Regarding the slowed down shots, I do not have a way to make those better than what’s there now, but if anyone is able to do so, feel free and pass them along.
I totally agree that such dialogue would be great to have there, but I don’t think the existing material to work with yield something worthy of inclusion. Such is fan editing. 😕
It’s quite possible I won’t be able to check in here at all tomorrow, so please proceed without me on the Snoke scene if you can; I don’t want to hold it up and trust the group we have going implicitly.
For tonight, my goal is to give the Hosnian sequence the additional TLC you guys have called for today.
I would love to sit here and provide praise and feedback about what poured in throughout the day, but suffice it to say for now that it seems the future of the Snoke scene ought to be in fishmanlee and Sir_Ridley talking to each other, using the scene order from Ridley and the music from fish. Really great output from you both.
V2 is going to really be something grand, the fulfillment of my thought upon completing V1: "I wish someone would come along and take this idea/material and make it better."
I will take another look at the Hosnian Prime destruction audio based on provided feedback, though may not be able to until Thursday. Again, I am hoping to be able to begin exporting sometime Friday, if there’s much hope to have it on people’s hard drives in time for pre-TLJ showings. I hope you all have reserved seating in the theater!

Ridley said the Maz’s Castle sequence is about to be uploaded, and I think at this point we are scrambling for the Snoke scene. That’s all that now remains!
I mean this sincerely and in a good way: this project is a collaboration through and through, and I will reflect whatever consensus is reached about this Snoke scene, be it an existing approach or something new.
Mala, if I am able to provide you a shit-video-quality version sometime Friday, do you think it’d be a quick job to sync subs for this in time? (Those could come later if need be.)

FanTASTIC! That’s unbelievably flawless work. It’s almost a shame, since anyone who would break apart this edit to look for seams would never imagine the deleted scene was not originally supplied in full 5.1.

Yes, that’s everything I have on my list that I still need. I’d also like to get this out ahead of TLJ. Ideally, it’d be the final version, but it’d be foolish to say that until seeing what TLJ provides us. (I know my life will be radically different after my wife and I have our first child in February.)
I’d say for the Snoke scene, the only thing we’d need is to have the first shot, made to look like Hux is standing there rather than Ren. (If possible; I don’t know how you pull off graphical wizardry like this.) I will try out DominicCobb’s idea for the music for this scene either tomorrow or Saturday.
Once all the ingredients are present, I will hustle to get it put together and encoded.
Not at all! But I wouldn’t worry about Ackbar unless we abandon the brief Snoke scene.

It’s subjective, of course, but that line doesn’t really work for me. Feels off in delivery and wording.
About the Ackbar line, I think it remains a hypothetical idea. If we use this new Snoke scene, I don’t think it’d make sense to use that line, as the X-Wing fighters noticing the hole in the oscillator would be later, where it originally featured in the theatrical version.

Well, it sounds like people are voicing a strong preference for the Hux and Snoke scene rather than the proposed re-restructure of the Resistance and Starkiller bases.
I don’t think I’ll be using the Yoda score for the ending, but appreciate the idea. I’m skeptical of sentence mixing Hux but I could give it an earnest try and see how it turns out.
Anyone have any ideas for a brief musical sting for the ending of the Snoke scene? I’ll have to skim the OST and see what I can find.

Here’s another attempt at that little scene. I added some faint distant explosion sounds when we cut back to Finn and Rey, as well as using audio of Finn breathing heavily from earlier in the film (as in the previous clip I posted). I tried to thread the needle with the music as we transition into Snoke, and I think it’s much better than the initial mockup.

Heh, well for that example I think the audio would be equally tight. I use music from the soundtrack to let Han and Leia’s scene’s score play out to the end and drop off while trying to keep the following scene subdued and quiet until it can be brought in.
The thing about these is each is as long as the source material will allow, and I could only shorten them from here. I can try using the TIE mountain establishing shot and see how that plays.
