Oh, right, I forgot.
FUCK YOU ASH
Oh, right, I forgot.
FUCK YOU ASH
I don’t think it’d be at all easy to make that work, and I wouldn’t be interested in pursuing the idea myself.

Member LardBladder pointed something out to me over PM that I wasn’t aware of. In ANH, when the fighters engage their S-foils into attack position, the SE and onward has a sound not present in the older mixes. However, it actually is present in the mono mix! Given this, I have reinstated it and reexported the ANH portion of this project. (I had originally mistook it for a SE change corresponding to the new visuals, but it was there in the mono mix with the original visual FX.)
I also fixed that loud pop when we meet Ben Kenobi.
It’s on the Google Drive, same as ever. (Only ANH is affected.) Thanks as usual to ChainsawAsh for the DTS encode.
Any further work on this one? It seems promising!
I was reflecting on it a little today, and only have a few suggestions.
I like how Spence edited the moment when Ben first recalls Padme, removing the “she died a long time ago” line in particular. (Yes, for continuity with my Ep3 edit as well as ROTJ sorta.)
I’d suggest having the pre-title card sequence be the flashback sparring match.
And I’d suggest keeping the Palpatine scene, given what a sweet runtime this thing has.
I plan to watch the workprint in full soon, and will jot down my thoughts.

It’s a cool ‘deleted scene’ now. I admire the crafting to get the whole series into a very believable runtime to the point that it feels like a real movie. Anytime I face cutting down to fit a runtime…

Eh, it puts a button on Vader being freshly enraged about Obi-Wan to explain why he loses that focus on him.
Also, I could see it functioning in movie economy to let the audience know that Vader didn’t die on that planet after the duel. And it lets us have some symmetry to see his castle once and then see it again.
It’s far from needed, just musing on it at this point.
Just skimmed through V3 after having watched V1, and I think you’ve about done it! Excellent work all around, and it feels totally like the movie that could have actually been made instead of the show.
The only nitpick I have is that when Obi-Wan first ignites his saber during each of his two confrontations with Vader, it makes what is usually Vader’s ignition sound. Don’t expect a V4 just for that, but figured I’d point it out.
I also noticed that for V3 (or possibly V2) when Obi-Wan tells Leia he reminds her of someone, it is shortened in a way that just so happens to address an issue that would strain continuity with edits of Ep3 that have Padme live on Alderaan (Q2’s and mine). So that was welcome!
All in all, I’d feel good about putting this edit on my figurative shelf alongside my edits and The Coaxium Heist.
EDIT: Well, keeping the scene with the Emperor would be nice but I agree that you gotta cut good stuff to get it down to a manageable time.
Are you talking about LOE, when they are heading up to rescue Palpatine?
It sounds all right to me, with headphones. Do you mean the center channel literally blanks out at that point?
EDIT: Yep, that seems to be what happened. I don’t have a surround setup. Was this very apparent? I don’t want to reissue just for this, but I can make a note about it in the event I ever do.
Fun? FUN?! Thinking too seriously about things that are fun is awesome!
Seriously, though, RogueLeader excels as a breath of fresh air once again. The longer I live, the more earnestly I accept the message of the real worth coming with the proverbial “friends we made along the way.”
Is this ready yet? I desperately want it to be ready already.
FWIW, I’ve had my esoteric old-ish-school ears tickled by several episodes. He’s one of us.

I was on a podcast!
User speakhard has been putting out a podcast called Trash Compactor, and asked me to talk with him a while back about fan edits. Here’s the link if you’d like to hear me talk even more about Ascendant and other associated things with him:

I’ve been listening to the show since, and plan to continue. It’s a series of conversations that were right in my wheelhouse, and likely many of yours also.
^ Unironically love it.

And if you move again, I’m, ah, I’m gonna shootcha.
Ah, good to know! There’s already too many Kenobi edits to keep track of, but the GI removal has already been done evidently. Lol
You could make a solid case for removing the Grand Inquisitor as a character altogether for a single-film presentation.
I wonder if anyone’s pursued FX work to remove him from key shots after Vader stabs Reva and when he is standing next to him onboard the Destroyer.
Removing the line, “the same way I will destroy you” makes it now seem like Vader expects to be killed. Like he’s saying, “You’re about to kill me but I beat you to it really.” And when Ben leaves him like that, he’s pissed to be shown mercy or possibly to not be killed again. Shows Vader’s guilt, to have been passed over rightfully being killed twice.

Sounds possible. I just haven’t totally mapped the contents of the show yet so I wasn’t sure if there was anything else there.
In ROTJ, as Luke hides from Vader during their duel, we now find a new motivation for him to lash out in anger toward Vader.
“Your feelings for them are strong. Especially for… Third Sister. So, you know Third Sister. Your feelings have now betrayed her too.”
Later, “Tell Third Sister… you were right.”
