Do... or do not. There is no try."

Yea, well I hate Ben Burtt!

"Hmm... strong with the dark side, is he. Grave danger I fear in your editing."

Star Wars Prequels/Original Trilogy: The Complete Scores (Released)
Time
Hey alll...

This isn't so much an update as a sort of... well... story....

Years ago when I joined the forums online, I joined only two or three.

One was Jurassic Park Legacy, which I slowly moved up the ranks to be the co-admin for...

And JWFan.net.

It was through JWFan.net that I was introduced to the idea of making my own edits for films cores. I had tried for Jurassic Park but to my novice ears, it sounded fine and to their more gifted ears, it was quite lacking.

I've grown... a lot...

But I thought that I'd say this here and now:

The Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace (Complete 4 Disc Score) was something that I made.

It's getting a lot of attention now in the fan base with a certain release by ggctuk, but the original production was mine.

But I dont' want to take all the credit. There's a story.

Lord Skylark , one of the people on JWFan.net, managed to track down a lot of the games and programs that had the Episode I music in it. He ripped them and spoke to a few people on JWfan.net about making a complete score edit.

He spoke to one Henry Buck and King Mark who agreed... The two were at odds with some things. King Mark (or was it Henry Buck? Its been a while) simply wanted an expanded UE set (which to all of you means that he simply wanted to add in some missing bits to the Ultimate Edition which was commercially released.)

Afraid of sending out all these files because of copy right claims, he then created a thread on JWfan.net talking about how others could make this edit, and had someone at ff.net host these missing pieces of the score that people could then insert into their Ultimate Edition scores.

I downloaded these files and spoke out about certain alternates that been missed.

My edits eventually caught the eye of Lord Skylark who then proposed that he could send me the RAW WAV RIPS from the games. The same source material that King Mark had, but unlike the stuff hosted online (which was all 320 mp3).

I took him up on the offer to create a complete set and poured over nearly 12 GIG of music searching originally for missing pieces of the highest quality (mind you, each game had music saved at different quality levels and several could ahve the same missing piece but one might have it in nearly flawless quality while the others wouldn't).

I then had to work my way through the UE, undoing all the edits, deciphering all the problems and replacing all the lost music.

Now, years earlier another fellow by the name of .... I can't recall... but he went through a lot of the material and wrote up on his website exactly what he'd found.

I did not go by this. I went by some of King Marks work in the breakdown... but a lot of it I did myself.

I worked in an almost literal vaccume. I worked to find everything I could... I started finding pieces that sounded similar to what was released, but would have slight variances.

Late in the game, I realized I was finding raw , alternate takes of the cues.

I then took these cues and decided that they, too , should be presented on the set.

I went to Sony's website and ripped the audio for the John Williams interviews.

Then Miguel sent me some files along with King Mark to add as extras... live recordings of JW in concert and the premiers of the music... The Trailer Audio... and so on and so on..

I released the set to many attacks. People said it was bad. THere was a time when one person in particular (king mark) lambasted the set for being jockular and novice in sound. I took offence because I'd asked him months before for advice and to listen to my set and let me know if I'd missed anything.

He never responded.

I then redid the set in about a week and released it again.

This is the set you are all familiar with.

I Have since found small pieces that need to be added... but they did not become available until the starwars.com mashups showed up online so the lateness of the hour can be forgiven.

I plan to redo my episode I set as soon as I'm done with my Episode II edit.

The 4 disc set that is getting so much attention is NOT my set.... but without my set it wouldn't have been possible. Much of the extra material has been taken from my set and reordered... restructured in a different way.

The differences between my set and his are negligable. I have things he missed and had to correct him on, and he has two alternate takes I did not find.

But as I said, I'm set to redo my set as I was very pleased with it but as of late, I'm not as pleased as I use to be.

So...

With that all said and done, I would like to say that my Episode II set is nearly finished. I'm doing the final touches to it now... and I hope to have it uploaded and done by Monday.

Things are moving along. I just finished the Battle for Geonosis music. Have moved back into the new material for Episode II and am on the home stretch.

I came to the decision to do my own edit of the battle music when I found that most of the edits were really poor copies. They didn't really make sure they did things how they were in the film...

