Thanks

Alot of people don't know about it, and it was a cut I worked on for a very long time. The problem is that in the trailer, they 'quick cut' from line to line. Meaning the 'but' it cut out and it's a real quick jump from Anakin to Obi Wan. There is also the music in the background from the trailer. I had it almost perfect before I got 'the virus' that wiped out my video drive. Anyways, if anyone wants to try it, as I've abandoned any such cut, is to take the scene. Somehow add an extra few frames in of Anakin after he finishes his line. Try slowing the last second down after he finishes his words to make it about 2 seconds or something like that. Anyways, to solve the music problem, I simply applied the background noises of the 'tram' passing by, starting in the front channels and ending in the back,so it matches the camera. I had it almost perfect, too. Curse my metal body, I wasn't fast enough.

As for the line being cut, it referred back to a plot point that was removed from EP I and Lucas needed to cut time here and there.

I probably would PayPal one of our great editors here to put together a GREAT DVD quality extended cut of EPII as I've gotten far too lazy to do it.

MagnoliaFan Edits: Ep I "Balance Of The Force", and Ep II "The Clone War" (Released)

I was just about to come in here and post that there are alot of lines that can be lifted from Batman and would fit perfectly in your edits. Heck, I even thought that you could use some of them as a voice over during the 'stare far away' scene in the Temple, having Qui Gon speak to Anakin before he makes his final decent.

Problems Adding deleted scenes back into AOTC

I did this with Phantom Menace and I didn't have any problems, but with AOTC the deleted scenes are 29.97fps and the movie is 23.976. Not real sure how to go about converting these files. I'm thinking I need to ivtc them?

Are you sure? I don't know why Lucasfilm would change framerates on the deleted scenes, as they are just finished scenes that were cut after weeks into postproduction.

Also, when you did this for TPM, did it work? I mean, I would think the wipes and such wouldn't work with just a cut and paste job. I would think you'd have to recreate the wipes.

And for that matter, if anybody complains about the quality at the theatre, make a point of going to a DLP theatre. The one I saw in Daytona was the best cinematic experience I've had since seeing The Empire Strikes Back on opening day.

</old fart>

Good point. However, I saw it on both and I wouldn't make the trip again to see it DLP. There wasn't that much of a difference if the projectionist knows what he is doing.

My point is, this is the last Star Wars film. It's alittle disheartening for me to see that the day this DVD internal hits the net, the numbers for ROTS start taking a bigger hit. I mean, if you hate George Lucas and think he's already rich enough, fine. But just don't see the movie then. It's not like these are fan edits and you already own the originals.

Ah well, we could go round and round about this thing AGAIN and we will all still feel the same way we do.

Now here's something you don't see every day...

George had lost a good bit of weight in 2003. He was looking pretty good then. This could just be because he has his head pulled back tight to his neck.

Harrison Ford needs to shave. I don't know why you would put on a tux and not shave.

Mark Hammill still looks as good as he did in ROTJ and would make an excellent Alec Guiness type figure in a new trilogy.

***The "Darth Editous" Episode IV DVD Info and Feedback Thread*** - a partially "de-specialed" DVD

The quality on any fan edit will always be less than the DVDs. Think of the DVD as first generation. You have to take it onto your computer to edit. That's the second generation. Then, you recompress it and put it back onto a DVD, third generation. You loose data each time. It's unavoidable.

Not for the reason you imply. He disliked that his newfound popularity was due mainly to this sci-fi cult film, rather than his earlier, and rather spectacular, body of work.

Yeah, I'm sure that today, most people remember him for his work on Star Wars, and it could get rather frustrating to be typecast as Obi-Wan Kenobi for the rest of your life.

Yeah, but I don't think Alec Guiness would have ever had that problem. He made alot of great films in the US and the UK before Star Wars. It'd be like saying Liam Neeson will always be typcast as Qui Gonn or Ewan McGregor as Obi Wan.

CGI Yoda for TPM

Ric, those are exactly my thoughts on that particular subject.

As for CGI Yoda, I don't really see the point in it. If it is indeed a warm up for Episode III, than it's just like the SE, as they were a warm up for the Episode I. I suppose it would add some continuety, but given what Yoda does in the film, does it really matter?

Yeah, because the puppet in TPM looks terrible.

Vader's core is a bit wide because he is still swinging down, where as Luke has halted a bit. Also, if you think THAT is off color, wait until you see the scene before it.

And yes, the slug is still there. I haven't got the sabers fixed yet, so I am leaving the hood for last as I can simple past a non-slugged edge of each frame in a matter of minutes.

CGI Yoda for TPM
Time
Well, George still talks as if he has had the stuff you see in ROTS in his mind now for 30 years. I've not really heard him talk about having the first two in his mind, except the idea of the 'Clone War'. As he said, a marketing firm would have told him to start the prequels with ROTS and then fill in the next two films with the 20 years between the films. That's not the way he wanted to do it. Well, hats off to him, even if the story would have been better the other way.

CGI Yoda for TPM
Time
As a tune up for working on Episode III, and to make sure all the new programmers new how to animate the little green guy, the people at ILM were instructed by Lucas to replace the puppet in The Phantom Menace completely. They were to have it completed by the time he got them the footage from Sydney for ROTS. This was over 2 years ago. So don't think that in this release in November, a CGI Yoda won't be in it.

That will atleast make the film 2% better. Only 42% more to go.

Can a mod please move this to general discussion?

Now THAT'S cinema!!!!

Now, see....I can see the humor in that statement, however Qui Gon, Yoda, Ben and Anakin are eventually supposed to be the only ones who possess this power.
