that's the point really - v2.0 could be done in like a month and serve as a kind of workprint while at the same time it would be a full-fledged release to replace v1.0 - getting it to the same level of despecialization as SW v2.5 will probably take much longer.

And it wouldn't really slow me down at all, except for the time it takes to render the AVCHD (v2.0 would in this case probably only be an AVCHD) because everything I would be doing, I'd have to do for a full blown v2.5 version anyway.

OK, so  while I'm waiting for hairy_hen to have the audio files ready for me, I started doing some work on ESB.

Now, here's the plan for ESB (and consequently for Jedi as well):

ESB and ROTJ v1.0's picture quality now seems horribly inadequate compared to SW v2.x, mainly because of the encoding but also because of some black level issues and stuff like that, so after the first color correction pass, I was originally gonna do a quick v1.5 AVCHD, which would have had just the v1.0 despecializations but new color correction and the BD as a source as well as far superior encoding, like the new versions of SW to have an equally high picture quality version out there until v2.0 is done.

But then I thought that it may be better to do just a little more than that, like redo the few shots I'm quite unhappy with in v1.0 from scratch and despecialize a few more still obvious SE changes and call this version a v2.0, because then I can make the definitive version be a v2.5 and have the version numbering be the same as with SW, which could help avoid unnecessary confusion.

Well, now the Blu-Ray 6.1 mix is intended to be the definitive version, so that's not really saying much ;-)

Yeah, I noticed that too - pretty horrible - and it was one of my favorites growing up, so a remaster would be nice :-)

Yeah, probably - I checked and even the AVCHD looks miles better. :-)

It's an interesting observation anyway. It is the kind of film, where you can always find something new when you watch it :-)
