Thanks, RogueLeader, and I think that’d be great. I can at least serve as an MC to guide, compile and execute. Not judge, jury, or executioner, though.

I… don’t really have strong feelings yet about the Rey thing. I guess it depends on what can be done well. But I don’t feel that we need to necessarily hold to ‘canon’ for this one since it just seems so convoluted and hamfisted. At least with LOE, I had lore from 1983 to consider.

And as a random thought for now: does anyone know where we could find masked Kylo dialogue to the effect of “you were right”? I’d like to replace his line to Rey of “I never lied to you.”

Let’s play mad libs:

“You don’t just have power, Rey. You have his [funny noun]. You’re a [funnier noun].

power / Palpatine

Ewoks / Mary Sue

Clone DNA / bad experiment

stunning brown eyes / midichlorian

“You don’t just have power, Rey. You have his beauty. You’re an angel.”

^ Thanks, nl! It is hard to totally picture all of those scenes in that order, but once I can see the movie again I’m sure I’ll be in a better place to appraise it in terms of desirability and feasibility. Scene transitions can be difficult, but this film’s relentless BLAH pacing may allow for less polish than I’d usually strive for.

I can’t listen to the Emperor’s line right now, but that’s be amazing if it were able to blend in seamlessly after all.

I’m down with that idea, but that makes it even more necessary to come up with some way to communicate to the audience at the end that Palps is 100% for realsies dead this time, you guys - otherwise it’s just, “Well, we saw all his clone bodies earlier, clearly he’s just gonna get cloned again.”

Hmm, I’m not sure how this causes greater need for confirmation that he’s dead forever this time. It was already sorely needed to begin with! (Unless he represents the sort of evil that cannot be killed along with any one man and is never truly vanquished.)

Hey, Hal. I know that you have a life as us fan editors do too. But I was wondering that in the future, most likely when the film arrives on Blu-ray, since there’s no deleted scenes available, would you be interested if I offered you a pitch scenario of restructuring scenes in the narrative?

Of course! Don’t be shy.

Well, when Rey runs across the landscape in a wide shot, it’s very clearly just a temp effect as she hovers while running in place. (Although there are some comparable shots in the finished version of the LOTR movies.)
The ocean background when Luke talks with Rey at the end are static. And I think there are some un-removed puppetry things, too.

More importantly, I feel the scene is very nice but better omitted. We have already come to understand that Luke thinks negatively about the Jedi and that Rey is full of piss and vinegar. And when this scene is gone, Luke approaching Rey as she is about to touch hands with Kylo rings more strongly as him about to come to his senses and begin to help her.
