Star Wars: The Coaxium Heist (COMPLETED)
Time

Well, I’d certainly welcome a full-throttle encode if you’d ever do one.

All I really want to do is slap in the original opening, free of fanfare and crawl, and somehow include your ‘The Coaxium Heist’ title, but otherwise leave it alone. Just to have it fit in with the other movies. I love this edit and I love that I don’t have to trudge out into Solo myself. Thanks again for the great work here.

If anyone reading this is so inclined, PM me if you’d like to replace the original shot that contains the “Solo - A Star Wars Story” with one that says “The Coaxium Heist.” I think that’d be pretty sweet, and I’d love to just toss out a version with merely an alternate opening.

Hal’s Rogue One edit (a half-assed version of DigMod’s) (Released)
Time

Rogue One changes (Hal9000)

This is Version 4 of this project.

(The only difference between versions 3 and 4 is to take advantage of Burbin revising his work on compositing Shamook’s deepfaked footage of Tarkin and Leia to take advantage of superior source material provided by Shamook.)

I love Rogue One. It’s honestly the most visceral fun I’ve had in the theater in the past few years. It was the first Star Wars film not to have me feel apprehensive, being the first spinoff film. It was ‘extra credit,’ and so I felt free to enjoy the good and not be bothered by parts that didn’t work as well. This edit is in recognition that a few tweaks would help the film, though.

This fan edit is largely a diet version of DigModification’s own Rogue One fan edit. But, since I made it for myself, may as well share it in case it would hit the spot for anyone else.

5.1 DTS audio (thanks to ChainsawAsh)
5.1 640kbps AC3 audio
English, Spanish, and French subtitles (Spanish provided by Burbin)
Chapter stops

(No title crawl has been contrived, location labels have been left alone, and no feathered wipe transitions have been employed.)

 • Used opening logos and title cards from The Last Jedi, replacing zoomed out versions used originally.
 • Used deepfake work of pioneering YouTubers to enhance the visual FX for Grand Moff Tarkin and Princess Leia’s apperances (OriginalTrilogy.com user Burbin has stitched together workable source material for this, drawing from the work of YouTube deepfake ‘practitioner’ Shamook.)
 • Borrowed a shot TM2YC modified to offset a shot that centered on a glass of blue milk.
 • Removed introductory scenes to Cassian and Bobdi. We cut from Jyn in prison to the jailbreak. We then meet the other main characters as she does. (Wobani label moved to establishing shot of transport)
 • Removed showing the audience Cassian’s instructions to kill Galen Erso. By removing this conversation as well as its reiteration in a later scene, it adds weight to Jyn’s comment about trust going both ways and keeps the audience in Jyn’s perspective.
 • Removed other Bohdi scenes until the band of heroes meet him in the dungeon of Saw Gerrera.
 • Removed a line from Cassian en route to Jedha that felt out of place (thanks to DigModification for audio)
 • Muted a line from K2 to let silence make for better humor.
 • Removed announcement on Jedha about the missing cargo pilot.
 • Removed the cringe-inducing cameo from Dr. Evazan and Ponda Baba.
 • Removed a cutaway to Jyn and Cassian to show Baze mowing down troopers in one unbroken shot.
 • As Krennic prepares to execute the scientists, removed line, “Fire!”
 • Trimmed Bohdi’s hesitation in assigning the new makeshift crew a callsign when pulling away from the Rebel base.
 • Removed a redundant line as Jyn notes they are trapped on the surface of Scarif.
 • Modified R2-D2’s red/blue light to match its style of appearance in ANH (FX by Burbin)
 • Removed Jyn’s line to Krennic, “You know who I am,” as he appeared sincerely not to.

The ‘Custom Special Edition’ That Almost Wasn’t, But Then Was (Released)
Time

Yes, that was part of Adywan’s work on the regraded transfer.

This project began and has used the Blu-ray as its primary source throughout, even when borrowing from the Despecialized and other related releases. Once we have the 19SE to pick a part in process, I am open to revising this to take some of it into account. However, other foreign members have put in a great deal of work on this project using the Blu-ray source, so I do not want to start from the ground up.

Oh, look out for a revised ESB. It’s already on Google Drive and I’ll get it in myspleen etcetera soon.
No changes to sync or content, just a new pass at regrading the colors. They are all roughly someplace between the OOT (as referenced by The Despecialized Edition) and the 1997 SE (as referenced by a LaserDisc capture).

EDIT: All done. Look for it wherever. (Fanedit.info may take a while to reflect it.)

TFA: A Gentle Restructure (Released)
Time

No worries; it’s really hard to tell sometimes what might work until it’s all there in front of you picked apart.
Even then in my case, sometimes I don’t think something is doable until I take a break and enough people tell me to try again.

EDIT: I think this fan edit is the strongest project I’ve been part of, and the one I’m most proud of. I guess my edit of Ep3 would be the most controversial, either strong or misguided depending on your POV.

TFA: A Gentle Restructure (Released)
Time

Thank you for the praise about this project, which I agree with and am glad to see spread among its contributors.

I’m not sure, though, that reshuffling the post-rathtar scenes would be an improvement. As it stands, in both the original and fan edited versions, we cut to the APB to a conversation with Snoke in which he reveals he is aware of it. Given how frenetic TFA is otherwise, it doesn’t seem to stand out to me. What would seem more frenetic would be to cut to the Falcon in hyperspace immediately. And cutting to Snoke after Han says, “this is out stop” would seem to be a bit jarring.

As far as the star destroyer, remember that the Empire has been gone for decades and the First Order has yet to reveal themselves. Remember Poe’s awed expression when he is taken aboard one at the start of the movie. When it appears, the locale of criminals react with alarm, Finn hear’s the commotion and turns to see what’s up. Han and company come out of the bar to see this star destroyer which is a very unusual sight. If I were to add a sound effect for the destroyer exiting hyperspace, that would necessitate that Finn was reacting to that specific sound, and I can’t obviously have it before the beginning of the shot. That might make it feel more abrupt than to have him react to the commotion around him, which seems more organic since it was what was happening in the shot originally.

I understand that these are small points, but I wanted to respond to them with consideration. I just don’t see alternatives as superior to what’s there for those two points.

Does anyone happen to have the '77, '80, and '83 sets of opening logos in good 1080p quality? (I believe ESB and ROTJ were identical.)

I wonder if it might just be better to use the original opening logos for this Custom SE, even if they are meant to stand alongside the OOT. I think I’d prefer for a ‘desert island’ version of the saga to be that way, with each trilogy having its own flavor of opening.

I’ll carefully see if there’s anything that would make ANH end up being worth revising again, whether things from the new 19SE or anything else. However, if there really just isn’t, I won’t reissue it just for the logo change and will leave ESB and ROTJ with the SE logos also.

The Mandalorian - a general discussion thread - * SPOILERS *

Also wanted to say this episode adds extra depth to Chapter 2 with The Egg the Mando delivers to the Jawas and how watching in disgust as they tear it apart reflects the child and what he fears the Empire might do it.

Interesting idea you bring up. He doesn’t seem disturbed by the Jawas eating the egg, and even comically shakes his head. Could still mean what you suggest, even so.
