Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)
Time

Just showed the DEed v2.5 at my house to a group of family and friends. There were five or six adults who aren't Star Wars fanatics, a few young adults (one of which has never seen Star Wars), and my 12 year-old niece who had never seen it either. The DEed was enjoyed by all, and I was totally amazed how utterly seamless everything looked. There was no point when I or anyone questioned anything about what we were seeing. It was indistinguishable from a proper HD release of the OUT. And the best part is that two of the viewers do not know that Darth Vader is Luke's father, and everyone else was prompted ahead of time to play along with Obi-Wan's lies for their benefit.

Empire is next week, so we're all looking forward to it. Thanks to Harmy for making it truly possible to watch the original version without even thinking about it.

Speaking of Beru's voice, there was a very slight change to her dialogue for the SE. Compare the audio of the original to the SE or post-SE when she says, "He has too much of her father in him." Ever since '97, there's a very slight pause inserted before the word 'father.'

I learned that while researching to make a custom GOUT-synced audio track for myself. I grew up with the 1997 SE and certain bits of audio don't sound right to me unless they're there. Things like the computer noises from the SE (and from the mono mix) as the Falcon takes off from the Death Star. I'm glad the DEed is GOUT-synced, as it makes these kinds of things relatively easy to do.

Threepio's left leg (golden, prime universe)

vs.

Threepio's right leg (silver, also prime universe)

The left leg is original, straight from the factory, while the right one was salvaged from a CZ-3 bounty hunter droid that Space Jimmy Smitts fought off with his bare hands and crushed him in the airlock door. The leg and part of the pelvis was all that remained onboard.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Extended Edition Clips
Time

I'm pretty sure I saw the EE in theaters, and this will be the EEE. The short scene between Elrond and Bilbo was kind of nice, but the rest was totally unnecessary.

The nice thing about the LOTR EE was the extra bits and pieces that were largely based on things from the books that otherwise don't have a solid place in the films. I guess for the Hobbit EE it'll just be extra dwarven buffoonery that even the extended, three-film version doesn't have room for.

Harmy's RETURN OF THE JEDI Despecialized Edition HD - V3.1

You might try hairy_hen's alternate ROTJ audio that you can find a link to in his thread. There's an alternate musical cue during the Kenobi exposition scene, but perhaps the audio is synced perfectly.

You could even just do a quick edit and splice the two together, circumventing the alternate music in that scene.

Y'know, for lack of anything better before your marathon.

I agree; I have no quibs with "special edition" treatments, but Star Wars is the only one I can think of that intentionally tries to obscure the original version.

I'd like to do a fan edit of a "tasteful" special edition, but I doubt that Harmy's DEed would match up very well with any other transfer in terms of color and grain and things.

Star Wars: Episode VII to be directed by J.J. Abrams **NON SPOILER THREAD**
Time

Perhaps he was able to write something halfway decent given that he did it of his own initiative and with no deadlines. At least it isn't a script. It's not dialogue we're talking about, just the napkin-sized synopses that others will run with.

I'm surprised to hear myself say this, but I think it's good that GL is involved in that capacity. (But only that capacity.)
