The Acolyte (live action series set in The High Republic era) - a general discussion thread
Time

You’re right, terms like “good,” “well-paced” and “competent” are subjective.

But that doesn’t mean they can’t be evaluated.

“Well-paced” usually refers to a story that keeps the audience engaged without dragging or rushing, and “competent” writing means the plot and characters are coherent and compelling. These aren’t arbitrary standards; they’re widely recognized in storytelling. And when Disney’s content doesn’t meet these standards, it can affect viewership and revenue. So, while subjective, these qualities still have real-world implications for the business.

The real issue here, and the main issue with Disney as a whole it seems, they will never just come out and said it was a poorly written show that was badly paced and shouldn’t have been greenlight to begin with.

Disney also does not convey that message to their writers/staff, who then go on social media and blast certain sections of the fandom as racist and sexist for not liking their story. If Disney keeps failing to fix the problem at home and firing these people that cannot write a decent and well-paced story and replacing them with competent people, then we’ll just keep getting a new The Acolyte each year.

Yes, there are racists and sexists in every fandom, but, some people might not have liked your work for other reasons… mainly, it not being that well written or it doesn’t clearly convey the message it is trying to tell.

What is the reason for making this content? And if it isn’t a compelling one, then back to the beginning and start again.

Just thinking…

 • Redo Poe’s Illum line
 • Maybe cleanup/redo Finn’s: “It’s the First Order, they’ve found us line.”
 • An angry line for Poe about making the First Order pay after the destruction of the Hosnian System (helping to explain why they are continuing the assault)
 • Potential line for Lor San Tekka (or Kylo) clarifying that it isn’t a map that Luke left to find him, but a map that leads to an ancient Jedi Temple where Luke may be, clearing up the confusion on why Luke would leave a map if he didn’t want to be found.
 • Maybe some kind of line before Rey leaves to find Luke about starting an evacuation soon because the First Order is coming to D’Qar to counterattack.
 • Any Leia exposition lines that could be on comms during the Starkiller X-Wing battle?
 • A Maz Kanata line about having to leave soon to go settle a union dispute (TLJ connection)
 • Over the loudspeaker at the Resistance base in the background “Rose Tico, please report to maintenance.”

Bumping this…

You know me and my tweaks haha. I like where you are going with this, might I suggest…

Seeking to defuse this
emerging threat, daring
Senators have secretly
commissioned the pilots
of a brave RESISTANCE
to find the last Jedi and
restore the light of hope
to the darkening stars…

The reason for the tweak…

 • Make it sound more present tense
 • Make it so the leaders do not seem afraid and are actually competent
 • Make it so that it is not the Senate but only a select few that are supporting the Resistance in hopes to de-escalate the conflict.

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION
Time

I don’t know why people are so obsessed with Scene 38.

It’s not that well done, it doesn’t fit the aesthetic of the original film, and it’s just so obvious that it isn’t the same set or actors for that matter.

The whole “we are going to make something that can seamlessly be entered in” is easily the biggest fail of that project. It is a fun supplemental thing, but to this day I do not understand the obsession with shoehorning it into every fanedit.

Ady’s version of the duel has been just fine. The movie came out in 1977. You have to accept the slower-paced duel the same as Yub-Nub. It was never a “problem” until the fast-paced prequel duels were a thing…

EDIT: Forgot to include, but the link above appears not to include any clips of Scene 38, but it does seem like it is respecting the source material much better when they were editing it. It feels really similar to Ady’s existing duel though.

The Rise of Skywalker: Ascendant (Released)

Goddarn it… that Luke scene is literally perfect now and ties into the theme of the film so much better, giving Rey a last lesson from both of her masters. Also makes Leia’s “Always.” during the final battle hit so much better too.

Honestly didn’t think we could have that much of a step up from V4 to V5, but holy crap, better 3PO lines, more TLJ/Luke continuity, etc. Exciting stuff guys. Can’t wait to slot in V5 on my Plex Server and never have to download another version of TROS again.

Thanks again Hal and others for saving this movie for me and your work all around.

Next step, trying to force my anti-fanedit movie purist friends to sit through your edits and have them realize what they are missing out on.
