Upcoming movies you may not know about.
Time
Grendel will be played by Crispin Glover?
I can only pray that they are talking about a motion capture performance, like for Gollum in the Lord of the Rings or Tom Hanks in Polar Express.
If they are talking Crispin Glover in a suit, I don't see how that would work. I don't think an audience will want to see that.

Hopefully, Zemeckis will make this interesting and do justice to the original text rather than have explosions and chase scenes.

Brosnan is no longer Bond, Daniel Craig is now Bond.
Time
I'm going to miss Brosnan. I think two of his Bond movies, Goldeneye and Die Another Day, were very good. Tommorrow Never Dies had problems, but it was O.K. It at least had Michelle Yeoh. The World is Not Enough might be the worst film of the franchise(it's between that and View to a Kill) and I almost didn't go see Die Another Day because of it.
I think Clive Owen would make a great Bond. Bana wouldn't be too bad either. I haven't seen Gruffand or Butler in anything where they have required a personality. The one rumor that I am dreading is they were talking about Orlando Bloom. If they choose him, I will refuse to see the movie.

Ewan McGregor being blamed for failure of "The Island" by producers (along with the Johanasson girl)
Time
I saw the movie and McGregor and Johanson are not to blame. I didn't think The Island was a bad movie, but it did have a few script problems. The budget apparently was over $100 million dollars, but it doesn't look like it on screen. I don't know why people are not going. There are plenty of other even more brainless action movies making money, Dukes of Hazard made $30 million dollars last week.

Lucas prequel decisions in hindsight
Time
I think the big problems of the prequals have to do an overreliance on CGI technology and poor scripting beginning with Anakin's age and the way they handled the Clone Wars. I don't find kids in movies very interesting to begin with. Anakin in Phantom Meace often seems like an afterthought. He has the big pod race, but the rest of the movie he is just following the Jedi around. The way he destroys the ship is handled very poorly. I don't hate Phantom Menace as much as others do, but it does not work as a Star Wars movie.
The Clone Wars as a name sounds reallty cool. The way Luke says, "You fought in the Clone Wars" in the first movie makes it all the more interesting. It turns out that the Clone Wars is an insurrection brought about by the Emperor and the Clones fought on the Republic side. It should have just been called the Insurrection or the Seperatists War.
The dialogue in the original trilogy was actually quite good. You might have a bad line here and there, but it worked for the most part. The dialogue in the sequals is wooden and boring.
As for the cast, Ewan McGregor, Liam Neeson, and Natalie Portman are great actors most directors ould kill for. Portman has been turning out great performances since 1994's Leon, the Professional and Beautiful Girls the next year. However, she sometimes ican be a little wooden. Jake Lloyd was a kid and you basically rolling the dice when casting kids in general. Hayden Christiansen is a good actor in the two other movies I've seen him in. However, he played Anakin the exact same way he played his Life as a House character, who was a sexually confused, drug using, father hating bratty teenager.
Attack of the Clones was poorly written and worst of all, boring. It plodded along with its banal dialogue and wooded acting. There were moments were it looked like it would get better, but it didn't. Then comes the arena scene and I was pumped to see all the Jedi do their thing. Well, a few of the Jedi looked good, but the rest looked like they were taken out of Central Casting for the day, were given lightsabers, and told to wave the lightsaber around. Then comes the duel with Yoda, who looked like a green Sonic Hedgehog bouncing off everything.
Revenge of the Sith was a slight improvement, but the dialogue was still bad and it seemed like every other scene was Anakin returning to Padme and their conversation was: "I don't want you to die."
"I'm not going to die"
"I don't want you to die"
"I'm not going to die"
"I can make it so you don't die"
In my opinion, the hyped up lightsaber duel was a big disappointment.
I don't care about the midichlorines or Anakin having no father because they are really not dwelt on or important beyond giving Qui Gon the motivation to take Anakin with him.
Also, the way that Lucas treats C3P0 is horrible. He thinks it's funny to have Anakin build him, to have Anakin steal him from the Lars, and to have him as humor during the battle in Attack. I don't think he would have done that with a human character.
The two of the main villians(other than Palpatine) of the last two movies were poorly concieved. Dooku, other than his name and the fact that he is played be Christopher Lee, is not interesting and is mainly a place filler for Vader. General Grevous is a total bust. I don't think I should be expected to watch a poorly hyped cartoon series in order to find out about a character.
Finally, the overreliance of CGI. It should be used to enhance the story not as a substitute for it. The actors don't like working with it. In, the original movies, Lucas had to come up with solutions when something he wanted could not be acheived and the films were better for it. In the prequals, it looks as if the first thought was, "That would look cool. Get ILM on that." and the story was secondary.

