Did I miss this ghost Hayden rumor earlier when I was avoiding this thread for the first thirty or so pages, or is that just pure speculation on your part?
No, just my own speculation. I don’t think it would necessarily be a dig at the OOT or a validation of the 2004 version of ROTJ at all. Sebastian Shaw is long gone, and Hayden is someone who played Anakin. It’d maybe be a little silly to make him up to appear like Shaw, but I’d be okay with just not trying to pass him off as 23.
For the record, in my upcoming V2 I identified the cause of that nasty artifacting, so it’s not just from a generational loss.
I used a single color correction setting across the board, and it evidently was very harsh on dark scenes. For V2, I completely left the blacks alone, and only slightly offset the mids and highlights. It’s a bit more yellow than V1, but still a bit less so than the raw BluRay. These settings produce video which seems not to suffer appreciable degradation from the source material. I’m not sure if something was deficient of TLJ’s BluRay. A cynical part of me wonders if it was anemic so as to make the 4K version look better by comparison.
Regardless, it sounds like both edits will be looking as good as possible after sorting this out. Poppa, did you do any color correction at all for yours?

Preferably not attempting to look young, with the long locks. Doesn’t have to be made up to look old necessarily, though.

^ Mala, thanks for the reminder about those suggestions. I will continue to keep removed Kylo’s mention that Rey’s parents are dead and buried. It seems like the gist of the ‘revelation’ is that Rey is finally admitting to herself what she already know to be true, in an annoyingly similar way as in Maz’s basement in TFA: her parents abandoned her and are gone for good. It seems not only unnecessary to depict them as dead, but slightly incongruous to the vision in TFA in which they are clearly leaving Jakku after dumping her there. Why would they be buried there? Also, that particular detail is the only thing that Rey would presumably not have already known, and it may be more effective to remain purely in the realm of Rey’s suppressed knowledge. That’s probably how Kylo Ren acquired the information anyway: from their mental battle in TFA.
Here’s a mockup of your ring idea. I’m not sure about it, though. Now, I imagine the question would become either, “How’d that boy get that ring?” or “Is that boy connected to Holdo somehow?” But I would like feedback from others about this one. If these are supposed to be Holdo’s hands, they are dirty and missing at least one ring.

It seems that my color correction made for some nasty digital noise in the black areas. I’ve redone it to avoid this problem by using a different method and not going as far.
Reinstate Hux being berated by Snoke after the opening battle. This cut felt conspicuous upon my last viewing.
Use Poppasketti’s awesome musical alteration when Luke tosses the saber.
Use Poppasketti’s slight audio adjustment to my transition(s) from ‘Luke Has a Moment’ to Poe and Finn’s deleted scene.
Reinstate Finn telling Rose to breathe.
Reinstate Poe’s line “A what now?” before Finn’s removed line about “miniaturized Death Star tech,” ala Poppasketti.
Reinstate Finn’s full self-sacrifice attack run.

That being said, I hope she just stays dead. If she could be excused from the execution scene of Finn and Rose, we could assume she died on SKB.
In this version, I suppose Phasma is presumed dead after the ship is destroyed. I guess she’s the one character who dies on board. 😃
I wish there was a good way to remove her from the film completely, without removing Finn and Rose’s entire subplot.
