I like the thought process... but at the same time, I find a lot of the edits to be... skitsafrenic...

Its not that I have trouble following... but I'm having trouble understanding the edits.

From what you've shown, a lot of it would be most apropriately understood as a sort of... montoge. ..

Like how it cuts between things. The issue, of course, is that you don't have John Williams at your disposal to write you an apropriate musical montoge to fit the video...

Its interesting... I like a lot of the ideas...

I do have to say that the lack of vision in this thread non-withstanding, I still think the PT is at least, for the most part... rather enjoyable.

You have to realize it's not the OT... its not really a store about a single character... The story REALLY is about Padme... and that's why people get confused on why things are important and why things needed to be there... they had to be there for that purpose... Also becuase Lucas loves to show a context... to compare one thing to another...

Like how many people HATE Temple of DOom...I LOVE temple of DOom... brilliant scoring... great film...

But people hate it because it's not" Raiders."  Well...its not ... it's Temple of Doom! lol... Hes dealing with a very evil and horrible subject but in a light way...but at the same time, SHOWING the evil... it creates a strong dichotomy and in a way, heightens the objectivity of how evil the clan was...

Also, yes, the prequels seem to be kinda willy nilly... but it makes sense... If it was all in a linear direction, don't you think the characters would ahve been like "This is not good. Don't you see whats happening!" Of course WE can see it... but if they saw it coming, then we'd hate the films more... we'd all be editing them to dumb them down so that Obi-Wan didn't seem to be such an idiot for not seeing what was coming... or for Padme being blind and trusting... or for Anakin for being so obviiously used...

I'lll reserve my comments for further talks... but you all have inspired me to look at possibly editing the prequels... I already did some of Episode III... and maybe with a talented artists help, I could do a nice release too...

I'll probably make a thread to talk about it after this...

And on a side note, I would argue that Episode I was a masterpiece... minus a few small portions... I think the film is near perfect how it is.

So I was listening to the music to Empire at War today and you know what I realized...

There's an alternate take of "Battle of Hoth 2" in the game... it was my understanding that the developers denied that any new music would be present in the game because they were simply ripping from the albums but this MUST NOT be true... I'm testing to see if any album has this alternate but I doubt it.

Will keep you all posted on any changes or additions to the set.

EDIT:

It would seem that the Album has the correct version (with an edit that is very audible), where as the SE uses an incorrect take... (and no edit) lol... interesting...

I think we should all remember that Ady already has shown what his edit will look like of the Emperor talking and I'm very much impressed by it... check out his trailer... it shows the idea. I think the point here was to show the dialogue... not the visuals...

oh sorry, yea... I've been deleting them because I'muploading them to where my soundtracks are loaded... and he already told me I don't have much space for the soudntracks, so I've been deleting them once I upload them...

So I went back to your edit of the converastion Ady, added in my slight touch, but I've tried layering it with a quiter version of the Emperors Theme to facilitate the fading back into the origianl music at the end.

Well, I've tried toying with the edit... Since it doesn't cut away to Vader saying "I have felt it," you might find it difficult to cut some of the extra seconds without getting odd interruptions in the visuals.. but I suppose you've fixed worse things... unless of course you plan to cut away for 3 seconds heh...

You seem to assume that I don't realize that everything you've shown so far is a rough edit.... I do realize this. But what I didn't think you had realized is what I'm saying which is that in NTSC the timing is quite bad... as long as that issue is fixed, I'd be fine with that line.

I guess the issues I've had are a bit performance wise.

The timing between "There is a great disturbance in the force" and "I have felt it" and again back to "We have a new enemy" are huge... massive... of course, in your edit Ady, being PAL, the pacing seems better...

But in NTSC... the timing is gigantic... it always seems so... "I'm not paying attention"... that's the only issue I really had... I know it sounds fine to you... but in NTSC... its a bit long..

Then we also have the issue of the Emperor being seen but his "theme" not being heard. I thought about maybe finding some low instrumental part and having it layered under the original music but I had no luck... I might keep looking but that was why I changed the music too... perhaps haphazardly... just to raise that eyebrow...

The ended I edited in because the idea of maybe showing Palpatine on Coruscant was mentioned... and I thought it would be rather poetic to have vader bow.. look back up... and the emperor still there... watching... then have his image fade out only to see him still staring forward in his char on Coruscant...

As if the conversation had concearned him... and that he sensed something in Vader... and in how Vader spoke... but not enough to truly cause him worry as he had more important things to work on... Luke...

I'll keep toying with it. I'm warming up to your edit as I see it's not that far gone from mine...