For one, they didn't track a lot of the timp rolls from the correct sources or just ripped them from the DVD which brings in SFX... they didn't pitch shift anything that was suppose to be... they didn't use correct alternates like the percussion alternate for "Escape from Naboo" is used in the film but most people just use the Album mix.

I hope you enjoy my edits. I took only SLIGHT creative liberty... I almost exactly copied everything and I think in only one case did I add an extra moment to make the edit transition slightly better than the film.

I also found that there is a different version of the "Going After Dooku" than we're all use to... funny the things you find when you look lol

oye... I guess I should make another announcement...

My site is down. It won't be back up so none of this available...

and not to go over anyones head here, but why would I make an incomplete set available? ..that doesn't make sense...

I'm just giving updates.

I'm sorry if I seem snotty but I get inundated with emails every day from TWO forums about this set... asking for the damned link lol...

And In both cases, I've clearly made my stance known and I know that most people don't want to read the thread on the other forum (very long) but this one isn't very long...

So i apologize now if I seem snotty or angry... I just am angry lol...

But When the set is done, I'll announce it, and yuo're welcome to the link then.

I decided to try my hand at the battle music and so far so good. It's not bad. It's quite fun actually heh...

This might be a silly suggestion, but for stuff like the Arena Battle, which is mostly tracked, could you piece it together from scratch using the tracks from Episode I (and that bit from ROTJ/whatever other material was used), and by using the movie as a guideline. This way there would be no sfx or dialogue. Or has not all the tracked music in the battle been released in it's original form?

All the music has been released via the UE or my Episode I complete score edit.

But, I decided to try my hand at editing it anyways...

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION

I don't want to jump on the bandwagon of nay sayers because first let me say how much I enjoyed the edit!

It truly is wonderfully crafted and brilliantly done.

I got tears in my eyes as the deathstar was literally shooting at Yavin IV and then exploded... I... wow...

As far as other things, I seem to agree with everyone about the arm. Perhaps it would be easier to remove the sleeve and make it look more like the other guys sleeve... than it would be to some how convince that it's ponda's? I mean, you'd have the hand and such already... so having it as his sleeve I don't know how hard that would be but I think that it might be a better alternative.

As far as the sound mix I do really really really really enjoy it.

I think the music lacked a bit in the middle registers, but It's nothing horribly bad.

I'd like to listen to it with my 5.1 speakers too before I give a full analysis on the sound as well.

Also, let me know about the soundtrack becuase I can start getting that ready if you're still interested in using what I did for the DVD.

Just a word of caution... this will be almost like every other edit out there... except I'm doing my best to make everything sound nice... and make it complete... not a jumble of edits like it is in the film...

I'm just saying this becuase I'd rather you be somewhat optomistic and have it met than overly optomistic and be sad lol

Star Wars Prequels/Original Trilogy: The Complete Scores (Released)
Time
Well, several people have attempted to make an edit of the battle music for Episode II so I have a lot of sources, plus my own DVD rip.

I am certain most of it has been released, and I am more than willing to try my own edit of the battle music.

Music for the film, however, such as the Yoda- Dooku battle I will try to edit as it was intended... not how its in the film.

I'm really excited with how this is coming out. I honestly thought there was no reason to release this but I see there is some room for improvement.

The album for instance was really oddly mixed. I manged to brighten and widen the music. I think that in and of itself is perhaps the best thing about my set.

I'm also being very meticulous and trying to include everything possible... tracked edits ... and unused fanfares and bits of music too... trying to be complete in this... I think for the most part, this will replace any edits you all have now...

I'm trying to make sure everything is fine as I go through it.

I ripped the DVD's Main Titles as they were clean and mixed better than on any album so I ripped that and down mixed that into a really nice new Main Title mix. You can hear the snare so much better now.

Everything is crisper, cleaner, and broader. It's almost like being in there.

The DVD rips do have a bit of sfx, but not as prominant vocal echo as I'd feared. I managed to minimize that and really bring out the music.

I'm also finding quite a few alternates which is nice because Episode II always confused me and it is quite hard to piece together how things were intended when so little was released and so much editing took place... but its coming along.

I hope to have this done within another week.
