A Clone Wars novel, I think. I tell you, I want to pick up the Clones Wars stuff so badly, but I'm so far behind in the EU that I don't know when I'll get to. Shatterpoint is setting on my bookshelf, saying 'Read me, Read me!' but I'm now at the last installment in the Thrawn Trilogy, and I can't put down the trilogy long enough to read anything else. Heir to the Empire was pretty slow, but by the end of Dark Force Rising, I was ready to forgive Timothy Zahn for that. Especially when Mara Jade took such a huge role.

Forum Name Origins
Time
In addition to being a Star Wars fan, I've always been a huge history enthusiast. One of my favorite topics is the Arthurian legend, and the knights and their quests (not strictly history, but who cares?). Lancelot has always probably been my favorite, but I feel more of a kinship to Galahad's portrayal, struggling to maintain purity and knightly ideals in a world where only the purest knight is permitted to set eyes upon the Holy Grail. Add the name of Galahad to the last name of my favorite Star Wars character (Luke), and you have my forum name (which I've started using as my almost exlusive online identity).

Great topic, Luke!

Argh, Mackey, I know what you mean...why can't the majority of people just be happy with what we have right now? My iPod is already old, and I just bought it in February, and I really feel like the Third Generation iPods (like mine) are a lot easier to use than what the bloody Fourth Generation ones look like they would be. Buggerers.

You might not believe Lucas said this...
Time
I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels like I do, Luke...there's no way I would want to leave the boards, because I've become attached to posting here in a largely unstifled atmosphere, but I can't shake the ever looming notion that the cause of this site is becoming more lost by the day. I honestly feel like our whole crusade is for film preservation, and yet I have yet to hear of any film preservationists coming out and protesting alongside us. I don't despise these new cuts necessarily, because they are still Star Wars, but I'm not going to blindly ignore the raping of classic cinema. Lucas can 'rape my childhood' all he wants, but tampering with the memory of artistic milestones is unforgiveable. I have my original bootlegs, and I love them, but I'm contemplating buying the new versions, because of the enchanced sound and picture quality, the documentary, and the fact that, as a paying customer, I might have more sway when I voice my displeasure. But with Lucasfilm's poor treatment of customers and fans, who knows if that sway will mean anything?

So, while I may be despairing, like Luke, I'm definitely not leaving the boards. Besides, I still need to rack up over a thousand posts.

The 1997 SE's - My take
Time
So would I. The scenes help explain why this pilot named Biggs suddenly shows up and why Luke is obviously close to him. They actually slightly improved the film, unlike most of the changes.

The Han/Jabba scene does nothing at all. If it wasn't for the fact that the dialogue only marginally expanded upon the Han/Greedo scene that took place just minutes before, I wouldn't mind it as much.

How does George Lucas rationalize making changes to his movies while speaking out against alterations of other pieces of film heritage?

I can give you an answer right now...

What he was specifically speaking about was the colorization of the Three Stooges. They were shot in black and white, always meant to be seen in black and white, and the changes that are being done are not being done by the original director.

With Star Wars, he had always considered the originals rough cuts and always wanted to make them bigger, but had neither the time, technology nor money. Plus, they are his creations.

A better question would be asking why Lucas is ignoring a large amount of fans by not putting out the originals, or something of that nature.

I really would not bother submitting any. The last question they have answered is from March, and if they were to answer a question now, it would probably not be something of this nature.

I know they wouldn't answer it, but I've just considered submitting a question anyway. I also noticed that it had been since March when they answered the last question. Kind of strange, since that was around the same time it was announced that only the SEs (or a hybrid thereof) were to released on DVD...coincidence?

I just wish they'd tell us if they're going after the movies or not, if you understand what I'm getting at. I know they can't do anything without going through Lucas and Fox, but I'd like to be able to commend them for trying all the same.

I can't wait to see this...it'll be great to have a neutral film out there, one that exposes both sides as being completely stupid. Despite everyone criticising Stone and Parker, they really provide some of the best commentary on world and social affairs that can be found today (South Park is much deeper than the critics will acknowledge).

damn... and i sat up all night making molotov cocktails...

That's great, Luke! You know, you could use them to treat the disease (Lucas), rather than the symptoms (the DVDs)...

Wolfman Back In?

How many times have we heard the Star Wars racism bit? Last year, I caught a piece about discrimination about albinos, then there's the inevitable 'Jar-Jar is a terrible African-American stereotype' controversy. I don't hear about the Rodians too often, but they seem so stereotypical to me I laugh whenever they talk in KOTOR. But seriously, if Star Wars were racist, there would be no Mace Windu.

I'm really starting to despair of ever seeing these films in their classic glory again...the bootlegs are very well-done, but are very limited, out of sheer necessity. No one with any sway whatsoever has taken up our cause, and we seem to be a small fragment of the Star Wars community that is considered completely crazy. Lucas is a crazy hypocrite, and because of that, I'm starting to fear our cause is lost, especially since Criterion doesn't seem to be interested. Sorry, but I had to voice my despair.

Doing the Zahn books, someone had mentioned doing them in Final Fantasy style CG if we could never get live action, then there was those rumored ep. 7 pics/3DO game. We all concluded that is the source of our desired movie, but a live action of it now seems impossible.

Ooops...I read this thread for awhile, but quite reading it, so I guess the Zahn stuff came up after I quit reading the thread, and then I just posted on it because Chaltab mentioned the Zahn books, since I'm in the middle of them right now.

I agree, Chaltab. Books can go places movies never can, so I'm entirely satisfied referring to the Thrawn Trilogy as Episodes 7,8, and 9. And if that's the case, I'm reading on Episode 8 right now.