I don't entirly like my new edit, but I think it's kinda like... a meeting place of yours and mine... on top of that, I decided to try something that was floating around in my head musically speaking... I don't really think it 100% fits...BUT... perhaps with more mixing, it might work better... this video lacks a bit of SFX as well as the music not being 100% mixed right so take that into account.

I actually have been toying with what you did Ady... I still don't quite like it, but I did take an idea you had and use it in mine... I also have taken the liberty to change something else..

I value all well constructed thought. I don't, however, value opinion. Opinions change too easily.

Thoughts, by their nature, are based in reason and have well constructed explanations. That's all I mean.

I value Ady's edit... I don't agree with it... but I understand it.

I mean, no offence meant, but I am in charge of the worlds largest Jurassic Park encyclopedia and fan base. We run things very different there...

A comment like that... where someone simply states that ... we consider to be flaming or spamming.

Why? Becuase it invites comments like mine... and it eventually fills the thread with non-neccesary miscomunication and posts.

Why not simply say "I don't like thsomething because" and that enables people to have CIVILIZED and ARTICULATE debates... and... seeing as the subject has past, one might wonder what would warrent the comment to even be posted atall.

But... all that having been said... I simply did what I did. It wasn't meant to be better or worse. It simply was. It was an attempt to show an alternate means of editing the sequence. A way to hybridize what we see in both versions, while staying cannonical... I know most of you coudln't give two shits about the prequels, but frankly I do. I find them not only a neccesary aspect of the saga, but unmistakeable and undenyable.

As much as we Jurassic Park fans disagree on the sense and intelligence of Jurassic Park 3, it IS undeniable AND a part of the story. It may not have been anticipated before the original, it may not have been written or filmed before the original... but none the less, the changes the series, and paints the story in a different light.

Personally, I want to see Adywan work on the Prequels. I consider his work on the OT a means to correct and streamline as well as articulate the originals so that when he HOPEFULLY goes to the prequels, he can have a free-er range of movement of editing. Certain things cut... but not too many things. The one needing the most would be Episode II... but none the less, I believe it would be near sighted, ignorant, and fool hearty to assume that the prequels are trash and to treat them as non-cannon. I think you would loose a lot.

I toyed with the hologram disturbance a bit... but Vegas only lets you choose "square" or "rectangular" shapes... so its not like I could cut out his shape, I just had to guess a general shape around him... so if you see scenery wobble a little around him, that's why... Was trying to show that even little changes do a lot to the scene.

I thought Dooku was a Dark Jedi (as if theres a difference)... lol

but I DO like what you're saying... and musically it would work too... there's enough music for it... And if Ady wanted, he could cut out the shot looking down at Vader kneeling and make it all hologram lol

honestly, the thought had crossed my mind... like the shot of him in the basement of the senate building... talking to Anakin in Episode III... but I didn't want to add that in... it would be up to Ady.

I personally liked the dynamic... if you really study the scene, it makes perfect sense.

Vader already knows about Luke. The emperor calls to pretty much say it's not safe, that Luke exists... trying to drop a bomb on Vader who kinda already knows. He tries to downplay Lukes importance (while at the same time, trying to hunt him down himself).

He's also calling to say that Luke cannot become a Jedi... which I guess insinuated that Vader should destroy him before he destroys them...

But his emotions get in the way and he suggests that if Luke can be turned... trying to find a way to not have to kill him... to keep him....

Now... mind you... Vader is kinda showing his hand here... How many Sith can there be? ...2 right? If he wants to turn Luke... he's in essence saying "I want to replace you." ... although I'm not Certain that Vader realizes it when he says that. Calling him an Ally... maybe meaning not a full fledged sith...

He has tried it before... in Episode III he tried to convince Padme to rule with him... look where that got him lol.

I think the hope was somewhat the same here.

BUT Palpatine, realizing that, thinks "I'll play along... but instead of replacing me, Luke will replace YOU at my side... " as we latter see him try in Jedi...

And it would go a long way to show the crumbling relationship in ROTJ... how Palpatine doesn't even want to see Vader... he's to obsessed with getting Luke he doesn't care about Vader anymore.

I think its kidna cool at least lol

If you cut the line, I think you'd have to cut the emperor speaking over vader... it works without hims saying "Darth Vader" actually I just added it last minute becuase I thought it really pushed it and gave it an edge... without the line "How can that Be" it woudln't make sense for Palpatine to interrupt...

"He could destroy us."
"He's just a boy. Obi-Wan Can no longer help him."
"He is strong with the force."

You coudln't have him interrupt... that would be the only other thing...

that is true... I thought if I added it in, it might make the conversation a little bit longer... might mix it up a bit in an unexpected way. heh Just kinda throwing out a possibility
