Star Wars OT SE 1080p 70mm Filmized Concept (a WIP)

Huh. That's really amazing; it seems very counterintuitive that adding noise to the video would improve its look and seemingly bring out detail.

Does it really bring out detail, or is it just our perception? That's a serious question; it looks that great.

Let me put on my dunce hat and ask a stupid question. Wouldn't 35mm grain be more authentic for the OT than 70mm, even if 70mm looks better?

What other sources are you using?

Oh, I was just thinking of things like custom opening crawls and end credits. Nothing revolutionary. And of course the same clip from The Other Boleyn Girl that Q2 used for ROTS.

And that last shot looks great; having it appear to have been filmed really helps sell the FX. I have wondered, though I don't know, whether Episodes II and III having been actually shot on film would have carried that level of "aberrations." In other words, would they have looked this filmic? Then again, we haven't yet seen anything in motion.

Hey, it's great improvement already, and I truly look forward to seeing the whole thing.

Just curious, but do you know if there are any decent programs or plug-ins that can add realistic 35mm film grain?

I have no skill in this area, and even if I end up making use of your promising project, I would still need to apply something to the other sources of footage I'm using to have things match up. Plus it'd be cool to keep in mind for other things.

It's being shot on film similar to what was used in the OT.

This also makes my 35mm PT preservation work all the more important to finsih it and get it right.

So excited right now!

Right on, man. I may as well just put my fan edits on hold because it is now imperative that I use your source material.

And this is a great sign!

Looking good. I think it will really come across as if the films had been made with a somewhat retro look. Not that you have so far, but I wouldn't want to take this effect farther than merited; I wouldn't want them to have any more grain and other artifacts than a good transfer of the original trilogy.

I heard a rumor that Episode VII might be shot on film, and if that's true this project will be all the more valuable.
