Yeah, I’m certainly not counting him out! Just meant that I hadn’t heard from him recently. Any and all of the above mentioned ideas I would love to see and to consider using!
And again, I’d rather wait a bit longer for a good and proper V1 that can be final rather than doing a V1 and then a V2. Now that I will have things nicely tucked into FCPX, I could probably do another workprint once I get things situated computer-wise.
And thanks, ziggy, I will look at that again. It’d help me sleep at night being able to visually tell whether a clip aligns like that.
And Cinefy, I do plan to see about putting that extra Qui-Gon line in there, but when the ghosts are all chattering earlier.
Not for a while, no.
That’s the only thing left that’s a necessity. The others would be nice but wouldn’t be showstoppers if they never materialize.
What’s a “fan” anyway, just someone participating in the current Internet discourse? Does someone’s dad somewhere who doesn’t watch YouTube factor in?
I certainly hope for this year, yes. Just waiting on a few pieces, mostly the crackly saber.
Just finished it. What a treat! I think it really works in this format, and I doubt anything would’ve stood out to me if I hadn’t already seen the show. That being said, the only thing that did was the mudhorn scene, but even that’s nitpicking.
This movie has a solid throughline and the emotions resonate well when Season 1 is concentrated into an action packed single film like this. I will look forward to its sequel in Q4 2021. 😉
JEDIT: Misunderstood.
Yeah, I’d be happier reading about this in the redux thread.
I had time just to watch the first half so far, but I was surprised how emotional engaging it was when stripped to the core narrative throughline. I’m enjoying it so far!
I think that’d be confusing. If yellow lightning from Rey was struck down, I don’t think this would be a good idea for this particular project. I’d be interesting in seeing it as a concept, but not in the movie.

Thanks! Well, I’ll hopefully have a chance at some point to work on something just to test it out. I don’t want to pay for a subscription to software, and DaVinci has a free option, so maybe I’ll try that one. I assume it’ll let me export good master files to toss over to Compressor.
While waiting for the new computer stuff to arrive, I’ve been just playing some with FCPX by recreating some audio work I already have done before. The 2011 machine appears to work fine once booted up, but hopefully you’re not in a hurry if it does get shut down.
Anyone know this?
In FCP7, if you use the blade to cut a clip, there will appear two red arrows to let you know that the clips are aligned despite the cut.
Does anything correspond to this in FCPX? When I make a cut, there doesn’t seem to be any visual distinction between any two clips I could just smash together.
I take it as a compliment, either way.
Copy to your Drive, then copy it within your Drive again. That’s enough to fool it. 😉
I’d have to agree. Maybe it’s just because those are the VHS tapes U came up with, but they feel more right to me than anything since.
Sounds interesting. Welcome, and congratulations on your first project!
That’s all right, you wouldn’t need to dissuade me too strongly from watching yet another SW YouTube critique.
Thanks for that tip, I’ll see what I end up doing for the future. I’m not sure I’d trust an xml export to capture everything about this project though!
No worries; I shouldn’t have a problem booting from the old drive and carrying on for the purposes of this project. I might play with the Hobbit sometime later on if I want to learn FCPX or DaVinci of what have you.
Currypuff, thanks for that feedback. What line are you referring to? I remind you that the vast majority of the real creative ideas and energy have come from others here and that I’ve just been the assembler and executor of most of it. And thank goodness!
Muffy, I’ll check that video out sometime.
lol
Holy crap, you guys. Eight of you chipped in and raised about $232.
I bid on and won a 2014 MBP with a busted screen for just under that amount! So I think I’ll just pick up an enclosure for my current internal drive so I can dual-boot the new machine and have access to FCP7 for anything I may need going forward.
No more donations; we got it! I’m touched by the generous outpouring from you all. Onward, then!
If anyone does wish to float me just a few dollars, feel free to PM me, as anything will help this succeed. To be clear, any money changing hands is intended for hardware with which to edit, not for the edit as such or anything else.
I’m not gonna grab it and head to Hawaii, just getting a ~$200-250 7-9 year old Mac to get back up and running.
JEDIT: Oh my goodness, thank you to the five of you who PM’d me already about this.
No, because the drive I was going to encode it onto doesn’t appear anywhere (not diskutil or anywhere) after an abrupt disconnect. No data was lost, since it was recently acquired. It appears to be broken. Not a big deal in itself, just means I don’t have anywhere to export the video as ProRes like that. (I’d encode final product streams directly from Compressor anyway.) I tried troubleshooting for a while but it seems dead. It’s my own fault!
I’m not about to delete my Time Machine backup right now in order to do it, but it should be no issue to restore from it. In the process of troubleshooting I had to reboot and it did it once, but the second time put it in its opossum state.
Aaaaaand it’s gone again.
Hmm, it seems the pattern is to unplug my computer and then try to boot up some hours later.
I don’t know. I bid on a 2013 MBP with a broken screen so we’ll see what happens. I’ll try to keep these to a minimum as they aren’t really SW related.
