What about constant CAPS? I'm just kidding.

I think we should start a petition for the release of the entire score of AOTC. I would like to hear the whole thing. I own all the scores for the original trilogy and never thought of owning any of the PT scores until reading this thread.

Also, does anyone think that the battlefield genosis scenes would have been better suited if they were more 'Imperial March' heavy? I mean, I know the editor was patching together sound cues from TPM and AOTC, but if you are going to cut and paste why not use all 5 films as source material?

Well, I took the VOB file straight from the DVD and then seperated the audio and video, clipped a few frames from the video and then remux'd them back together. I used TMPGEnc DVD authoring program and it said the bitrate was outside the readible amount for standard DVD players.

But I thank you for all the information Mike. I think it is great that you bother to reply to all our questions about this.

Mike I noticed on your site that you state you use Adobe After Effects software. Is this the only software you use? And are you able to take the straight raw files and edit them, or do you have to convert like the rest of us?

Also, I did an edit on some footage from the DVD the other night and when I went to burn it for a test it said that the audio and video bit stream would add together to be too much. I understand this concept, but don't understand how Lucasfilm was able to do it, and I'm not.

Idea: About De-SEizing the DVDs... We need to Vote on Changes!
Time
I just wanted to give this a bump because I was about to start on using the DVD to make an Original Star Wars cut. Can we have concise list of what needs[/b to be done. Little stuff of course may not be able to be fixed (droid floating around) simply because it would require hours of matte work. But I'm not ruling it out. So, can someone give me a list of the changes that need to be done.

Attempt to restore the original 20th Century Fox logos (Released)
Time
Ok, well I have completely restored the opening logo up until the point of STAR WARS using Adobe Premiere. I had to leave off the sound because it increases the file size exponentially. Also, the artifacting you see is because I compressed the video. A straight stream does not have these problems.

Also, are we all in agreement that we should use the original Alfred Newman sound?

That is great work, Molly. I had done one awhile back in hopes of fixing up that Fox Intro logo. The lucasfilm and Long time ago logos are both availible on the Empire of Dreams disc. All the files have to be stabilized, which is easier said than done. To stabilize it, you have to go frame by frame and make sure the image does not shift up or down at all. Basically, it would easiest to create a slideshow and open it in Adobe photoshop, make sure all the frames lay over top each other, and then export it using Adober Premiere

Anyways, here is a scaled down version of the cleaned up Fox Logo I made using an old LD rip. The artifacts are only there because of the XVID quality.

Qui Gon's death.
Time
I wonder it Lucas will ever release Special Editions of the prequels. I think that if you just look at MF's edits, simple corrections can make these films enjoyable. What does this have to do with Qui Gon's death? I would imagine that simply filming a scene with Liam Neeson or merely having a CGI Yoda meditating and observing Qui Gon's spirit would correct any lingering problem's with plot.

It's on the bonus DVD.

Moll.

Exactly. I had the audio clip linked in my 'Sound Help' thread, but from the responses no one must have seen it.

Info Wanted: What do you guys think is (or will be) the best transfer to DVD format?

Then when Mike presents the screen grabs from his version, I will more than likely declare his the best.

If you are talking about LD transfers, then I don't think any will be better than the others...just diffrent. Colors will vary, sharpness and the such will all be diffrent from one version to the next.

Empire of Dreams - Sound editing help.
Time
Well, here is another problem I am having.

I'm trying to create a score only track for ESB using only the John Williams SE Soundtracks that were recently re-released. Only problem? It doesn't match up. Even at the very beginning. I tried laying the score over top the left and right channels of the film itself, to see what it would have looked like if Lucas hadn't cut them out, and the first 8 minutes of the film don't match up. If you line it up at the beginning, it doesn't lineup at the end and visa versa. It is quite frustrating.

Anyone else try this and/or find a problem?

Empire of Dreams - Sound editing help.

Alright, I’ve been playing around with some of the deleted scenes from ‘Empire of Dreams’ and one that really fascinated me was the extended dialogue of Obi-Wan vs Vader.

Well, after applying many filters and adjusting various levels I’ve taken out all the camera noise. The only problem is that I can’t seem to get a fuller sound out of Sir AG voice to match the rest of the scene. I’m posting this MP3 of what is now the completed track. If anyone can listen to it, and think of anything to fix it I would appreciate it.

And it clearly seems Vader is surprised once Obi-Wan vanishes. (Otherwise, why is he stepping on Obi-Wan's cloak trying to figure out what happened???)

Yes, but in the original script, or as it was originally filmed, the exchange goes.

'Your powers are weak, old man'
'You can't win Darth. If my blade should find it's mark, you shall cease to exist. If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you could possible imagine'

Which makes alot more sense, because I never understood Obi-Wan saying 'You can't win', because he only presents one side of Vader's lose-lose situation.

Remember, even though in EPI Qui Gonn is Obi-Wan's master, Yoda is the one that finishes his training. Qui Gonn was a student of the Universal Force (I believe some have referred to it as) while Yoda is a student of the Living Force. Thus, I always believed Yoda and Obi-Wan merely became one with the Force that surrounds them.

Magnolia, did you give any thought into reinserting the dialogue from the trailer of "I've heard this lesson before Master," "Yes, but you haven't learned anything"?

I just wondered, cause I punched it up on Adobe Premiere and it turned out pretty good. You have to extend the speed of the clip alittle bit so that it isn't quick cuts, but laying the tram passing by soundeffect overtop what residual music is left makes it seem like it fits right back into the film.

Anyways, can't wait to see the new version. Any chance you will give us a list of what is new?

Why not? If he wants to have a message board where he can directly interact with the people that are following his work AND general off topic stuff, I think he should go for it.
