Idea: The Spy Who Loved Me 'retro-izing' - fan edit?
Time

I know this sounds like a long shot, but I was wondering if anyone out there had ever thought of redo-ing some of the musical cues for The Spy Who Loved Me. It’s a decent Moore film, but I always get taken out of it when they play ‘70s’ style musical cues. I wondered if someone could take classic themes from Dr. No, Thunderball, From Russia With Love, and Goldfinger and place them over it?

Use Thunderball themes during underwater scenes.
Use FRWL during train scenes
Use Goldfinger during the big fight in the Command Center
Use Dr. No themes in the bad guys underwater HQ.

Just a thought to make the film alittle bettter.

Here's some more duel Dialogue. There is a pop that for the LIFE OF ME I can't figure out why it is there. Everytime I go to search the sound file, I can't get rid of it. Of course, I am dealing with MP3s off the web, and any edits would strictly be from the source material center channel audio.

Destiny Video

I found the "Your destiny lies with me" part alone.

Your destiny lies with me

Just add Obiwan at the end and, there you go.

Thanks. I've found with changing the Speed and pitch, adding bass and what not to Vader's dialogue, it gives it originality rather than having it pasted from another movie.

I think it the Vader duel, we need Vader to say something as he is stomping on ObiWan's cloak. I always hated that silence as Obi Wan is giving up and right after it. I added the "If you only knew.." which helped before, but him stomping around just looks silly...no final word, nothing. Just a 'huh...oh well' type factor now.

I was thinking of adding, "You have failed, master" or something like that. If only he had said "It is finished" at one point.

Why do they go into exile?
Time
Many of you know that I do not hate the PT, but am more than willing to point out it's flaws. That said, here is one that I just started to dwell on alittle bit more and it bugs me. I know Lucas had to have 3 leave off so that 4 worked. That's a given. However, explain this:

Yoda and Obi Wan split up to go kill the two Sith. Obi Wan battles Anakin, defeats him and believes that Anakin is dead. One Sith gone. Yoda goes toe to toe with Darth Sidieous and eventually backs down to run away. He says he is going to go into exile. Returns to the Tantive where Obi Wan eventually shows up. Now, the belief between them HAS to be that Vader is dead. Sure, in the 19 years in between, they'll realize that Vader was NOT in fact dead, but at that moment, we have to assume that Obi Wan believes he was successful.

So, with two powerful, healthy Jedi...why did they not go confront the Emperor and end the Empire in it infancy? Surely Obi Wan and Yoda had to assume they would have a better chance of killing Sidious than Anakin's offspring. The twins were kept in secret from the Emperor at the end of III not from Vader. Their focus should have been on finishing the job, not waiting 20 years so they could be old and less powerful, but have two other younger Jedi. Yoda and Obi Wan were as strong with the Force as they were ever going to be...so why not do what was neccessary, instead of putting all the pressure on Luke?

I wonder if Lucas even realized that, or just thought it wrapped up neatly for ANH? I mean, I'm not a Lucas basher, but that is a pretty big leap.

I was rewatching it and plugging in various other quotes and I came up with:

Obi Wan (off screen): You can not escape your destiny, Anakin...
Vader : Your Destiny lies with me, Obi Wan
**saber clash***

Luke and Han run out
Obi Wan looks over and grins

Vader:
You don't know the Power of the Dark Side

Swings and kills Obi Wan

Still working on it.

That or

Obi Wan (off screen): Anakin...
Vader : For the last time, HE is no more
**saber clash***

I think that since ANH is the beginning of the second trilogy, just as TPM is...whether this is a 'saga' or not, trying to mirror QGJ's death scene and ObiWan's death scene would be good. Use the music the way they did in TMP in that scene. I don't remember how that was, but I know Obi Wan screams no as QGJ is stabbed. Take that as a cue.

Something about Endor, if Luke isn't in it...it should be cut down drastically. While Leia of course is a major part of the Skywalker clan, this story while about 'the Twins' redeeming their father really is about Luke becoming the Jedi that Anakin was destined to be. The drama and focus should be centered on them, with the Rebellion being the background filler.

I finally saw your clip -- and I love it. Your cut of the action is much more to my taste than the previously posted version. The mix seems similarly "hot" on music though. I think the comments by Commander Courage are accurate -- the build and release of the music feels rushed, especially as the droids walk and when Han takes off. The moment when Ben dies needs a pause, I think. Some quiet for Luke to shout into. THe original cues from ANH were damn good, I always thought. It's just that for the Saga, most of your music choices are better.

Good work!

On that notion, you could always try to work the music to the point when Obi Wan chops Anakin after the flip. It pretty much dies off there in ROTS, and then you can use whatever score cue for Luke's yelling you want. In fact, it there was a longer yell from Luke, I'd start it off screen and then cut his part down a bit, so it looks like he is yelling as Obi Wan gets cut down, rather than reacting afterwards. It's pretty obvious as Vader starts to swing that Obi Wan is toast.

This is what I kinda had in mind. This is downconverted big time. Like I said, I need a 'Aggghhhh' sound to go right after the quote' and of course the quote itself needs to be cleaned up as I'm using an MP3 I got off the Web, not a isolated center channel track from a DVD.

There is an aggressive swing sound from Vader in ESB right after Luke catches him in the arm with the saber blade. If you could get that, it would work.

Video

You'll need XVid plugin to view that.

Anyone got a "Aaggghhhh" Vader sound, of him yelling as he swings or something of the like. I've got the 'You don't know the power of the Dark Side' quote dropped in perfectly, but I need an emphatic 'attack' noise from Vader...showing his aggression.

Actually, I don't know which works better, because they are both chilling...but I'm bouncing between "If you only knew the Power of the Dark Side!"

What I was suggesting was:

Obi Wan (off screen): Anakin...
Vader (interrupting): is no longer ALIVE (using the one from Tantive)
**saber clash***

Luke and Han run out
Obi Wan looks over and grins

Vader:
You don't know the Power of the Dark Side

Swings and kills Obi Wan

This allows for when Luke says that he still believes Anakin 'still exists', and Vader says Obi Wan once thought as he does, it works. It also makes it appear as of Obi Wan still has the conflict in him between doing what must be done and killing his 'brother'. It also links Vader to Anakin's arrogance in the last battle. He has still not learned his lesson. He still thinks he is more powerful than Obi Wan, but yet again, Obi Wan wins, even after Obi Wan warns him that if he uses his power, Obi Wan will become only more powerful.

That sites d/l speed blows, but that edit is much better. The ending needs alittle bit of work, but it's must stronger than that other mess.

Good job.

It's a shame that you can't tinker with them in a 'clutched' position, so it looks like they are struggling back and forth at a moment, almost at an empass.

I would add in some more dialogue from Vader or some off screen stuff from Ben. Possibly a Vader "You don't know the Power of the Dark Side" right after Obi Wan smiles and right before Vader strikes him. Re-using some frames, or just playing them back again...it would allow for the score to sync up alittle bit more or finish and would also look back towards "You underestimate my powers".

I'd also add some more saber clashes while Luke is running out, so it doesn't look like off screen they are just standing there. You kinda need to link the two images together, since you've not cut them out of place. The Saber clashes would be a small step, at the worst, you could rotoscope that (blah) to include the same background behind Ben from the opening area he is fighting in.