King Kong
Time
I think the trailer to Kong looks great. Jackson showed with the LOTR that he could have special effects, characterization, and acting that work together.

The reason why nobody remakes movies that didn't work is because no one would put up financing for that movie. King Kong has name recognition even for people who have never seen the original.

Things you DID like about Episode III
Time
I didn't like the movie as a whole, but Ian McDiarmid was good and I think Ewan McGregor was brilliant. He was no longer just trying to be Guiness, but created his own character that worked with Guiness' portrayal. His Chosen One speech to Anakin was, for me, the only time in the last two movieswhere the emotion that seemed genuine. Also, I've never seen anyone get their legs chopped off and catch on fire. That was at least interesting to watch.

War of the Worlds
Time
The script for War of the Worlds is very flawed with plot holes to drive a truck through and a serious problem with character motivation. If anyone else had directed this movie, it would have sucked big time. However, beginning with Minority Report, Speilberg has regained his place amoung the great movie directors that he started with his great movie of the seventies/Raiders of the Lost Ark and he hit War of the Worlds out of the park. His direction and the acting by Cruise and Fanning made me believe in and care for these people and these situations.

I think Firefly is one of the greatest television shows ever put on. I watched it when it was on originally and it ticked me off when they cancelled it. I've been watching the DVD's and seeing the episodes I might have missed. Hopefully, the movie will do well and there will be some interest in either resurrecting the television show on another network or the Sci Fi channel or there can be a series of movies, like Star Trek.
Joss Whedon is a great artist who continually makes intelligent, complex work(except maybe Alien Ressurection). The cast, especially Nathan Fillian, was superb and deserves more work.

Batman Begins
Time
I think Hamil is a great actor, but he has not aged well and would need to lose his gut in order to play the Joker. That's why I think he should do the voice and have someone else do the body. It also might give an interesting disconnect that could be quite creepy. I think the Joker could be done brilliantly if they make him closer to the animated series and make people forget about the great job put in by Nicholson.

I don't think that Katie Holmes did a bad acting job, but she seemed about ten years younger than Bale. I was suprised when I found out that she is only about five years younger than Bale. She just seems a lot younger. The kids that played them seemed to be the same age.
Holmes also didn't seem to be as intense as the other actors. She seemed to be in a slightly different movie than everyone else. Again, I don't think she did a bad job or is a bad actress, but I found it distracting in the movie.

Batman Begins
Time
I thought Batman Begins was a really good, almost great, movie. There were some great visuals in it. I thought Katie Holmes was miscast, but the rest of the cast handled the material brilliantly. I think Nolan/Bale should do one sequel right away and then wait twenty years and do Dark Knight Returns. If there is a sequel with the Joker, they should use Doug Jones(the mime that played Abe in Hellboy) and the voice of Mark Hamil.

Favorite Board Games
Time
A game that my brother found that is really fun is called Settlers of Cataan. He brought it with him when our family was together at Christmas. I had never heard of it before, but had it so figured out that I beat everyone by the fourth game.

In college, I played Axis and Allies with some friends. I got beaten pretty badly the first time. Then I got my own strategy and got better. We started playing one Friday afternoon and we were still playing at 4 o'clock the next morning. No one had made any progress at all, so we quit and there was never any mention of playing it again.

