No, bad idea.
Different directors can choose whatever aspect ratio they want. That's an artistic trait of a film.

And in soft matted films, Widescreen is still the Orignal Aspect Ratio.

It was shot in open matte.
The "fullscreen" version is still just as horrible as ever, because you can see some revealing set props now in frame.
When Marty is being hanged, you can see a stage hand keeping the rope from choking him in the fullframe version.
A widescreen version is still the correct choice here.
Although, I think the Terminators were shot in an even stranger way...

I'm thirteen, and colorizing ANY b/w movie is WRONG. They did that with a special version of some of the 'Twilight Zone' episodes.
I would never buy a pan-n-scan version of ANYTHING. The only 1.33:1 DVDs I own are either released in that format, are documentaries, or simply have no widescreen counterparts.
The original trilogy IS Star Wars. The SE is a rehash of it. I find it embarrasing to watch.
That's why I bought Laserdiscs.

Blunt answer.
But that's pretty much what happens. They also censored some of the scribblings on the bathroom wall that Valient falls out of in Toontown.

You're holding out a lot of hope for Ep3 sight unseen, aren't you, Hal?
From what I've heard so far, it should be good.
That's why there's a question mark (?) included next to it.

Remember when they read the names of everybody who died in 9/11 on TV?
Maybe we could do this with the petition! And somehow get somebody at Lucasfilm to see it.
Which would make more of an impact: simply saying that 55K people signed it, or a video with somebody reading all these names?

But I'm just not willing to send my laserdiscs to somebody I don't know or trust.
No offense intended, but thanks for the offer.
If the picture quality of the bootleg DVDs is the same as what I have, I guess I don't have much to gain anyway.

ANH would be the most difficult to do if that were to happen.
ESB would be easier.
ROTJ would be pretty easy. The great middle chunk of the film until the end has no changes. ROTJ just has major changes; keeping little detail changes to a minimum.
But yeah, ANH would be a mess to do.