Another great game is Beyond Balderdash. It's fun to play with a group, especially when some people aren't taking to completely serious and write down funny answers.

Lost Finale
Time
I don't consider it wasting my life since I enjoy the show so much. If I was to watch American Idol, that would be a waste of an hour and brain power.
*No offense to anyone who likes American Idol, I just don't get the appeal. I'm sure it is wonderful for those who are musically inclined*
Waiting to watch the last show would be like reading the last page of a mystery novel. You get to know the secret, but miss how you got there. The mystery is only part of the appeal. It is one of the best written and best acted shows on televsion. The characters of Lost are so well done, except for the annoying and basically useless Shannon, that I think it would be great even without the mystery.

Lost Finale
Time
Yeah, I loved the first two years of Felicity. I think it went downhill a little in the third season and I stopped watching after the first few episodes of the fourth season. They used the 'she slept with someone while dating someone else' plot one too many times for my taste. Then everyone seemed to expect Ben to just get over it and forgive her because...well, because she's the star of the show.

Back to Lost, I think if they let some of the plotlines go, like did when Claire was kidnapped, then they will be in trouble. But, if they pick up the plot where they left off and the first episodes show what happened to Walt/Sawyer/the Hatch, then they will be on the right track. I like the idea that the audience learns things as the characters learn things. If the characters learn all the islands secrets, the show might be over or become boring. People have little patience for intelligence writing and want to be spoonfed like reality shows and mainstream movies/television. I hope some people abandon ship, but not enough to get the show cancelled. Patience will be rewarded.

Lost Finale
Time
I happen to think the season finale was great. Lost may be the best show on television(the only other contenders are Arrested Development and Deadwood). I don't care that they didn't answer many questions. What I do care about is they continued to develop interesting characters and situations. I don't mind if they drag it a little like the X-Files did. The main problem with the X-Files is the creaters forgot the point of the show and had Samantha die in a barn and dance with a bunch of other ghost children. Also, if they expect you to pay for a movie, then they have to answer some questions and it should be better, not worse, than the television episodes. The X-Files could do episodes focusing on things other than alien mythology. Lost cannot do that.
I loved the Locke-Jack discussion on faith. It made a connection to the X-Files. Locke is Mulder, the believer who will stop at nothing to find his truth. Jack is Scully, the doctor who believes science will show the way to his truth.
I think Abrams has become the king of Season Ending Cliffhanger. The best Season Ending Cliffhanger is Star Trek Next Gen's "Best of Both Worlds" with Picard being assimilated and "Mr. Worf, fire.", but Abrams consistantly comes up will great ones.
Felicity Season 1-With whom does she go on summer vacation
Alias Season 1-"Mom?"
Alias Season 2-"You've been missing for three years"
Alias this Season-Vaughn's partial revelation and then car crash
Lost this Season-kidnapping, Sawyer may be dead, Hatch opens, etc.

I am boycotting EpIII.
Time
Well, I'm still sticking with my plan. I will not pay for anything Lucas puts out until he puts out the original movies on DVD. I will see the movie when my local theater allows me to use a free pass. They already have a sign saying they will start taking passes on June 19th. I realize this will not hurt Lucas financially, nor does he care what his original fans have to think. It is a personal matter of principle. I know that I can hold out until for a month because I've turned this into a competition. If I pay to see the movie or have someone else pay for me, Lucas wins. If I sneak in or see it illegally, Lucas and Satan(assuming they are two seperate entities) win. If I don't see it in the theaters, I lose. If I wait until I can use the free pass, I win.

The Things We Hate And Love Thread .
Time
I don't mind someone speaking in another language in a private conversation. If I'm not involved in the conversation, then it doesn't matter that I don't understand them. The thing I hate is when someone starts to speak to me in foreign language and after I tell I don't speak that language, they start to speak to me in perfect English. If I go to another country, I don't assume everyone speaks English.
